Sente

Maybe Sente has given us access to only this copy of the sentinal because he is involved in the main head line and he wants us to see the urgency of the situation, which would explain why its so restricted! Maybe all the information he intends us to have is right in front of our eyes!!

How do cookies work? If the key is based on a cookie, is it possible to try and create a cookie to fool the site into recognising us? I don't know much about them so sorry if this is totally out of the window.

Well a couple of things that our histories have in common is that they also had a guy called Newton who had an incident with an apple, and the Avogadro guy...lol

you can't create a cookie from a client (ie. your browser). cookies can only be created at the server end and then sent to the client. attempts to create unknown cookies will just fail to be recognised by the server

consider that a crash course Wink

quick analysis of the site:

1) the first thing i noticed and is really strange, is the copyright notice on the bottom. it says "2005", and not something "AC". typo? intentional?

2) in "focus", the only article we can read, is the last one - the one's pieces we got in newspapers

3) subscription, seems like it's not ready yet. let's take a look at how we can authenticate on websites:
  • web-based logins: that'd need a form, but we don't have. that page [the subscription error] is STATIC. no php, only plain HTML.
  • cookies: that works fine, but we'd still need a page to carve a cookie for us. and we haven't found it yet.
  • htauth - see header 401 - well, that'd pop up swhere.

so what i want to point out, is that we're not meant to log in yet, we can't have subscriptions, etc. that is NOT READY yet. and it really seems like that it's only used as a 404 document.

this much so far Wink

hmm, did anyone read kelseys post Rolling Eyes

hehe, he says- its static.

"but we'd still need a page to carve a cookie for us. and we haven't found it yet. "

guess the rest of us cookie noobs can wait for that ^^ to happen. Very Happy

yeah, it is possible to carve cookies. there are several phpbb exploits like that. but that'd be h4x0r1ng their auth system. and that's a no-no. or well, we might have to do that later on.
but we don't know what to put in it. usually a cookie consists of things like expiration time, a string you put in it, setting website. usually that string would contain something like username+password's hash, encrypted with a two-way encryption [like ... base64]. authentication with cookies works like you check the contents of the cookie, decode it, and then authenticate using the given username and password therein.
so - we'd need to know the authentication method [what they keep in the cookies], a username, and a password.

Well I'm with Salkunh on this - probably the 24 no digit from the postcard or 2210 or something we haven't worked out how to use yet. Just need a method of delivery or ... patience!?! Smile

Does it feel weird to anyone else that their entire universe seems limited to just one city? We really only heard of Perplex City from Sente's one letter, and then that press release, so I just assumed that there was no need/reason to mention other locations yet. However, now, there is a whole newspaper, and it doesn't mention any other cities, as far as I can tell. No other countries, either. It's like their whole world consists of just Perplex City Confused
