[META] Game Pace Redux

Topic split off from here. yanka.

Well there's something this game has never been accused of.

Let's see, we are in pre-game now, the newspapers were pre-pre-game, the half a year of waiting was pre-pre-pre-game, and then there's project syzygy which was pre-pre-pre-pre-game (more of a interviewing process really).

SalmonofDoubt suggests we suspend the search till we know more. well gee, what's to halt, man.

Bear in mind, the perplexians are also getting rather impatient. Sente is dragging his heels fFor absolutely no reason at all now, and generally pissing everyone off.

Well, I suppose that was badly phrased. I really meant, that because our opinions about what's relevant and what's not change all the time, we, as the ARG community move on...You know the kind of thing - Reconstructionism is a big issue right now, but, by next week, it could be dead in the water. So, if I write a heartfelt article about religion and metaphysics for the Sentinel today, and then it gets published a month later (no bad thing in itself, of course) then we may all be saying be then 'Oh, we've finished that debate for now...so what...'.

That's sort of what I meant...

I agree...the actual progress of the *game* per se is pretty glacial, which is a different thing

Confusion arises because I just referred to the 'game' - I would say certain aspects of it *do* move fast - sometimes its quite hard to keep track of all the incoming Sentinel stuff, for instance, regardless of whether 70% of it is junk or not. But that's maybe not defined as actual 'gameplay', I suppose. Yeah, as regards puzzles, cards, clues to what the hell's going on in the murder mystery, new websites - it is a bit like pulling teeth.

I hope that maybe one day soon the floodgates will open, and we'll be inundated with all the masses of stuff the MC Team have been diligently preparing for us over the last year and a half. It'll be a bonanza.

But I know what you mean...there are times when it feels like they're making it up as they go along...

Good call, Scott, when you write them all down like that, this game appears to have been going on for ages. Maybe Bronwen's been sacked from Mind Candy (see this thread) because of the terrible marketing decisions made over the last year. Ok, I'm all for building up suspense and publicity so that when a game is launched it has had maximum exposure to potential players, but the danger of holding out too long is that people lose interest and find something else. Either this is the tone the game will follow throughout, or they haven't started yet. If you're lurking on here PMs, please start soon, or your going to lose a bunch of really brainy, charismatic and good-looking puzzle solvers and your game will be a lot less fun.

You have been warned!

To be honest, I've already started to lose interest in PXC. There's a lot more action in games like Art of the Heist. Shame really, cos as a Brit I was looking forward to playing a game in which I'd have a chance to get out and about a bit. Still, I may have to eat my words when the puzzles cards come out. Hope so....

I'm still greatly looking forward to it but I have to agree than in the meantime it's a good idea to branch out into other ARGs as well. At first I wouldn't have thought of doing that but with the rate of progress this game has been making there's more than enough time to fit in a totally different ARG or two at the same time.

Well, based on the action we have had so far, we may not get a chance to go out and DO very much, so far there has only been one real life interaction, and the curtain is out so far that even in game characters are behind it and don't interact with you. At the moment, we are being given loads of info, but not being told what to do with it. Unfortunately, the game seems to have been designed by people who haven't played the games, and so are making it for ease, rather than in the style that the player would want. Shame. Bang Head

I have to admit to being very disappointed at this point, this is my very first ARG and being a newbie I tihnk MC are giving all ARGs a bad name. I came full of enthusiasm to learn about something completely new to me and have very much enjoyed getting up to speed, but now I just want the game to begin...properly. The archer puzzle was rather lame and this whole card debacle just smacks of being unprofessional. I know there's all oog curtains and all that but c'mon any company worth its salt would at least let their potential customers know that theres been a delay in production. Personally I'm going to give it til the end of June and then go looking (and taking my money) elsewhere! Confused

To all you doubters: have faith.

This is my first ARG to, but look at the potential this game has - there could quite literally be hundreds of sites dedicated to informing us about the PxC world. Even though this may take months for the MC to do, just look at how much info we've had in the past couple of months - very little, so on the logic that the PM's aren't sitting on their asses all day watching us, they must have plans for the next half a year at least!

Moreover, (Good use of connectives - check) bear in mind that the Hons and co. are expecting the sale of the cards and other sources to provide their wage. They will mind if they lose a customer, and will prob do loads to captivate us, the audience. Also, I believe that the Hons were in fact extremely active in The Beast, jointly providing the Trail and the Guide for it. These guys know what makes a good ARG.

Should all the above points fail to penetrate you, think back - stumbling across the error logs, exploring The Sentinel, the excitment of watching you counterparts on the webcam at Abbey Road, interacting and relaying info - next time, that could be you!

So in conclusion, trust in MC. Give this crazy game time to wow you if it hasn't already, for we are experiencing the formation of a great genre. Don't judge it before it has even started.

i agree but there is only so long that they can drag it before it will snap (if you know what i mean). i think the archer puzzle was something to keep us running and a notifacation that the game is still running strong even if the puzzles are few and far between. i think we just have to hold on for the long rides 'cos this game looks like it will have many many more months of life in it. when the puzzle cards come out the flood gates will open, i think, and hopefully more people will want to join in the game. the PM's will be pushing the publicity (i think, again) so that the £100K can be raised to atleast pay for the prize money. obviously (as mentioned before) the wages need to be payed and MC only have so much money. so i think patience is the key Very Happy

Can they get on with captivating us then please? Surely a fantastic beginning alone does not a good ARG make...

...and aren't connectives only connective if they're joining two clauses of a sentence? Wink I plan to make 'moreover' my word of the day now, thanku!

This thread is like listening to the British complaining about the weather!

Very Happy

We have at least one update everyday, our level of interaction with characters is increasing and we've had a handful of teaser puzzles. Slow build (very slow) has got to mean longevity.

The cards are another method of recruiting players...so definitely still building and not ready to go yet.

Just out of interest anyone remember this thread? Even when it's all over I think it'll be hard to decide who won that one! Good luck Rose! Smile
