[SPEC] pp7.jpg image on the second page 'indexB.html'

I might be overthinking things....but, could the image hold a stegged message....? I have tried, but realised that stegged files made by one application may not open on others...
for example,
camouflage stegged files don't open on Jpeg hide and seek, and vice versa...

and theres also the question of getting the right password.

the password for the image could actually be the clues in the image...
8179591001999
8- being the number of clearly visible buildings in the top left image
1- from "One Taversen Square"
7- being the number of cubes visible in the logo
959- from the banknote
100- Sente ~ cente ~ one hundred
1999- I and M from the bottom of the letter, IM in roman numerals being 1999

I also came up with another idea, which I will explain, (it hasn't worked successfully as of yet, but I will try other methods)...

what if it was possible to steg separate images, then make a larger image which holds all the stegged pictures...
one could get a large image, cut it down to little irregular sized squares and rectangles and save them as separate files. Steg parts of the message into each one, and then join them up into the large image again.

Now, this would be more secure than encoding into a pic and leaving it just like that, because statistical analisys can reveal that a message is hidden, then you would use one of the programs available, and given enough time could crack the password and unlock the file.

With this method however, the person trying to access the hidden file would have to know exactly how you cut up the image pixel for pixel, to be able to try and have a crack at each pic, which i would think would take a considerable amount of time to do.

Unfortunately, I have tried many methods, and none have worked, but I have not given up...
the main problem is that once you recompose your original image and save it, the photo program reapplies the algorithm for that particular filetype, and removes the data of the file you added in...even for .bmp files which i wouldn't have thought so...since they store the colour and hue and brightness of each pixel...

so far i have only tried it on .jpegs and .bmps, gifs are no good, and have yet to try it on .png files and any other ones, once i get my hand on picture file converters...

regards to seperate stegged photos, i would be possible in a uncompressed file format...but as its a jpeg the global recompression of the image would of killed any stegging when they was combined in a single image.

it doesn't work with bitmaps though, even though they are not compresses.

I was also thinking that one could make the compiled stegged image in a bitmap/uncompressed file, and then compress it into a jpeg. then to get the stegged pic back, all you would have to do is decompress it. however, it hasn't worked for me because during the process of the conversion/compression the redundant stegged data part gets destroyed, even though it holds colour/hue/saturation etc info...

I can help you out a little, the pp7.jpg file is not stegged with camouflage. Camouflage (and many of its other low security brothers) simply appends data to the end of the JPEG file. A normal JPEG file ends in the bytes 0xFFD9, one with camouflage data in it will not.

i tested it with stegdetect, and says it's negative. the options i used were:

Quote:
stegdetect -n -t jopi -s 3 pp7.jpg > steg.txt

output:
Quote:
pp7.jpg : negative

stegdetect doesn't know camouflage, but if you checked it, then we can almost be sure that it's not stegged.

i might be late with this, but
http://www.projectsyzygy.com/images/psyzygynomore2.jpg appears to be stegged.
i used the same method as above.

i'm going to see if i can break it.

any luck...?

kind of unrelated...but, is there any way to make command prompt read sigular bytes from a text file, do some processing and then append it to another text file...?

I ran stegbreak with the american-english wordlist and the standard rules list. It returned no embeds.

There might be something there, but it's not in my wordlist.

since it is pregame stuff, i suspect that the dictionary attacks won't work, because the password will probably be a number...like someone said, maybe the number on the postcard, or the numebers from the luggage tag on the projectsyzygy site.

can you make your own dictionary in stegbreak, becuase then you can input all the numbers we have found so far and get the program to try and get the hidden message from the pic.

However, i suspect that stegdetect could have picked up a false positive, because you can see that in two instances in the image, there are comparatively large areas where there is a sharp contrast in colour (the white checker thing that covers the airport photo and the bottom right of the image)....

hopefully, that is not the case...and i don't think that the hidden message will be www.perlpexcity.com since it points to a link from the website....there would be no point of encoding that.
