I think the letters section is most interesting. It provides us with information that the Sentinel is seen as one-sided, narrow-minded, even missing a lot of facts. If this is the case how much can we trust the information we gain from the Sentinel?

i wonder if we can trust certain writers more than others. Iona Rodie, fFor example, seems pretty objective. While John Cormoran is more of an instigator. Is there a nice listing of who wrote what, somewhere? That might be handy in order to get a sense of the moodiness of each author. I think there's only a fFew, so fFor now it should be a shortish list to organize.

Yeah, that was annoying .. hehe.. that was a long day

With reference to the Futures .. i really think that that quote needs to be thought about... could be telling us there's nothing we can do at the moment and that we have to wait for something else to happen

What does everyone else think on this?

Futures

I'm really starting to wonder about the Futures section. I think there may be much more to it.

For a start, if Sente is feeding us the Sentinel for information, it would seem odd that he should be showing us the futures at all. There must be a reason.

And secondly, it seems that there is a good deal of opposition to the idea of even publishing futures in PC. So why would the paper be doing it?

I suspect that Sente is feeding us cryptic messages in these futures. Maybe they only become evident over the weeks, or maybe each set of futures contains a decipherable message. Or maybe I'm seeing patterns that aren't really there.

For a start, this week, there seem to be a number of geometric shapes mentioned. Could there be a pattern? And what's the Japanese for an eel & cucumber sushi roll?

Certainly looks like a puzzle to me...

Quote:

Futures

By Madame Bianca, for the week of March 28.

The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
Floundering? Out of options? Do what I do when trouble hits: Sushi! Have an eel and cucumber roll; it brings you luck.

The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
The Archer has you in her sights. Should your subdolous ways slip, she'll snarl. Scarper.

The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
Shuffle your way to heaven at your weekly card game. Bet big. Triangles are go.

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
The fruits of your labor are sour. Taking up arms is never suggested, though it is often appropriate. Just don't forget to take backup.

The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
Great minds think alike, so get together with a like mind this week. Let two halves make a sphere.

The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
Your fiery nature ignites a skirmish against a rival team. Funnel your energies into something positive, and stop it. You know, before someone loses an eye.

The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
You seem to be in a bit of a bawdy phase. Doesn't seem like a lasting turn. The slightest overstepping of your boundaries will turn you prim again.

The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
Missing a piece of your interpersonal jigsaw is even worse than misplacing your key. This is a good week to take out a personal ad. Go on, it's only your pride.

The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
Unexpected ventures haven't turned out well for you. It's time to get back to basics. Traditional values are on the rise.

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
I think that you shall never be as smart as those who know base three.

The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
Your newfound spirit of independence has opened many portals. Pay no heed to those who would direct your course; use your own internal compass.

The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
You are as beautiful as a flower. Why do you let this ugly-minded person make you dinner? (Eel and cucumber rolls can be lucky for all signs, really. Yum.)

And remember, it's not how you play the game, it's how the game plays you, kiddo.

"Cucumber and eel rolls" seems a bit supicious.
You can get "Cube clue" from "cucumber eel" but you get leftovers. Maybe if you add certain words like "roll" or "rolls" or "and" then you can get something.

You can get "REM Cube clue". REM is used to comment in programming.

It also mentions base 3. What's the postcard number in base 3?

The phrase "Eel and cucumber roll" appears twice. There are too many anagrams to go through, but obvious words include "Clue" or "Cube", and I'm sure there are others.

Things I notice:

Quote:
The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
Floundering? Out of options? Do what I do when trouble hits: Sushi! Have an eel and cucumber roll; it brings you luck.

Floundering - Trout?
Out of Options - That's got to be aimed at us...
Sushi - Fish again
Eel and cucumber roll - anagram?
Quote:

The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
The fruits of your labor are sour. Taking up arms is never suggested, though it is often appropriate. Just don't forget to take backup.

This has to be referring to us, brute-forcing, decompiling...

Quote:
The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
Great minds think alike, so get together with a like mind this week. Let two halves make a sphere.

Looks like a call to solve this puzzle to me.

Quote:
The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
Your fiery nature ignites a skirmish against a rival team. Funnel your energies into something positive, and stop it. You know, before someone loses an eye.

This to me looks like it could refer to the possible split between those who are after the cube and the non-religious anti-cubists like Ian Shivuto mentioned in the letters section. We've already heard that some don't even want the cube found. Skirmish maybe? And... Someone loses an eye?

Quote:
The Maze (November 11 - December 10)

This has to be an obvious call to the basics... like anagrams...

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)

Base 3? Log 3 221545484848465100503215? Well, have we tried it?*

Quote:
The Baby (February 11 - March 10)

Eel and Cucumber!

And remember, it's not how you play the game, it's how the game plays you, kiddo.

I like the sound of this thing!

Could this be the pm's way of telling us that the game is being delayed due to technical difficulties? After all once the newspaper ads had been placed there's no way they could stop the launch if something went wrong.

I think it's their way of telling us that it's already begun, and we are missing the clues!

If you take the Eel and cumber portion and use the rolls as an instruction like in a crosword clue you get the following:

seraching for cube

searching for clue (which is what we're looking for)

There are also refernces to luck and playing cards clue number aced seems to stand out to me.

In the letters page, the letter about Madame Bianca's future struck me....

Quote:
Any newspaper with an 'intelligent opinion' would surely be aware of Avancore's study demonstrating that the predictive power of Futures is no better than chance. He found 40 futures fans and presented half with their 'real' futures and half with fake futures predicting the complete opposite. Both groups claimed their futures were 99% accurate!

That reminds me of Dave Goremans experiment in following his horoscopes and having his brother or someone not follow theirs and seeing who is happier at the end.

I know its probably nothing but I thought I'd share anyway Smile

Hmm, how about this for a clue? Is there an email address for the classifieds section?

Ok, I just tried emailing that address, but got the usual autoreply about not allowing foreigners, etc.

But I got this reply when I emailed them:
