Am i missing something here? Why is it even relevant what language they speak or how they know english? We need to be focusing on circumstances surrounding the theft. Who was suspected (besides Recon eight), did Scarlett know Fran?...questions like these.

Perhaps there's no need to learn languages. They're obviously more advanced than us, not least intellectually, so its highly possible that just one language has be designated as 'the international language' and pretty much all, if not everyone, speaks it. After all, who's to say that in 100 years time the whole of our world won't speak English.

Because if those who've reported said theft are being dishonest, it might be a sign that we're being led down a path that isn't correct. Since we're basing everything we're doing on what these "people" are saying, it's worth it, to me at least, to check them out past face value.

Let's refer back to the preamble, shall we?

I may be way off base with this, but was the preamble OOG or from someone from Perplex City? If it was from them, then I'm still not convinced. Of course they'd say that, if they're up to something. If this wasn't something they sent to us then it's a different story.

This preamble is from this video believed to be from Sente. However, I am not sure who is doing the speaking.

I have to agree that there isn't much urgency in Scarlett's demeanor to get this Cube back. Maybe everything is a game to Perplexians. They enjoy being perplexed. And Scarlett does say "amazing" alot. I believe someone already tried to connect it with the maze on the postcards. I'll comb for clues in the blog and The Maze futures maybe together they point somewhere. Or maybe I'm just starving for a puzzle.

I tried sending Scarlett a puzzle via email. (details on the 7th April blog update thread). But nothing has come of it so far. Maybe tomorrow?

An another topic that been discussed in this thread. There seems to be some confusion over the terms 'worlds' and 'universes'. If we are talking about Perplex City being another 'world', then I would expect it to be another planet in our 'universe' and therefore the idea of them looking and sounding like us is extremely unlikely. But if we are talking about Perplex City being an alternative 'universe' then it could possibly be a very similar place to Earth, just with a few major/minor alterations in it's recent history. Meaning they could easily speak all the same languages that we do and have no need for any translation.
I think that the latter option is the one that most people believe to be correct. But I will concede if proven wrong.

Thanks RobPal, for explaining this in that manner. I'd seen them as from a distant planet in our universe. Has this been addressed somewhere, I mean from them? Is it explained how they get back and forth and such? I'm just curious why most people came to that conclusion over the other. No biggie, just trying to follow along.

And so Sente hid the Cube, pretending it was stolen, just to give them all something to do! (Bit of an extreme measure, I must admit... Smile )

No probs Dead Weight. I'm very pedantic about stuff like that and thought i'd better clear up any confusion before a heated debate broke out.
To answer your questions, I don't believe that anyone from PC has actually come out and stated that they are from a paralell universe, but it has been stated that 'we have a shared history', which does suggest this theory quite strongly, not to mention all the evidence of an extremely similar base culture, even if the some of the finer eccentricities make us in some ways, worlds apart. Especially in the area of technology. With regard to their mode of transport, it has been theorised that the Cube itself is the key to linking the two worlds, and it has been stated somewhere that the Cube has been used to find out about Earth's history and it seems the present too! There's loads of info about this in older threads that go on for pages and pages, so your best bet might be to do a search for some of the key words, just to bring yourself up to speed with any gaps in the story.

Hope I helped.

Cheers!

Thanks again! I've read much of them, but I guess I'm going to be one of the resident cynics/devil's advocates. We're basing all our assumptions on things they're telling us. If the two people controlling all our information (who just happen to be more than distantly related) are feeding us the wrong things, or are slanting it in a certain way, we won't know until/unless we find others from PPC that say differently.

It's the old "Would you lie to me?" question. Both the honest man and the liar will tell you no, so it's a pointless question. I've seen nothing concrete yet, but the overall attitude, especially the silly blog, which although adds some spice isn't realistic IMHO if such a priceless artifact is missing, unless it's a diversion, doesn't fit. Of course when another faction comes forward and says "Hey, those two are bad news!" I'll be just as cautious of them until we have solid evidence either way.

Not looking for heated debates, although I welcome disagreement. I'm just saying people are taking everything at face value from a censored and bottle-necked information source. If someone here did that to us we'd assume they have something to hide. Since they're from another dimension/planet we don't? Just a thought. Very Happy

I find the idea fascinating how they went with drawings instead of photographs. I used to hate it how my high school art teacher would come to see my drawings and say: "If I wanted a real looking picture I'd have used a camera", she was an Abstract artist and I was a Realist.

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm loving the culture game we're playing with Sente's daughter. True, she has much more information on our culture then we do on hers (seeing as she has access, seemingly, to our entire internet, while we are only fed the morsals picked by Sente). Also, I think the year that the cube has been stolen will explain why Scarlett isn't so desperate to find the cube. I'd get bored after a year as well.

Longish...
So I would just like to declare with this article that it is officially true they are much more advanced, technology wise. We've had photos how long? I mean real modern, 32 bit color photos, stored digitally, for what, maybe 5 years? I mean ten years at the very very very very veeeerrryyyy earliest.
Yes, we've had actual photographic appliances themselves for closer to 100 years, but photographic technology is just now starting to peak and flatten out. Usually a technology that is useful is not discarded until something more advanced comes along and propagates itself. This article suggests that it has been sooo long since they were in rapid production that most young adults don't even have a clue why they are such a big deal to us and have to go look around in "Old Books".
Jeesh, Our society is about a decade away from photo Id's being replaced completely with Dna or some other type of identification system. There are already a few different types of ID's floating around but for one of them to be accepted world wide, that is going to take some serious amounts of time.
The fact that they are so advanced suggests that maybe this pregame newspaper and blog is needed to accustom ourselves to their world. As in, what can and can't be done in their world, because so far it seems to be radically different from what we are dealing with in present times. This could all be just to warm us up for the temporal shock that may come from being completely dropped off in the middle of a hunt for this thing.
*Rampant Spec* Hell, with the use of this key so dependently in the novel, and the game being ran by Firebox, a Hi tech gadget and gizmo catalogue, could this possibly be funded some where higher up in the food chain, by some one maybe wanting to hype up and release something under wraps somewhat like the key, or maybe like what this cube will become? Very random thought so don't put much stock in it all, I jsut had to post it along witht he rest of this...
