The lower-quality pics on the Wiki look like they have the watermark, but the high-contrast scan doesn't. I think that probably also has the watermark, and it just doesn't show in the image. Raising the contrast would make the grey look white.

I noticed the watermark too, I think that is new.

The watermark isn't new, it was on the original postcards too, not the high res ones though.

After reading the combination of the LA Times article and the blue piece of paper (viewed mine 10 minutes ago - not sure if any others left but one copy of Alice had Celebrex post-its all over the pages - kinda odd) I have two comments -
1. I have to withdraw my previous belief that the other newspaper ads and the LA Times ad were from two separate writings - I can clearly see now that this can also be from a press release type document
and
2. This seems like a confined release, meant only for current players. Unlike the newspaper ads, which could be seen by anyone picking up a paper, you could only find this if you saw the video, which came from www.perplexcity.com. This thing leads you right back to that website, so it's circular. Doesn't allow for new people to come into the game unless they just so happen to look in that book. Small chance and then only a few in number. So this looks like something directly targeted at those already involved.

Ok, serendipity
I looked at the Abbey Road webcam 2 days ago or so, just after getting involved wit dis.
I spoke with my folks a week prior about a book called the cube, and even did an IMDB on a cool movie called teh cube, and then wrote a piece about a dream I had many years ago involvong various cube things.
I wrote the onellivewire (Kristen) a PM yesterday asking for a postcard so I could scan it at my company to see if a 600 x 600 TIFF would be a better way to see the names.
I am going to check my mail, and if there is anything there that is even remotely cube-shaped I am going to deficate masonry.

The religious groups around the town hold the cube as an OBJECT OF REVERENCE. .
The last serious ATTEMPT AT THEFT was blah de blah etc...
Must I spell it out?
EDIT: Nuduo, don't even think about making jokes
EDIT II: Damnit, reverence.

doh! And I was at the Bryant Park Hotel all afternoon too!.
So why NOW! Other things we can expect. One or more of the PM's is in NYC as we speak (or at least was this morning) I would bet more to happen in NYC this weekend. Implies urgency to me... as if this particular post card needed to be retrieved today. Why?
What can we learn from this postcard? Is there anything else on the attached paper?

Ok, then how about this? Six and a half years ago, before my daughter was born, I found a cool version of Alice's Adventure's under ground. Much like the version here . It sat on my daughter's bookshelf unopened each day until yesterday. My daughter then pulled it off the bookshelf and asked me about it. So yesterday, I read her the first chapter, where Alice muses on how much she'll be missed by her cat, Dinah . I tell you, when I saw the revised video... I got chills!
What I can't figure out, is 1) how Adrian knew I had a copy of that, and 2) how he contacted my daughter, to ask her to bring the book to my attention. This is truly the wildest ARG ever!

My read on the situation was that they were having trouble lining up a paper to place the ad in. So, since they had someone in NY with a stack of postcards, they whipped this up instead. I'd like to take this opportunity to plug Racine, Wisconsin as a future target for this sort of activity... OK then, I'll settle for Milwaukee... Chicago? Nuts.

Possibly RI, but there are four daily papers in NY City and two free daily tabloids.
-NY Times (especially the sunday times as anyone who has gone to a Starbuck's nation wide can attest to has a gigantic classifieds section, and [side] they could have just said, "For RENT: The Receda Cube, 5'x5', only $3200/month." That would have signed up a good 2000 players who went to the website for more info )
-NY Post
-Daily News
-NY Sun (already posted an ad there)
-AM New York
-Metro New York
Hoenstly they could have easily gotten another classified ad in if they wanted). Besides, there is always the need to ensure that your clues are found, or at least viewed, and while Alice in Wonderland isn't exaclty flying off the shelves at the NYPL, it isn't exactly obscure either. My bet is whoever planted the cards then called the PM's to let them know it was ok to post the video. You also can't post the video and risk someone seeing it and being in the neighborhood to watch you plant it.
By the way, this is sort of the first immediate action we've had.... does this move us into the "now playing" category?

i don't believe anything at this point is spur of the moment... there has been way too much thought, and probably money, invested in this so far to leave something to chance like that... alice was probably always in the cards... the reason it looked last minute is because they put the update out on the day it went active... a way to hit the game with a shot of lightning, if you will

A little spec, but what if this was merely a small test to see how quickly we can respond to being at a certain place at a certain time? I mean, maybe they'll need to know this in case they're doing something like this again, but setting a time limit (kind of like that one field training exercise in ILB) and this is their way of figuring out said tiem limit?
