Pffft; you guys are thinking about this all backwards. First we need to make full use of all information sources to find the cube. Trust Sente? Don't trust him? Doesn't matter so long as we get what he wants.
Then we can debate whether we're gonna give it back, what it's worth, what it does and if there's maybe a higher bidder

anyone notice in the guardian article from a week ago the references to photos of a "Harold Shipman" lookalike? Is this Sente maybe? Or is it a clue for us?
Um, unlikely I would have thought. Not exactly an appropriate IG reference y'know (for those who don't know, he was a recent mass murderer here in the UK and it's still, understandably, a rather sore topic ).
And on a lighter note:

I think we need to find another channel of information. Everything we have gone on so far has come to us through Sente and it's clear that without unbiased information we cannot decide whether to trust him or not.
Obviously there are obstacles. We only know of one person (Sente) who can communicate with us from 'the other side of the curtain'. Assuming this communication has been made possible by the cube's powers then only those who know something of how the cube works could also manage that feat. This leaves us with either others at the Academy, or others who may have studied the cube (religious groups maybe?)
Can we get a coded message to them past Sente? Give them an opportunity to contact us themselves?
Only then can we decide what to do with the cube should we recover it.

But he wasn't referred to as shipman in-game- i'm suggesting that maybe the pic the journo saw was of sente? if it was a particularly prominent pic in the office where he did the interview it could be possible...

My new theory: Sente hates us.
You know, I was really expecting we would get some interesting news items yesterday, based on the fFuture mentioning tuesday. Then I thought, oh, if someone had a bad day tuesday, it might not hit the news till wednesday. that makes enough sense. so then wednesday comes . . . and we get a news item about some fFood chain reopening?
Sente hates us. Sente really really hates us.
Some people I've heard claim this is still only pre-game. I dunno if i directly agree, but i can neither prove nor disprove this suggestion.

i reckon the chicken stuff has to hide a clue... it's just too weird otherwise! also what about all the names featured in the articles? anyone tried getting them together and shuffling them? a lot of the surnames and even some first names seem to be place names (clapham, hesketh)

In response to whether the game has really started yet, I think that it is either about to start or it has already started and we just aren't smart enough to pick up a meaty trail. To start the game like this with no bang and no real puzzle action, just making us slowly digest (possible) minutia, well, I think that would be too sadistic. Either that or I happened to join this thing at the start of a 5-day lull...

Well, I don't think Sente actually controls the future, so I also don't think he controls the news we recieve as the sentinel is simply reporting what happens, primarily for PerplexCity's citizens. That's why I think it's far more likely that clues will arrive through the futures, letters, classifieds (if they ever become accessable) etc as those would all be far easier for him to manipulate.
As for whether we should give the cube to them anyway, I think we should cross that bridge when we come to it.

You know, much as I'm enjoying all this "getting to know the characters" stuff, I'm beginning to wonder if this game has actually started after all?
Maybe they're waiting for all their press to go out before they actually get going, but I'm worried that unless these guys pull their finger out and start giving us something to work with, I'm in danger of getting bored and giving up.
maybe I'm just in a cynical mood....

nah i think you've got a good point, that i think many people share. this game is moving very slowly. they really need to have some big new step forward, and soon, otherwise people will start to get bored and drift away.
to give an example, i've just been away to Australia for 3 weeks and didn't check the game at all. When i got back i was very suprised (and must admit partly pleased) that there had hardly been any developments in the game at all, save the discovery of the scarlettkite site.
this is partly why we are jumping all over this Brett guy right now - he is quite probably OOG, but there just isn't anything else going on and because of this people have started chasing the remotest of leads.
c'mon PMs! do something!!

You guys need to find the love, and trust that the PMs know what they're doing. You wouldn't want them to launch content if it wasn't ready would you? That'd be dissapointing if you ask me. Besides, if you -do- get bored, there are plenty of quality ARGs playing out right now. That's what I've been doing, playing AotH while keeping up on the updates around here and staying far, far away from [spec].
If you really do feel disillusioned, take a break.
Besides... can't you feel it? The tension is building, the Perplexians are restless (Well, not if you count the article that was released today... interesting how an Academy Researcher was interviewed eh? Good press for Earthian bling eh?), and something is about to happen. Don't give up just yet.

seems to me if you want fast games you play some stupid shoot em up or something
me i have fun speccing and knowing that as ive been waiting a year its gonna be a very big and longlasting, convoluted game -- of course there could be pages of good puzzles out there that were just too dumb to discover

theres a BIG difference between fast and slow, tanner. this game is way too slow, and all the idiotic spec being generated because of that is starting to get a bit tedious. ~yawns~
if you want slow, why not go watch some paint dry instead of playing ARGs?

Well if you would have prefered them not to bother putting anything up until they were completely ready we would have spent the last few months with half as many people and absolutely nothing to talk about. It seems to me that they're clearly not quite ready yet, when they are it will begin in earnest and I for one have full confidence that the result will be worth it. For the people who've been here for anything longer than before february, even this is far more than what we were getting before then. You should have seen the spec and discussions dragging on before the initial video went up...

fair point brat, i guess you're right- I haven't been here long enough to start moaning.... but I do like a complicated long-lasting game.... so long as there is anything resembling a "game" involved!
All I'm saying is something has to happen or we might as well have picked some guy's blog at random and be speculating about him!
I do plan on hanging around though, I suppose I'm just trying to give the PMs a kick up the backside!
