Still beating the culture show at the moment though :) and that's the BBC :worship:
I don't think the Culture Show slot was the greatest ad for us, most people I know who saw it thought we looked like a bunch of geeks (which admittedly, we probably are ;) ) rather than being intrigued and wanting to join in... Possibly due to the focus on the ARG aspect and the mechanics of the game rather than exploring the storyline, which was deliberately emphasised as being fake all the way through by the presenter. Probably 'cos it was part of a larger slot featuring other types of pretty unrelated internet interactive stuff and not just about Perplexcity.
Just a thought, I dunno what the PC gamer thing ws like but I got in through intriguing ads in the first firebox catalogue rather than knowing what i was getting into before i started.
rach =)

PC gamer was definitely storyline focussed, but also aimed at a very different audience. It would be interesting to see the demography of the culture show, but I'm sure it changed drastically when they showed the ARG slot!
I followed the first firebox ad like you spugmeistress...think the firebox shoppers are most similar to ARGers...if you're daft enough to spend money on chocolate coated ants and stuffed bacteria, then you're daft enough to turn up in greenwich at the merest whiff of a link to an event! *MikeyJ waves to 'Fluffy'*
Now that the weather's getting better it would be good to have a trip now I mention it...do you think Mind Candy could organise something somewhere a bit nice for us...Cornwall would do. Perhaps they could supply transport? Sente's Charabanc!
[Edited for spelling of Charabanc...weird one that!]

I actually became interested after seeing the Culture Show. I remember thinking "What a lousy piece of soundbite reporting, but the game sounds way cool". Guess that makes me a geek as well, a snobbish geek snubbing a snobbish show.

There's been another influx (or at least a load of nick's I'm not familiar with) so I'm wondering whether to resurrect this and ask a nice mod to add a button for "I just bought these cards and lo! I am here".
Another part of me thinks F*** it, you floggeth the glue factory raw materials.
What do you think?

first got into it myself with the old firebox ad
of course it was only a mirrored message but 5mins searching round and i was hooked!
i think the main reason your seeing so many of us newbies is the card release, most are probably not even new to the site just hadn't the need to post, but now people are getting the feeling that we're under starters orders.
IT'S TIME TO GET INVOLVED!!

I was feeling despressed after ilovebees ended and poked around on unforum for a week. When I saw perplexcity it looked really cool, but hadn't quite started yet. So I signed up for it and then forgot about it. I only remembered it with Sente's email 2 weeks ago.

Firebox catalog advert - but the perplexcity.com site at the time was pretty dull. I entered my email address adn nothing happened. Didn't know about ARGs etc so didn't find the hidden links on the page and so forgot all about it.
Sometime later I found a postcard (the "Hello World" one) in Starbucks and then got hooked. Its way too easy to get addicted to things in Starbucks...

I first found out about it though an article in the [British Newspaper] the Guardian, back in spring.
I starting following Perplex City quite closely but got bored with the slow pace. I noticed another ARG through the forums - The Art of the Heist, got seriously hooked and played it to the end to the exclusion of PPC. When I came back to PPC I hadn't missed much.

I found Perplex City in Computeractive! magazine - they ran half-page section on it.

i found out about it in the guide, and now my friend thinks im sad and so does my dad, plus the fact i have an unhealthy addiction to checking forums:( on the plus side it didnt start in starbucks and it's a great game and the people are really nice
PS where can one get postcards from, i want to leave some around places like seej, failing that i'll have to write www.perplexcity.com on napkins in starbucks/coffee republic/cafe nero/why are there so many pointless coffee bars?
