And it is named "frontpage" instead of logo, or banner or something similar to what a site creator usually names an image of this type.

PCAG - just to clarify, I read this as Perplex City Annual Games. Kinda like an olympic type thing, but more often and with mindgames instead of physical sports.

In that article it refers to them as the Perplex City Academy Games. It's in the last paragraph.

Five million, thats about the population of Nyc isn't it? I keep picturing something along the lines of Cloud City, like was stated a few pages back except more of a space station. Somewhere out in space there's a big ship floating around with a highly advanced group of humans on board consisting of puzzle lover's and the likes...I dunno, it just seems to fit Laughing

i get more of a archeologists lab feel. an isolated group of intellectuals in the midst of a large city, rarely leaving the walls of the academy, playing pranks on each other and tourists, when they DO go out, talking in jargon. especially with the religion, those who study the cube directly probably get a lot of reverence and respect from the masses, which im sure some of them prey on.

also, the cube is said to be acquired maybe for a collection, and not usable, thus its technology is now common place. and the cube itself probably has nothing to do with the ability to reach earth, as that ability is called into doubt. also, the article on sente mentions

Will children still build with blocks in the future? Will the Cubists survive into another generation?

i get the feeling by blocks, he isnt talking about cubes of wood and plastic. theres something REALLY important in the difference that the Cube has created in our cultures, and part of what the academy team was doing was researching that. and one of those researching that was the one killed. i think theres a serious spot where both we and the perplex city people are making a MASSIVE assumption about the life of the other group that causing a huge blank spot.

Hmm sounds like you are seeing more stuff than I am possibly? Following the directory trees for each just takes me back to either the Receda Cube Focus page, or the Front page.

If you find anything new & juicy, can you post it here pls

To me, it feels like the magical academies from Discworld. Very old, lots of arcane knowledge (if you're on the inside), obviously powerful, but not considered totally respectable:

"Today the scholares of Beston Cellars may rightly be called the natural inheritors of those brewing rooms, for I observed this night in Thilke Market a sire turned home after dining with Mrs. Haarten, a supposed scholar whom I identified by his cap, drunken and reeling in the street...Despite the continuing disapproval of the towns folk, the Academy remained."

But who knows. Maybe in recent years, they've gotten better. But people still seem skeptical, as shown in the op/ed piece about Sente:

"On the other hand, isn't it terribly convenient that the Cube has been "found" in some place that only Academy researchers can vouch even exists, much less currently communicate with?"

Ahh, mysticism vs. skepticism. I'd say we're lucky to know which side to support, but that portrait of Sente is kind of creepy... Razz

wow all this in a few hours... sheesh, too much to catch up on...

3) subscription, seems like it's not ready yet. let's take a look at how we can authenticate on websites:
[list][*]web-based logins: that'd need a form, but we don't have. that page [the subscription error] is STATIC. no php, only plain HTML.

Here's some technical jargon (I know it's been replied to before, just expanding on the explanation for the future):

you won't see PHP as it's entirely server-side. Even viewing a .html file in the browser, it may have been generated by server-side PHP. A form is still also staight HTML - it's where the form submits that's important. there's no telling what server-side language they have parsing code in .html files, which may potentially contain language source code on the server. (for example, in IIS, you can tell the server which .DLL is used to parse any file extension, essentially making the file extension meaningless to the end-user, because I could parse a .PHP file with the ASP DLL and vice-versa, eg. so an HTML file could ideally contain any server-side language, though the result of any language is straight HTML (+other client side scripting elements like xml, plugins, etc)

re: 'Authenticate' page
as for the link to the authenticate page, there are two possibilities - neither determine whether the login is functional yet or not (aside from the fact there's no login box to be found).
1) we're viewing a webpage where the links themselves point to the 'authenticate' page, which means the server, on creating the page we're viewing, knew we're not logged in, so didn't write the links to the actual page locations, but to the authenticate page. That, or the page itself is static and not dynamically created (a meta point, so far)
2) typically these pages are created dynamically, with direct links to the actual stories, but only those protected pages check for authentication, then redirect to the login page. ie, this page would link to the secure pages themselves, not the 'authenticate' page, but those pages would then redirect to the 'authenticate' page if you weren't logged in. This is typically the way sites like this (eg news sites) handle security, as it reduced server load, since authentication is checked on every single page, only those pages which are intended to be secure.
ie, if the link itself doesn't need to be secret, code it into the page and don't worry (yet) about whether the user is allowed to see the page. Only do the security check when they request the page that page.

That was quite long-winded... but my point is, without knowing whether the page is static or dynamically generated, we can't tell if PPCS.com is yet dynamic (we theoretically could find a login right now and get to the secure pages), or if (meta) every page is still entirely static html and logging in (or 'authenticating') is a non-possibility at this point.

To remain in-game, the website is supposed to appear to be a fully functional new website, IMO, unless of course, Sente setup a mirror of the real PPC news website, and edited many dates and such to parallel to our Earth year, serving the important pages for us to know. In which case, it's doubtful the site will be updated on a daily basis, remaining entirely in-game - that Sente is mirroring any relevent new PPCS content himself as it becomes available in PPC.

re: cookies
As for cookies, there's no way to know if the pages are checking for cookies. Even if knew if the pages were in fact static HTML or dynamically created with a server-side language, we wouldn't know for sure if or what pages request cookies.

*phew* finally caught up! Very Happy

as to the futures, note, they have a different set of dates for their signs, more the same each month, and different signs. as old as astrology is, thats a big change to make for those that believe in astrology. the cube is probably related in some way. also, many newspaper astrologists tend to aim each one at a person they know or know of of that sign that they know reads the paper. finding the bday of some of the importants involved may be a good thing to do. theres going to be more hints here.

also.... the signs of the zodiac are based on constellations. different interpretaion, or different stars?

my favorite part is this:

Quote:
Well, after a year, don't you think that this plan should have come to fruition? For all that we know, it was representatives of this Earth that stole the Cube in the first place. Why should we trust them? Why does Sente refuse to comment to the public regarding his plan, despite requesting significant funding from the City Council? And why, above all, has this plan taken so long to put together? We've been waiting patiently, Sente, but now our patience is at an end!

this is exactly what we (almost) have been saying for a long time - it is nice to see that the actual (that is: our) time lapse since the first ads appeared has been incorporated into the game. well, it seems the long wait *was* part of the game, but unfortunately, we were playing along by waiting. Laughing
