then we get bogged down in all sorts of spec when "exchange" is kind of screaming out...

and then Dinah comes and we go "erm..." and she legs it.

well of course exchange is blaring as the clue, just want to make sure that we're on the right track with the solve of those 6 words... there's no harm in covering all the bases just in case. But it seems right now that the 'crossword clue' answer is generally accepted. Even though to me it just seems a little redundant, since the first one gives the clear anagram answer of 'exchange', and the third one seems to be obvious 'exchange' as well (IMO could be a clue itself, or simply intended to support the answer to the first clue, ie as part of the 6 word single crossword clue)

So... just covering the bases...

(and it just bugs me - what kind of crossword gives the answer in anagram form? it really just feels like the 3rd clue is the crossword clue itself... *shrug*)

was it just me or is there a guy there right now setting up a big video camera at the bottom of the screen? thought it was a news guy at first cuz people were standing in front of him... hm

Hi everyone, I've been lurking since Sente's e-mail went out. While I think the anagram of "exchange" is probably the answer, I quickly googled "stock market executive hanged" and came up with the following:

Quote:
The former president of Seibu Railway hanged himself last month.
According to the AP and AFP newswires, Terumasa Koyanagi, 64, a former president of Seibu Railway, claimed he had been asked to lie about Seibu's finances by an executive of Kokudo, its biggest shareholder.

"Terumasa" and "Koyanagi" are both 8 letters, so I figured it was worth a mention at least.

good luck with Dinah!

Cryptic crossword clues do hide their answers as anagrams sometimes, or as part of two words, there are all sorts of devious ways to write cryptic clues - tis what makes them cryptic, you have to think a bit lateral as well as literal.

do all motorcycle riders have to wear bright yellow vests in London?

I have seen a motercycle rider in a bright yellow vest (perhaps the same one) go through the image four times now.

EDIT: having now seen many other motrcyclists now wearing yellow, I assume not. Did anyone get the licence palte of the scooter? Wink

aye, well I guess I made the mistake of thinking typical crossword puzzle Razz
it still just irks me that in a single crossword they'd put a clue and the answer as an anagram together in the same clue... seems redundant IMO, but I digress. If we already have the answer then that's what matters anyway Smile

10 minutes left

New here, but I have a thought.

This is slightly old ground, but bear with me. If these are crossword clues, then the ( 8 ) probably refers to the number of letters.

Maybe the answer is DOW JONES? Just throwing it out there. Not sure how it fits in with the context of what we know, but it is a stock market and it is 8 letters...

Don't have any ideas about the other two though.

speaking as a slave to the Telegraph crossword, I'm totally convinced the answer's exchange.

maybe this is like the start of a secret faction, a covert team of people (though we know who they are) on the inside, each given missions they can't share with us Razz heh
(and yeah, we're all in agreement the answer's exchange Wink)

But in crossword terms DOW JONES is 3 and 5 letters, and it'd be ( 3, 5 ) in the brackets not 8...
