What if the "Stat server downtime".... [SPEC]

served a secondary, more sinister purpose?

Suppose Bungie was in the process of testing new maps. Suppose they needed to test them over Xbox Live, but their own excellent stat tracking system would give the secret away?

Suppose then that Bungie decided to shut down the stats viewer for 3-4 days while they switched servers. What a perfect time to test the new maps without being caught!

After testing is done, just purge all of those game fully! Then re-initiate the system.

This is all speculation. I have tried researching gamertags of various people that might be testing and have run into some odd things, but nothing concrete.

I have tested some gamertags of Bungie employees we all know from the Humpday Challenges as well as names like

buntestX

and

bunliveX

where X is the number of the test name. Most of the names haven't played games since before the downtime, but others have. Some of the names had played recently yet would not give me a list of games played. ^_-

If I happen to have been right, allow me to borrow a line from our favorite Monitor:
"Mm hmm, I am a genius." DeathDefi is one too. :p

Your thoughts?

Here's a possible clue:

Frankie, as of late, has typically played every day.

He has rarely skipped a day, let alone FOUR in a row.

Which four, you ask?

February 5th through the 8th.

Perhaps he did play then, but the games were purged?

[/end ONI Section 0 investigation]

Hmm...
If I remember from the LE DVD, the names that were shown in the games were "bunmp" follwed by numbers. I don't know if those were just system link profiles for testing stuff, or if they're actual XBL gamertags. Could be worth a try. And yes, I'm too lazy to do it myself. Razz

Nice find. I think you may be on to something here. I've heard similar theories on other forums, but you're the first to actually provide possible evidence. Let's all take a moment to pray that fugitivesoldier is right Smile

(of course with the tilde over the n which I can't figure out how to replicate here)

Most. Indegestion. Ever.

But I digress... off topic you say? Well, um, how about that Halo 2? Sure is... um... green?

Seconded. I eat Taco Bell food at least once a week. On a completely unrelated note, I think I need new pants. The old ones are too tight.

Stormincow was the only to show games on Feb 5 and Feb 8.

That still skips the 6th and 7th, which would be at least 36 hours of downtime.

I'm glad some other gamertags had the "hole" I was looking for. Nice work!

Could they be up to the same tricks again? Are they testing out Multiplayer maps again? We should watch those bungie employee's stats again and find out.

On Monday March 14th at 10:00 AM Pacific time, bungie.net will be offline for database maintenance. This downtime could last several hours. When the system comes back, you'll find nothing has changed.
Yeah, that's right, nothing. Well, almost nothing. A few performance improvements are in there. The only change for you guys will be in your Halo 2 stats. Previously, if you played a Halo 2 game, and the stats upload to our servers got corrupted somehow, the game never showed up. Now, we'll show you the game, just not any of the stats (like who won). Not much, but it should help explain why some games were never showing up on bungie.net.
