[UPDATE] Scarlett Kite 8 April New post at the Scarlett Kite, explaining the drawing/photo thing . Also, there's a link to an article.
The article has one very general hint; it says that "cultural and historical knowledge" are important to success in the game.
Is it just me, or does Scarlett use the word "amazing" a lot?

It's not you. Actually I find her whole language usage a bit strange, but that's probably being overly suspicious on my part. I assume they don't speak English (is this wrong?) so she must've learned in a teen chat room.

That's a good point. Has anyone asked the obvious 'Why do aliens always talk in perfect English?' question - or are we assuming Sente's running PXC's equivalent of Babelfish over everything before making it available to us?

I'm not convinved by the whole "photographs are old hat" spiel in her latest post. I think there's something else going on.

More titbits about the key as well...
confirmed as used for ID purposes, but can also receive
So we've got:
Live feeds
ID
emotional state monitoring (and presumably all biometric data...why stop with emotional state)
It wouldn't be too much of a leap to imagine them also being used for key to key two-way communication as Djinn Jr. must be spread somehow.
Also they're not indestructable, can be physically destroyed, or by a virus

Also, if you were her, wouldn't you either be frustrated or amused by the fact that our major media thinks this is all a game? I mean at some point you'd think she'd mention "Hey, you guys are silly!" or "What's wrong with you people?!" or something. Instead she's pointing to articles that state it isn't real and acting like she's all excited about them even though they're wrong. (If this has already been covered I apologize, just struck me as odd.)

To extend my point...if keys are used for communication...it's going to alter your language (txt etcetera ad infinitum). Less requirement for speech.
Presumably the Sentinel (for example) is downloaded directly to subscribers brains (confirmed by the key) and they have to wiggle their noses like Tabitha in Bewitched in order to turn a page. (sorry)
So the fella with the virus infected key that was relieved not to have lost any data was effectively relieved not to have been lobotomised!

Sorry to bang on like some cynical old fart, but someting's amiss here, as far as I'm concerned. Sente is desperate to regain the cube and is coming under serious pressure from people in perlex city to get on with it. But instead of any sense of urgency, we get coy emails that don't tell us much and the witterings of his teenaged daughter, who's treating the whole thing like a sixth form project. I can't help feeling that if these people were serious about getting the cube back that they'd be a little more direct.

As I see it, there are four possible explanations for the language thing:
1. The Academy's translating all the communications.
2. Perplex City has much more advanced automatic translation than we do.
3. The realities are similar enough that they share a language (very unlikely)
4. They've been watching us so long that they've picked up our language, either as a replacement for theirs or as a second language.
I've counted seven "amazing"s in her regular posts, and one in the "About This Site" section. Three of them were italicized, and one was bolded.

Bang away - I agree completely. But I don't see that we have any other options at this point other than watch her and the paper though.

I think what she's trying to say is that pictures have come the full circle. I can almost see that happening, like clothes fashions coming around every couple of decades. But only really from an artistic point of view...
Sure pictures are cool, but drawing pictures takes a hell of a lot longer than photographing. A lot of time would be wasted if all their media used pictures. Unless of course they have some clever auto-cartoon-picture-generator-thingy.

Okay, this is almost certainly coincidence, but it's just such a weird one that I had to share it. I noticed that she mentioned "photographs of leaves," so I entered "leaves" into Google Images. The second result that came up was a photo on amazing.com

Has anyone ever seen an actual picture? Who's to say these aren't completely alien beings that don't even resemble us and they're using the drawings as an excuse to keep us from seeing what they look like? Far-fetched I know, and possibly useless if there's a pic I'm unaware of, but it's a thought.

Yes. One of the Ceretin ads shows a photo of a human face. See it in the Sentinel.
