It would be cool if they wanted some of us to take on certain roles - however there is a rule, more or less gospel as far as I can tell, that the PMs aren't supposed to trawl these threads to marvel at our brilliance (good job!!!).

Actually, the I Love Bee's PM's used to browse the forums regularly to see what they should do next. Razz

edit: Had to fix my spelling.

EDIT: For example did someone in the week of March 14 to March 21 come up with some theory that they were really really sure of and got knocked down to size by the forum? Were they being a bit "know-it-all"?

Actually.. you could be onto something there. Except Madame Bianca wouldn't be talking about someone in the forum's.. she would be refering to people within Perplex City. Perhaps at a later stage we will need to know someone's sign?

As soon as you publish something like that, people are going to start indicating which they are...eg Tanner and his half filled jug, so the first horoscope would be a hook and those after would be conveying info based on whose said what since...

...conversely I like songofthephoenix's idea too, but here goes

Madame Bianca...an Archer at your command! (within reason please, I won't take my clothes off in public Rolling Eyes )

I think the rule about PM's is that they're allowed to look through what we're doing, but not interact directly via forum posts or OOG IRC. Unfiction is ALWAYS OOG. They should not directly refer to what we're doing here, but can change things based on our progress here as long as they don't explicitly say that's why they're doing it.

I'm new to all this - but i don't know why there would be ANY rules around what they can and can not do. It's all up to them. There just can't possibly be rules to this thing! They run the show - they can do whatever they like!

SpaceBass's advice to PMs

SpaceBass wrote:

Okay, now let's get a couple of things straight. Even though I love what you're doing, there are a few rules on this board that you really must keep in mind.

First, don't register a second account just to post your trailhead or rabbithole. Duplicate accounts are a no-no and really not worth it anyway, as you'll see when you read my next point.

Next point, once you've posted your initial clue, stop posting about it. I look the other way for trailhead posts, even though they're about as clichéd as a launch can get (along with spamming your trailhead to random members of the community), but I won't look the other way if you keep coming back. That's just bad form and in a way a little insulting to your players. This includes posting under your regular account as if you're playing your own game when you're really just prodding people along. It also includes posting under anonymous unregistered nicks or creating new registered nicks to masquerade as players or in-game characters.

That's pretty much it for the rules actually. But let me encourage you to try to find some other way to launch your game. If you really can't think of any way besides dropping a blatant link or clue on the forums, feel free to contact one of the forum admins (currently: SpaceBass, vpisteve, jamesi, Gupfee, Bill, and ScarpeGrosse) by email or PM, give us your trailhead info, and have us post it for you. We'll be completely discreet and post it as an anonymous tip for you, then use the Force to erase our memories of the entire event. Unless, of course, you post to that thread we started for you. Razz

Good luck with your efforts!

and the 10 commandments

http://tinyurl.com/3zqn9

neither precludes the interaction suggested...and the only thing we know about this ARG so far is that it is going to be different from previous ARGs. Not saying that this is necessarily the best way to go. If all in game characters can read the posts you've got a mess...if only one can (Sente or the in game Mssrs Hon and Smith)...I can't see a problem.

Now is your cue to violent deconstruct... Wink

[EDIT] [MODS TAKE NOTE] Don't think this appropriate for the puzzle thread, could a mod oblige? thanks, Mikey

Up front, sorry for the long post

On the idea of Madame Bianca looking at this forum and responding--

Sure PM's aren't supposed to directly interact with what we do here...

BUT, if Madame Bianca is a seer/astrologist/etc., then wouldn't it make sense that she would have some method of "sight." And if that method of sight was these forums, a random glimpse of people on earth, wouldn't that correspond to her giving predictions to the citizens of Perplexcity? Afterall the similarities of our worlds are profound.... yada yada. So she see's what we're doing, makes predicitons based on that for each sign but TO the denizens of PPC, having absolutely nothing to do with us. Afterall, isn't that what seers/oracles/astrologers have always said they've done-- glimpsed into a different realm?

So you could almost say the use of Madame Bianca's futures would be an indirect use of this forum by a character in the game to all the denizens of the game world and not so much a violation of the keeping this forum OOG. That would provide a link for the PM's to indirectly communicate to us if we HAVE missed something major, without being so blatant as an ingame smack upside the head.

I think we definitely should start looking at futures and linking them to people here for direct advice. At least until we have proof that its the wrong thing to do.

Endgame can't come too soon for you, eh? Take some time to really explore your world fully now. Breathe it in while you still have a chance.

I'm reading this as a note from the PM's: 'we've got plenty of fun stuff lined up for you, don't worry, but for now, do some SPEC'ing, flesh out your concepts and ideas'. I think we're being encouraged to rev the engines and spin the wheels so we can hit the ground really, really running...

I agree ... I think there's plenty to absorb from the Sentinel, etc and we're being told to absorb what we can 'cos we're going to need the background story to make it through this!

[aside] I agree with the earlier idea of splitting this post somehow, but do we split it in to weeks, etc, or by sign?? [/aside]

Hey, they can do what they like, the more interaction (hint, Mme Bianca, action...) the better - I merely thought them was the roolz. Wrong again, happy to be so. And I'm a Spider - icky!!!

Have had a small mental crisis about all this but come out to the same opinion as InspJJ. What I still don't get is...do we have to pretend that Scarlett can't read the forum? Despite the fact she trawls the net for cube references...we must also assume she ask's Jeeves rather than googling like she should.

Here's for willing suspension of disbelief.

Don't be too hard on spiders...Charlotte from Charlotte's Web is one of the best I know (that ending... Crying or Very sad )

In as much as there are *any* rules fFor an ARG . . .

Dave Szulborski says some really good stuff on the topic ofARGs and how they are played in his book. well worth a read. In short, All games must have some things which particpants agree on. These are commonly known as rules. If there are no rules, there is no game. Yeah sure, this isn't a game. Well, it is. So there are rules. And one of them is the PMs cannot interact directly on this side of the curtain. They should certainly be expected to read anything and everything we say and do. But they should never interact on these or any other fForums. Compare it to a game of D&D, if you like. The DM must be able to see what everyone on the playing fField is doing, but fFor him to pick up a player character and start fFighting the bad guys is a direct no-no.

This should not be confused with rules fFor the unfForums, which include much more rigid specifics like "thou shalt not make new accounts to promote thy game."

Not a fact, this is an assumption.

To quote Scarlett:

Quote:
When the guys from MC sent me over the story, though, I noticed it says that the "mysterious cube" is "pictured above".

So it appears Scarlett recieves all of her information from MC.
