[xbox] Controller: Duke v. S? Taking an informal survey:
1. Who uses the old-school large controller and who uses the newer S controller?
2. Is there a difference in accuracy?

I don't have hands you insensitive clod!
seriously, i think most people use the S because that's what now ships with the console, when did they make that switch? It was very early on in the Xbox's life.
Krystyn's made the switch recently, she'll be very knowledgable.

Duke all the way, though I guess I'm capable with either one. Haven't tried the S in a while though.

I use the S controller now. I like both and the Duke fits my hands a little better but I enjoy the fun translucent green color of the S type more than the solid black of the Duke. Form over function, I guess.

I have always preferred the S-controller. The Duke was hard for me to use, but I have small hands.

I loathe the Duke entirely. The near verticle layout of the buttons is entirely non-sensical, and the S-Controller affords me much better control. Accuracy probably isn't much of an issue, it's getting around and general button-reachage that I just can't handle on the Duke.

I like the Duke and all, but it's sticks loosen faster and the B/W buttons have sucky placement.
Only reason I use an S. That and my S is blue.

Jinx said it best. Reaching all the buttons on the input terminal just plain sucks. That's why it's all about the S.

I use the "S" simply because it was the one shipped... and the only ones readily available in stores. Never tried the Duke, so I can't make a fair comparison.
-- Steve's fingers are kinda stubby, though, so the Duke may not suit him anyway.

I use Pelican wireless for campaign and non-live games, it has duplicate B&W buttons on the top as finger triggers. The sticks feel a little nicer, but the tops are smooth, I like the raised bumps on the MS controller.
The big problem though is that the expansion ports are on the reciever, so my head would be directly connected to the console for live chat, that doesn't give you alot of room to move, so i use the S for Live.

I use the Duke as it was the controller that came with my first two xboxes. I have bigger hands so it is a better fit. I have used the "S" controller on many fighting games though as the D-pad is much better on the "S" than on the Duke.

S all the way baby.
I can't stand the button placement on the Duke. Of course, the only controller I've really used is the S, so it's not like I've given the Duke much of a chance.
Also, after coming off the PS/PS2, the size of the Duke becomes a real issue.

I miss the black and white button placement on the Duke, but I am finally sort of kind of getting used to it on the s.
Honestly, I think my old Duke was seriously just ... old. The sticks were a lot looser than they should have been, and so getting a nice new s controller made all the difference for me and sniping. So much so that I may up my look sensitivity, so that I can now work on dancing better in gun/melee fights, and be a bit quicker on the draw with the sniping.
The s's sticks just have that nice, new car smell to them, in terms of resistance and such. I seriously feel like a much better player now - kind of frustrating, though, considering the kidding I used to get about being a sucky player. Even at my suckiest, I wasn't that bad, and add in the 'handicap' of the Duke ... well. Shoot.
I think I'd been playing with that Duke since 2001 - lots and lots of Halo I, a few runs through Abe's Oddysee, and a good many hours of KotoR, blah blah blah. I have a few off-brand controllers, but I hardly ever use them.
I do admit to sometimes missing the diamond config of AB/XY, but only because there have been at least 3 specific instances where I've dropped in the top of the base on Coagulation, run for the flag, and then dropped to the basement, hands empty but for my pistol/SMG combo. Durrrrrr, grrrrr!

I also got an old skool love for the Duke. (For some reason, although I know y'all know what I'm talking about, I feel like I must state that I'm not waxing romantic about John Wayne.) Mind you, I've got larger hands, and I think it works (although even I admit that it's difficult to reach the B/W buttons during gameplay.) But I feel like I'm playing a knock-off Playstation controller when I'm playing on the S. (However, while I'm an Xbox fan above all, I think that Sony got the props for best controller layout. Everything is where you want it with that thing.) So yeah. Ramble Ramble Ramble... why can't I put together a coherent post lately? (Did I mention I have a child? and no sleep?)
