given the latest info, i want to work on some history spec...
my calc.s put the yearZERO even between 1736-1738 (depending on the actual existence of a Zero...) so i checked wikipedia to find out what happend in our world at that time... well, not a lot really, but a cpl interesting deaths and little events that r vaguely related to concepts that have already been brought up (to be honest, i suspect these links r just because of the general time period, i doubt we'll be able to find a specific event... but there's some interesting conspiracy theory fodder at best)
Deaths:
1737 Caroline of Ansbach (queen consort of george 2 of england; i only include her because of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, in which she was an important character tied to the emergence of natural philosophy - my 'Academy'/Alchemy link)
1737 the last direct male heir of the Medici family (because the medici's are conspiracy fodder)
1736 Stephen Gray - first person to systematically experiment with electrical conduction (a follow-on from static elec. experiments, at least in our world)
Events:
1738 wesleys founded the methodists (more conspiracy fodder)
1738 world's first automaton presented to french academy of sciences
1736 Newton's 'Method of Fluxions' published (the calculus; posthumous)

[SPEC] [INFO] Academy Logo, Names, Etc This may be elsewhere, but I thought it should be in the puzzles section also.
Things to Discuss:
Differences between the new version of the logo (in the Sentinel) and the old version found on Sente's letter. Specifically...
• The arrangement of the names (formerly alphabetical, currently not)
• The latin phrase at the top and its changes.
I personally think that the names are a puzzle, not so sure about the latin though.

What's in a name? The list of the names around the logo is now in the current order:
Noi
Adamek
Kermeen
Delaney
Zeller
Garrick
Taversen
I wonder if this new logo, since it was posted with the new article, relates to the article in some way. Perhaps pointing to the location of the meet (if it is, indeed a physical location).
Somethings I've found so far:
Noi is a popular Italian Restaurant in London. Google it for an address. (its also an icelandic movie)
Adamek is the last name of an icelandic film director (parts of iceland do share the same time zone as london...maybe a connection.) I think another thing to remember is that the article didn't say that the meeting would be in London.
As usual, feel free to completely dismiss or play off these. There IS something here though.

hmm... none of the other words seem to translate into anything in any language that I can tell (basically nothing babelfish can translate)
I also don't think its an anagram....only one vowel, other letters are weird (Z?)

Bah!
They switched it back the old one and posted a correction.
I wonder still if there is something in the names. They're back in alphabetical order now is all.

Since they changed the logo back to the original, the issue of possible puzzle-ness of the changes is no longer relevant. Imo, the logo itself does not qualify as a puzzle.
The Puzzles forum is reserved for things that need to be solved - not for things that can be speculated about. A lot of people play for puzzles, and they want to be able to easily find current unsolved things (and jump in one them) or see what puzzles there have been in the game, and how they were solved. Therefore, I'm moving this to General.
EDIT: Bah, there is already a thread about the names on the logo, etc. Merging now

You want a puzzle to absorb and delight while we wait for Friday?
I'll post it here cos it is dead end anyway, it's a real laugh IMHO.

Academy Crest I don't know Latin, so I asked someone who graduated at the top of her class. YMMV
Academy Crest "original"
"quaerere sapientiae initium" ~ "to search for/seek to know/obtain/ the origin/beginning of wisdom"
Adamek Carrick Delaney Kermeen Noi Taversen Zeller ~ Seven names
Academy Crest "Sentinel 'goof-up'"
"quaesitum quaerere sapientiae initium est" ~ "to search for/seek to know/obtain/ the origin/beginning of wisdom ought to be/must be the investigation (question? quest?)"
Noi Adamek Kermeen Delaney Zeller Carrick Taversen ~ Seven names
We also have seven first names from the Abbey Road puzzle. The key to that encrypted text was (note: spaces added for clarity):
aiko anna caine garnet kurt tippy von
This second logo is important to me because it shows a ranking system other than alphabetical ascending. We've got over 700 years of Taversen history. If Aeitiant Taversen was the original MOA, why is her name not the first listed? If the context is a snapshot of original Academy founding, when Naskent Taversen was a helpful benefactor, perhaps the other names are MOAs or influential 'cubesters'.

Having just looked at this list, is it possible that there is some connection between von in this list and the von referred to in Scarletts entry on the 19th April?
Cheers

I know you're a mod and all, but in a game like this, who is to say what is and is not a puzzle? Plus, In MY Opinion (and others apparently, since people are thinking on it) this IS a puzzle.
I don't care that you moved it, but you don't have to sound so self-rightous about it.
[edit] oh and you also moved it into an [INFO] section...MUCH better than a puzzle one...

fFair enough. Tho i'm with yanka here. the sentinel site often goes thru minor adjustments as errors become noticed. I dont think this is so much a puzzle at all, but rather a quick glimpse of an earlier version of the seal. I'd be happy to discuss what the differences in the earlier and older versions mean. cos hey, there's some differences and they must be fFor some reason, yes? But i wouldnt call it a puzzle. just a look at stuff we wouldnt otherwise see.
so about those differences - i thought to myself 'oh, the current seal has them alphabetized, and the old one had them in order chronologically. maybe reverse chronology? maybe no order at all.
not a puzzle, but as seej would say, Both a gift and a trap.
