achilles futures

As already mentioned "Heel boy" may be a reference to Achilles.
And this may just be an odd coincidence, but looking at "the man" "little space" from...
Quote:
The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
Miss Priss, when last we spoke you were plotting vengeance on he who done you wrong. Giving the man a little space may be just the unexpected trick to lure him back to your lair.

Anagrams include Achilles and net.

edit to add:
And scarper (from the current futures) means 'v : flee; take to one's heels'.
hmm, seems like a pattern.

The following is my interpretation of the Futures. Whether we can use this or not, who knows Very Happy

The Eagle = Aquila http://www.dibonsmith.com/aql_con.htm ("The Eagle")

The Spider = Orion http://www.prvni-civilizace.cz/maia/mezoam/mezoam/nazca/orion.htm ("Like a spider the Orion spin net around the equinoctial line")

The Wave = Baveras http://www.santharia.com/cosmos/stars_water.htm (Maybe as the Futures do reference a triangle. From website: "On each side of the triangle two stars lead to the central star, culminating in it, thus forming the symbol of a wave"

The Archer = Sagittarius http://www.dibonsmith.com/sgr_con.htm ("Romans who named the constellation Sagittarius ("sagitta" is Latin for `arrow')")

The Half-filled Jug - Aquarius http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/constellations/constellations/Aquarius.html ("Water Bearer")

The Dragon = Draco http://www.dibonsmith.com/dra_con.htm

The Three Balls ?

The Dice = Virgo http://www.ufrsd.net/staffwww/stefanl/myths/virgo.htm ("When Dice felt that mankind no longer respected justice, she retreated to the mountains and later abandoned the earth for the sky becoming the Virgin")

The Maze = Taurus http://ocean.otr.usm.edu/~w536950/Courses/AST112/constellation_taurus.htm (Maybe. Labyrinth = Maze?)

The Apple-Thief = Hercules http://www.dibonsmith.com/dra_con.htm ("The eleventh task of Heracles (some references say it was the Twelfth) was to steal the golden apples from the apple tree")

The Hand ?

The Baby = Ursa Minor http://www.msnucleus.org/membership/html/k-6/uc/universe/2/ucu2_3a.html (Little Bear; "The Bear and the Baby" an animated version of the Roman myth on how Ursa Major and Ursa Minor got into the heavens)

How about http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/mythology/hand_orion.html
("According to the Lakota, the Constellation of the Hand, namely the bottom half of the constellation Orion, represents the arm of a great Lakota chief")

Would the maze be Theseus and/or the Minotaur - sticking to the Greek Myths kinda theme? The only Greek myth thing I can think of for "three balls" is to do with the Harpies (I think they were Harpies anyways) who shared an eye... but there was only the one eyeball.

And Hesperides kept picking golden apples from a tree (a greek myth scrumper) and Hera placed a dragon who was never overcome by sleep to protect the tree and stop the scrumping, until Hercules came along and killed the dragon with arrows dipped in the poison of the hydra... So if you roll with that - is Hercules or Hesperides the apple thief?

Maybe I'm just making it fit the needs, but it does tie in to a kind of Greek Myths kind of theme, with Achilles etc...

ive anagramed each name, with and without the, and each group of three, the same. nothing good. on the comparisons to other constellations, nice. i know i know something that might be the three balls, but i cant recall, and the google, she does nothing.

also, on the person who told the person who mentioned e to search...

rhetorical question anyone? same as the person who made the comment of, what was that 24 digit number again? that was their way of saying, maybe we should look at it, not asking someone to post it. relax people....

the apples! right.

only... i was thinking of the foot race

ideas

Using the Greek theme:

1. The Eagle: achilles

2. The Spider: numberous choices

3. The Wave - Poseiden

4. The Archer -Artemis?

5. The Half-filled jug - Echo

6. The Dragon - not sure

7. The Three Balls- possibly the three fates or Moirai, this reminds me of weaving though and of Penelope.

8. The Dice - reminds me of Telemachus but I don't know

9. The Maze- Theseus or Jason

10. The Apple Thief: Eris

11. The Hand:

12. The Baby: Persephone

This is what I can put together - but I have real doubts about it being the answer....

I got that feeling too, given the pace of this 'tremendous project' that's (imperceptively?) "changing the world." But I think we're subtly being told that things have been delayed (through the Sente chronicles), and that they're generally acknowledging our impatience (through letters and op/ed pieces, etc.).

[META] I'm also thinking that Madama Bianca is simply using colorful language to sound exotic and mystical (not cryptic), and is personalizing her 'predictions' for specific members of the team. I mean, she prolly picked out twelve PMs, assigned them a "sign," and writes about their goins-on. Makes offering pointed advice like, "Sushi! Have an eel and cucumber roll; it brings you luck," when you know that teammate just had sushi for lunch. Certainly the previous Futures read like sly winks about issues troubling the team. [/META]

I was thinking that the Spider was either Arachne or Artemis. Arachne was turned into a spider by Artemis when she beat Artemis at a weaving contest. Artemis is also known as a skilled Archer as is Apollo.

The name of the Dragon that guarded the Golden Apples was Ladon

I just found this:

Cheiron
Cheiron, or Chiron, was the King of the Centaurs, and unlike the rest of his race was known for his wisdom, kindness, and his extensive knowledge of healing. He was the son of Cronos and Philyra. Originally, he was the Thessalian God of Healing, but that changed when the Hellenic Gods took over. He was incorporated as the wise centaur. In Greek Mythology, he was the tutor of Asclepius, Theseus, and Achilles (among others). When he left earth, died, or whatever, he was placed in the sky as the constellation Sagittarius. The name means "hand".[/b]

I would tend to agree with you on this. Aside from not being able to authenticate our key, we really don't have a solid lead on where to go next. While all the spec is interesting, we prolly need to kill time until PM's get back on track.

Now would be a good time for a "side quest"?!?

Clues to ... what?

maxim wrote:

I believe there is general agreement on this, and that the Futures are providing clues.

But...clues to what? I only see two immediate puzzles at hand:

o Getting a 'Key' to the Sentinel
o Cracking and using the 24 digit code (221545484848465100503215)

For the first, it is becoming more clear that this is some physical device based on our lack of results in attempting to pass in keys to the sentinel site via the various web methods, and from Sentinel info to that effect.

For the second, a whole host of stuff has been tried.

So, what to do? I now think it is unlikely that the 24 digit code or etc will yield a web method style key. I spec that somehow the 24 digit code, or the Futures hints lead to a geocache which will have a key. I also predict that when (if) we ever get a key, our Sentinel info will still be limited (if only due to the logistics of PMs writing a full paper every week) but strategic.

Maybe the Futures hints point us to how to interpret the 24 digit code as geo-coordinates?
