AIY are the only other (mostly) vowels though... amongst LMGJSH

LMGJSHAIY ? I don't think there's an anagram there...

SCARLET is definitely a long word to be just a coincidence though... hm Confused

No, unless you count weird three letter word combinations like "JAG HIM SLY" I can't find an anagram in the remaining first initials.

This sounds very far-fetched to me but what the heck : Googling for YSH I found www.yoursimplehost.co.uk :
- UK-based hosting provider
- that does not seem to accept any new customers, has an utterly broken website, closed forums...
Could it be a cover ? Again I don't really believe this is connected but still yoursimplehost.co.uk a bit strange by itself (what real-world hosting provider would allow its website to be so broken ?).

As far as the article names are concerned, there IS one that differs from the rest, and that's cube_stolen_i.html, the article that had been printed piece by piece in the newspapers these last few weeks. That page only has 13 characters. However, if you bring it up to 15, it ends with an underscore and that's awkward, so that may be why it's slightly shorter.

If there IS a puzzle here, it may just be that we're meant to find other articles on the site using the same pattern. Assuming it's a cryptography puzzle seems like a stretch to me. It may be, but seems a little less natural and...organic, I guess, as a puzzle.

This was a good find, and I'm not questioning the authenticity of you or other "beginners" but I was wondering...

[SPEC] If the PMs are reading these forums and they notice the collective "we" getting bogged down or headed in the wrong direction, isn't it conceivable that they could "steer us" back on track by claiming to be a beginner to the forum and posting some subtle clue that helps us all? [/SPEC]

Not to right place to post this, and also at the top of the site it says 'Under Construction'.. maybe that's why it's not ready

They could, but I believe it's frowned upon in general. Do you really want to worry about whether the people you're playing with are actual players or plants?

Then again, if you assume every person may be a plant, that means you'll take everybody's opinion seriously.

Either way, there are more creative way that a PM can and have given the players a helping hand.

Easily doable, but I think that an in-game way would be more fun. Kinda like Dana's Blog for ILB was to steer us in the right way. Really had no more purpose than that. "Hey? What are these coords to?" "Go to the payphones! They're -calling out- to you!"

I have a feeling that a new article, or the entire newspaper, may provide some sort of medium like this. But, I think the "newbie" idea could still be done.

EDIT: Apparently I did deserve a trout.

So I'll change the post to say that every headline on the right side of the page follows the 15 character rule and leads to a page that contains only the headline.

Last I checked, it's against the unforum rules for the PM's to post on here like that. Then again, you never know...

I'm a bit perplexed (no pun intended) that I don't seem to be able to get to see the adverts, or masthead image (I assume there is one from what people have said) on the Sentinel website in either IE or Firefox... any clues as to why? Slightly scared I might be missing something in the long run because of this...

If you have a firewall installed such as Norton Personal Firewall, which comes with an ad blocker, it could be the problem. I was in that situation this morning, and unfortunately, the only solution i came with was to disable the ad blocker for the duration of visits to any sites related to perplexcity, and then switch it back on, as there doesn't seem to be a way to customise the adblocker to allow certain sites to display them.

The ad text is controlled by javascript and there is no <noscript> tags on the pages. If you've got javascript disabled, then you won't see the images.

Apologies if I violated some forum rule. It didn't seem OT to me since we were discussing the Sentinel's masthead initials, of which YSH are the last three letters (after SCARLET).
You're probably right about the website though, but as I said it was just wild speculation on my part. Is that not encouraged here ?

I must say I agree with the others on that SPEC; of course my word does not hold much weight in this particular case Smile

Let me choose to feel flattered to be imagined as a plant, though Rolling Eyes

As an FYI, the PM's will NOT post here under the guise of a newbie. It is against this sites rules, and the PM's are well aware of that fact I assume. I prefer to think they'd do something more storyline based to prod us along anyways.

Also, as a favor (and to reduce clutter), if you have something to add to a previous post that nobody has responded to yet (aka youre last in thread), just edit the earlier one rather than creating a new one. Its hard enough slogging through 18 pages of a topic as it is (and yes I realize you're new, so no worries and don't take it as a RAWR thing).
