something that started out yellow? what does that mean?
I took it as a joke about wearing something clean, not something white that is now yellowed with age and/or dirt. Could be wrong though. Hard to hear typed sarcasm.

The police intervened based on a growing negative mood in the crowd
Spec: Is there a chance they "felt" the negative mood by reading the protestors' emotional state through their keys ?

Just a little thinkery that has just entered the ol' brainbox... the new story in the sentinel is asking for feedback (all that "what do you think of the proposal..." stuff) and Scarlett dropped a little hint about Iona Rodie changing the government's stance of an enviromental issue - could these be related somehow? I emailed the Sentinel asking for info on Iona, maybe I should try young Miss Kiteway?

mmm, nice idea... but not sure whether or not they'd just say it was through the keys that they got the idea the crowd was going to turn nasty. Am not sure about the emotional state being stored on the keys - I get more of a Chip and PIN/Credit Card vibe from them - because you can pay for stuff with them. Maybe the Perplexians store specific ID type info as well as financial stuff all in one place?

Also note the 3 new letters from Earth on the letters page

So desperate are we on Earth to find the Cube that we've even resorted to thinking that the Academy has implanted hidden messages in the words and pictures of the very Sentinel itself. Ridiculous, surely? However, such brutal dissection of the information you provide is confounded by the fact that we don't know what we're looking for in the first place.
I'm wondering if this means there's something more there now, since they included this, or if it's just a preparation?
Well, all the wording's mine in that letter. I was having a quick dig at our efforts at coming up blank. Vainly hoped they might reply with some answers along the lines of that they had noticed unusual things happening to their paper. Apparently not, so read into their silence what you will. Although I gather the other two people are real and not made up by PMs, yes?
Anyway, it got me thinking. This might not even be the start of the hunt. It would explain Sente's continual absence. After all, it's never been stated by Sente himself that handing us an alien newspaper is the first clue to finding the Cube and Scarlett hasn't mentioned anything about us getting started either. Why would Sente turn up if he hasn't even put his plan into motion?
Finger crossed for Tuesday, eh?

That's awesome. Totally. Everyone has the option of having a key and it's mood indicator can be turned on or off. A public demonstration would be like "Hey we're believe this stuff we're saying!" and it could be way more impressive than Earth speeches.
They probably come in a billion diffferent designs with varying levels of complexity. Are they implants or handhelds or like Swatches?
I want one.

Is it just me, or is the Sentinel really trying to get us going about the protest? It's the first article in my memory where they asked the readers on their thoughts about it.

No, it's not just you lol Look up there a bit ^ Unless all our emails about the Sente stories has caused them to seek feedback... but no, why would they specifically ask...

Something Yellow I've been looking for some references to 'Something Yellow' and it turned up these lyrics from a band called ELOY.
Quote:
Some day when wake up in the morning
you'll never forget that day
you feel that there is something in the air you've never seen before
something tough,something yellow
and your lungs begin to melt
during chimneys someking everywhere
you hear the voice of your president
we must do something against the smog.
I'm not sure if there's anything in this, but it may have some obscrure relevance that Madame Bianca thought could help us.
???????
Any thoughts people?

The protesters were arrested before they actually did anything! Also, the 'civil disobedience'? They seem to take things very seriously. In Britain, this could be a breach of your human rights couldn't it? e.g. the right to assembly
i was thinking the cops did pretty well. I'm kind of thinking we are seeing a sort of polite regard to peacable assembly. They intervened when things did indeed start getting rowdy. And where, in a fFull-on fFascist state or whatever, protesters would be rounded up and jailed, here we see the people were arrested when they started getting rowdy, and soon released in a swift and sane orderly manner. In other words, the police are not unreasonable bastards.
What?! "Polite regard"? Scott, are you being serious?
The article says, "The police intervened based on a growing negative mood in the crowd." I'm sorry but in any reasonable society, the police shouldn't be able to arrest the organisers of a peaceful protest just because they're CONCERNED that it might turn nasty. Even if on Earth recentlly, Western countries in general and the United States in particular have so strongly embraced the doctrine of pre-emptive action against PERCEIVED threats, it doesn't mean that we should see this as "not unreasonable". You're innocent until proven guilty! And you're certainly innocent if you haven't committed a crime YET. This seems to me more and more like the film MINORITY REPORT, where people are arrested, tried and convicted and jailed for crimes they're about to be about to committ in the future. To my mind the police in Perplex City have behaved JUST LIKE those in "full on fascist states", as you put it.

Just as a general observation - when you have a long block of text that you would like to post, consider attaching it to your post (rather than having it take up half of the page).

wow. i thought it amusing, didnt think people would be puzzled by it.
theres an old joke about a guy with yellow underwear, discovered in an accident, getting kidded by his coworkers. until he mentions that they were white when he bought them. the joke was reused in a cartoon, also, that my sister watches. the underwater one, with the starfish? cant remember the name.
and... way to much text for no result...

Sounds a touch like Minority Report.
I wouldn't call Perplex City a totalitarian state, but the keys certainly present the potential for evil.
