The Whole Unity Thing

Ok, so the whole unity thing. Clearly gamem8ker doesn't care about the TEAMS, he want's us ALL to work together... and yet, the game is really a game... You know... with a ranking ladder and score.

So here's the delima. Is he REALLY wanting us to compete? Are we REALLY competing anyway? I mean, we all share answers, and it's taken all of us to come up with the answers. Therefore, what's the point of separate teams? Also, what does the winner take at the end? "Winner takes all". Seriously, it makes no sense to compete.

However, there seems to be a firm hold on team boundries among us all. The ARGonlonist like the YAY's but don't want to BE them. Team-XBox has been extremely useful in everything, but no one wants to BE them either.

So, how do we cross those lines to truely be unified... not just in reality (We already are... we're all helping each other, so where's the competition?)... but in NAME too?

Well, the soultion as I see it is to give up on our former allegences and start fresh. That's why I created an additional team. One that is neutral, and one that could get EVERYONE behind it... if everyone is willing to get behind it.

Frankly it's up to everyone. I too already have my own allegence to my colony "The Chronicles of Blognia". However, if we want to technically follow instructions, AND make sure that we're ALL winners... the we should group.

The colony I created is "ArmyOfOne"
#64452377

Anyone interested? It's really pointless unless we all do it, so I'm looking for the "Yay" (heehee I'm punny) or Nay on the idea.

The other solution is that everyone just join Yay since they already have the most members and points, etc. Of course, this would bring us back to the delima... are the other established teams willing to defect and become traitors to an established team? There seems to be a clear psycological difference between being a traitor and going to the "enemy" vs. standing behind a utopian idea and starting fresh. I don't know... I don't really care... I just think we should all be on one team because A) we already act like we are, and B) gamem8ker seems to want us to be.

both leaders of yay and argolonists have agreed that if we could merge we would! Very Happy...maybe the "work together" bit refers to within your colony. Anyhow best of luck... and good name too!

<grumble>plus i still cant go in and do leadery type stuff like remove members with stupid nicks </grumble>

I was more thinking everyone create new users on one team... not really MERGE in a programatic sense. (and yes, I lost the ability to remove members too, but I can still transfer leadership... hmmm)

The other teams can just die. No one need to do anything with them. I'm just promoting the idea, because even the last challenge seemed to imply the desire for use to act as one, not many teams.

Frankly I don't care what the name is... YAY suits me just fine... but has anyone wondered why the Leader board if we are supposed to work together? I just thought it strange.

On a personal note, I'm quite happy on my current team. We're doing well (relative to the game, and how long we've been playing), and it's mostly made up of a growing network of friends, vs just people on a message board. But almost all of us participate on these forums, so we're virtually on your team, if by everything but NAME. I don't need to win either. I hate it when I can't get the answers on my own. It's one thing to hash out the challenge... it's another thing to just get the answer from someone. I'd rather be losing but enjoying the game. Still, I think there's something to the idea that the game is intended for ONE team... one HUGE team. That's why he still gives points for members.

I think Gamem8ker wants us to work together, but i don't think he wants one united team. For example on this last challenge he posted 6 images where 6 different teams talk. Without the team boundries that challenge wouldn't have ever been solved.

I've seen some people say we should all join in an IRC chat, or create a unified forum. But I'm not sure how well this woukd work either. Ever been in an IRC chat with 100+ other people all talking at once? No one can follow it all. And one forum would be a little unwieldy as well, teamxbox's forum had 300+ pages alone on the last challenge, add in our 65, and every other teams and it'd break 500 easily. I don't know how good of an idea that would be.

I think as of now we are all working together well, theres no fueds going on, or any real competition, so i think we should just stick to how things are until it stops working.

Just my $0.02

I think that instead of creating a new colony for everyone to join, what will eventually happen is that the boundaries will disappear and it will no longer be important what colony you are in. It has already happened with Yay and Argolonists.

None of it's members cares who gets the puzzle first, or which of the two a new member decides to join. We work together as one with Yay, but also with many other small colonies who actively participate in the Unforums discussion.

Eventually, two styles will emerge... Teamxbox with it's sheer brute force bandwidth, 100's of user arguing in a formless, 200+ page thread going off in countless different directions. Our style is a little bit more organized (we break into different subjects, we Trout old information, we respect each other, we have very involved moderators, etc). Each individual member will choose which of the 2 styles they like better and work there. A few others like to lurk in both and cross-polinate discoveries and new ideas (bees, anyone?).

At the end of the day, this game will end with Teamxbox and Unforums working together but apart, in an almost symbiotic manner. One feeding off the other and being stronger because of it.

So the colonies have trascended our colony and problem solving has taken a life of it's own (case in point: the "reward pic" challenge). Now, if we could create a business model around this and harness all the problem solving power for a meaningful application...

As for a buisness model, this is the whole idea of the open source software community. Everyone strives to achieve but at the same time help everyone else.

sorry that was a littlel off topic.
