Not exactly sure where to put this, we may need another thread to document not-so-obvious information in the mailboxes (translations, written info in the flash, audio clues, etc). For now it can stay here, if there's lots if it we may need a separate thread. I'm open to suggestions.

Ian > recorded calls > Feb. 23, 2005 8:52am. A native Spanish-speaking friend translated it. Friend's comments in ( ), mine in [ ]
Quote:
Ian: "Roberto, you are talking to Ian again." (This is Ian Again)

Roberto: "Hello Ian. Let me guess, you need help leaving, as you needed help coming in."

Ian: "You got it, Mexican! Same passenger, this time she needs to make thru both Cuban and Mexico City custom without a through pat down. Do know what I am talking about?" (you could say "Do you know what I mean"---the first one is a straight translation. The latter one is more colloquial translation.)

Roberto: "yes, yes, yes, I understand, but I have to ask you something...is (she) carrying drugs?"

Ian: "no, no, no, nothing like that. She has some art work that was stolen. She is trying to get it back to the original owner." "You can look at the pictures, if you want."

Roberto: "nah, is not necessary...look, Pablo told me that you two were alright, he just wanted to ask, you understand, right?"

Ian: "I understand perfectly, umm, what is it gonna cost, to make this happen?"

Roberto: "well, money is a litle cheap in the island, but I think that about $400 American. That would be ok, and I will make sure that the man in Mexico knows what to do, but perhaps I do not know if he will want a little more money, but I will tell Pablo to give him a call"

Ian: "good, good, sounds doable. Ok. I will make sure she knows where to go and who to talk to once she gets to the Havana airport."

Roberto: "But, is not only to whom to speak, but how to speak to them, no."

Ian: "(laugh). I understand completely....(I could not make out the name, but it sounded like Anita) [I'm assuming Nisha] ----will speak with you later"

Roberto: "Good, later Ian"

Ian: "Ciao"

Roberto: "Bye"

This conversation pertains to Client > Archived Client Reports > Andre which is a closed case, may or may not be useful, *shrug*.

Could any of the music in "DJH4X Crap" potentially be morse code? I'm not very good at picking up sounds, but something in there might work. Any audial-ARGers want to check it out?

keeping in form with the translations.

Looking at Ian's inbox - in this email the attached file is a newspaper clipping in French, regarding a recent theft at a private museum.

(translated by me Very Happy)

A private museum is robbed

The Police are continuing their investigation into the robbery of Illuze Museum at Rouen. The theft took place on the night of the 1st of March, with the individuals (as yet un-identified) neutralizing the security system, and entering the museum through the rear loading bay. Naturally some details were not unveiled to us. Nevertheless an employee of the museum, who wishes to remain anonymous, has expressed the shock he felt: "They knew what they wanted. All pieces in the left wing disappeared." The director of the museum refused to provide us with a list of missing objects. They will disclose this information in the near future, once the preliminary (first) investigation has finished. The museum is closed until further notice.

ok here's a summary of the german news clipping. More or less (can't say I'm fluent in german so I couldn't translate some things). The article is about the pursuit and arrest of Gunter Branderwine. It talks about how he managed to slip away from the police and into an adjacent apartment building and onto the roof. He tried to steal a car to get away but the police found him and arrested him. As you can see in that one surveilence camera video on ian's site.

Juicy Temples

LRR pin invoice (in Ian's Misc Junk), gives us http://www.juicytemples.com/, which appears to be OOG and Heather (who is on the IG invoice) appears to be a real employee of the real company. (Did someone mention an exploding brain icon?)

And wow, they must be raking it in to pay that much for the design alone!

One of the bands in Nisha's MP3s is the Digginlilies..

If you follow the link to their website, and checkout the second entry, there's a comment from Nisha, with a response from the band.

Again, blurring the lines between game and reality?

Where to start...

Right i've bene reading up on these arg's a bit over the past month or so and this is the first one to come up that i've caught onto soon enough to feel confident at joining in. Can anyone point me in the right direction to help out... I got into Ian Net and hopefully will spend a bit of time this eve pouring over everything to make more sence of it.

Is there anything anybody particularly wants doing?

Right now we're still in the information gathering stage. So far, there isn't any clear cut "this is what we have to accomplish in this ARG" information for us. Basically, we've just stumbled into the lives of Nisha & Ian (and Virgil) and it's going to take us a while to sort things out. There might not even be a "plot" for us to find at this point - this could all just be background information.

The good news is: this is only a few days old. It's quite refreshing that we don't necessarily know what we're trying to do. Sightly more realistic that we've just stumbled across something rather than being actively recruited. So sit back and enjoy the ride. Start combing through the files in the Nisha/Ian/Client areas and see if the rabbithole goes any deeper. Try emailing people (or calling them!). Appreciate the amount of information we have and give it its due consideration. This took a huge amount of work, and it would make baby jesus cry if we just kinda glossed over it.

And in some better news: the game is still evolving. There was an additional IRC chatlog posted on Ian's site today, so it's not like this game is just going to sit around totally static. We'll figure out what we need to do soon enough, but when we do, we might not have the time to go back and study up, so this is a perfect time to gather information with no time pressures.

Well, this ARG certainly hasn't been lacking in the update department. Another couple of updates on Ian's site tonight. There's a new voicemail and a new video to be watched.

The video is a bit odd considering the rest of the stuff we've seen. It's more like a promotional movie rather than footage of an actual theft. It's almost jarring to watch because I kept thinking "well, who is recording this?"

Btw, there's some binary in the url for the movie: http://iannet.lastresortretrieval.com/ian/data/secure/0110100001101001/easteregg01.mov
It seems to translate to "hi"

Will is a snitch. According the the newest voicemail, he gave up Ian's name. Now we know why Audi called him.

Found this in an angry draft in Ian's e-mail box. Is it just him hitting keys really hard, or is it some form of encryption?

I think it's safe to say at this stage that it was just random characters on the keyboard.. we can revisit later if something comes up, but for now it's better to focus on the current events until we have a real puzzle to crack.

The movie link redirects to a /kramer/ subfolder.. was it always this way?

Now this is really werid because I think the video is out of game! An ingame character has access to an out of game video? By the way how do you get to it from the Project List.. it's not under movies..

Is that exploding brain icon ready yet?

It's under "Personal Stuff", Ehsan.

Btw, the kramer directory exists: http://iannet.lastresortretrieval.com/kramer/ , although I don't quite understand why it shows up as empty.
