What a treat to get a wave from Scarlett, I'm real, I only wish I was arty enough to have done the ambigram, I thought it was great.

tried destegging with type rplexi and perplexcity etc just for the hell of it...but zip.

Think it's another example of Scarlett's delight in all things novel...she's like a kitten in the sunshine with a ball of string.

OK, 'fess up; who's been sending flirtatious emails to Scarlett?

Not to shoot you down guys, but I'm not sure there's a lot of mileage in a relationship with someone on a different planet Smile

EDIT: - more on this here

I thought that's what Immersion Unlimited was for....

And lastly, I tried running the ambigram through Stegdetect and got an error - 419 extraneous bytes before marker 0xc0. Took a look in a hex editor and couldn't really see much there though, aside from a mention of AppleMark, which I'm guessing is some sort of imaging s/w from Apple that's been used on the image. Perhaps there's also a watermark in there but I'm not 1337 enough to find it I'm afraid.

Oh, and FWIW, I agree with the theory that the letters highlighted are just so we can make out the words Perplex City when the image is the right way up.

The Brett could be Brett James Gilbert, he has a great site on ambigrams and explains the whole red-highlighting thing in his Graham ambigram http://www.55cards.com/ambigrams/

Is it just me (and it ususally is!) but is this guy's site pretty identical to Scarlett's? He favours the same fonts and coloours and layout as both Scarlett and the Sentinel. Could be a coincidence, but it'd explain why somebody 'sent' it in to her and she's displayed it, whereas she hasn't put up any of the puzzles some people have sent

it's probably just me being weird

Not only that, but the whois data for the above site gives the following address

Registrant:
55 Cards
45 Grafton Street
Cambridge, CB1 1DS
UK

Aren't the PMs from Cambridge?

Oh no! it'll shatter all the boys' dreams if Scarlett turns out to be a big beefy artist man from Cambridge! Maybe he's doing the drawings too?

Yea, but peek behind the cartoon!? Methinks there are some whose swords are a bit too keen! Wink

erm, i don't know where you got your address from, I got
107 Ladywell Prospect
Sheering Mill Lane
Sawbridgeworth
Hertfordshire
CM21 9PS
GB

Again, NEAR cambridge, but not in cambridge... I've got a friend at Cambridge uni who's going back up on monday, maybe he could scout out the 2 addresses? I'll post to them regardless... Smile heehee

Jeb

(Aside: Interesting how one of BJGilbert.com (Brett's) links is to "Rubik's Games" - Cube reference, or am i just mining?)

EDIT: I just realised, I whoised "ambigrams.co.uk" which forwards you to the site above... maybe unrelated then?

Yeah, Immersion Unlimited - designed to be an in-game site for characters to interact with players. Players must stay in character, not mention unfiction by name (usually just called The Brown Boards), the term ARG*, etc.

The forums are here and the PPC forum is here. Not hugely used, but I think there's a few of us who stop by from time to time to check for updates.

*Given that it's been made clear Sente has got Hon to set up an ARG to find the cube I'm not sure exactly how this rule works over there.....

Oh, come now, have you been to ambigrams.co.uk? And how common a name is Brett? (Well, I'm british, so not at all common over here, I guess over the pond it may be more so... meh Smile )

I say, innocent bystander my foot, I'm gonna get him (maybe only email + letter though, making a visit may seem a little OTT in the light of morning)

Jeb

EDIT: Looking at the other links on Brett Gilbert's site, all the other ambigrammers (pl. sp?) have quite different styles to Brett, there are some similarities, but Brett's page certainly has the most in common with the blog entry... And of course he's called Brett which is handy Smile

EDIT(2): Apologies for the edits to my posts, but better than double posting Smile Right, so you tell me that this is not a puzzle (then, when you can't tell me that, tell me how the hell to solve it?)

EDIT(3): OK, looking at the source, it seems more like an unupdated website with no content. Bugger.

EDIT(4): Just to say, I have now emailed him, will post any reply.

Well, is Brett J. Gilbert OOG or not... he certainly knows of Ms. Kiteway, but gives no impression as to whether that is as a [cough]player[/cough] or whether he is from Perplex City?
Here is the email and reply in full:

Quote:
Jeb to Brett:

Brett,

I recently stumbled across your website (ambigrams.co.uk) on the
search for the creator of the attached ambigram (which says Perplex
City). It was found on a blog belonging to one Scarlett Kiteway
(http://www.thescarlettkite.com/), and was apparently sent in by a
reader by the name of Brett. Now, for reasons that aren't really
relevant, we almost certainly know that it was not sent in by a
"reader" but was made almost "to order". Now when I stumbled across
your (quite fascinating) website, I immediately noticed 2 things - the
similarity in style with the ambigram from the blog, and of course
your name. Given that the other artists you link to seem to have
slightly different styles, I have guessed that the ambigram is one of
yours. If this is the case, do you have any further information
(note, I can get to Cambridge if needs must). If this isn't the case,
and you are thoroughly confused by this entire email, please email me
back and I will try my hardest to explain what is happening...

Also, on a separate note - is version 4.0 of www.bjgilbert.com
non-functional - it looks that way from the source code, I just wanted
to confirm...

Thanks in advance

Jebediah Joya

Brett to Jeb:

Jeb,

Thanks for the mail. I had no idea that my ambigram design would be so
thought provoking! Glad everyone liked it. I was chuffed to bits that
Ms Kiteway featured the ambigram in her blog.

However, there is no hidden message, I swear; no significance in my
Cambridge locale; no mysteries locked in the remnants of my old
webpages (which really are just my old webpages); no codes; no
cyphers; no treasure maps or Rosetta Stones...

...and precious little help for the keen eyes and eager minds of those
who are seeking that which is being sought!

Good luck!

Brett

Curiouser and curiouser...

Jeb

EDIT: Just a thought, does this move to a new thread, or not until what the hell is going on is confirmed?

This Brett character's a bit odd. Surely he must have known that it would cause some people to think there was a hidden message/code or something, and if he did that just wastes everyone's time! ...or am I being horribly unkind and evil in thinking that...
