Okay, from a Christian standpoint, angels don't know everything. Specifically, they don't know when the end times are coming.

But this is a place.

It *sounds* like it could be purgatory or limbo.

There is a difference. Limbo is from the Latin meaning "border" and it's a place where souls go to wait. They aren't tormented -- in some texts, they're even happy. In Catholicism, I believe, there's a limbo for the just, and a limbo for children who aren't baptized, where they await the resurrection.

Purgatory is a place of "purification." The souls there suffer until they are purified enough to go to heaven.

Okay, the problem is these are all translations -- the Hebrew for the place of the dead is She'ol. It may just mean "death" or it may mean some sort of place where dead people abide. The Torah isn't clear about whether existence continues after death.

So, the New Testament, when referring to the concept, usually uses "Hades," which is the closest Greek equivalent to the Hebrew She'ol. The problem is that the concepts weren't all that similar. A lot happens in the Greek Hades. People go and come back, they accomplish things there, they're punished there, they're rewarded there. She'ol, on the other hand, is very mysterious. We don't know anything about it. It's just a name that's mentioned.

Sometimes translations use "Tartarus," (or Gehenna) which was an area of Hades where people were punished. It's almost always translated as "hell," whereas She'ol and Hades can be translated as "grave" or "death" as well.

Anyway, I'm not sure if Catholic doctrine holds that there are angels (fallen or otherwise) in Purgatory or limbo.

But there's another possibility: death.

One thing angels don't know is death. And it could be, metaphorically or even literally (in the Greek sense where Hades is an actual physical place).

So, don't know if any of that helped, but there it is...

 		and here I was thinking purgatory was just a ski area in Colorado...
I was way off


seriously though, how would an angel get to purgatory? esp. if they don't even know about it. would it be enough to die in corporal(sp?) form? And in that case, could Azrael be a link to Raziel? Maybe we could have him looking around a little

Perhaps the good doc has some theories I trust your knowledge Phaedra, it is just that the Dr. is IG... and... well... yea... you know...

Yea, I thought of that too. Emailed him and it hasnt been returned yet so it must be a real address

Also, It was implied it a chat that Raziels soul should be in purgatory right now.

So, it could be him contacting us.

 		true, I got that from the chat with Azrael too now that you mention it. It was possible for Raziels soul to go to purgatory without anyone knowing.
Interesting spec that it could be Raziel we are getting through the email. Looking at how surprised Azrael was that someone was using that email I think it is close to 100%

[META] how cool would it be if the PMs are advancing the story independant of one another? So the one really didnt know that we were getting anything from the Azrael.in.heaven@... dont know how possible or true, but it would be neat...[/META]
