[UPDATE] April 12th

Virgil is intersted in his new project helping Nisha but still, somehow, manages to complain about his alienation.

virgil

I know I am the only one who thinks that Virgil is giving us hints in his rants. I haven't changed my mind. I don't think the last rant on non-linear was just about the game he was making. I think this one is saying, "I've been trying to tell you something..."

I wish xnbomb would take a look at these. I could just be reading something into it that isn't there.

I am also the only one who thinks that Virgil is pulling the strings on most, if not all, of this ARG. There is some stuff he wrote about games that lead me to think this, it isn't total conjecture. Still, I don't think that line of inquiry takes us anywhere at the moment.

Of the video game as
The 21st Century powerhouse of interactive play

Axiom: in order to play the video game the player must be played by the game. The game as a container of secret knowledge, as a self-contained universe that must reveal its hidden architecture, posits the game player as decoder who decodes only in the midst of playing. The player participates in a community of committed decoders, inside and outside the gaming territory.

Ian got an e-mail from J5 with info on getting into the maps.kbg file. Ian forwarded the mail to Nisha here and added his thoughts on how the retrievers are doing, and asked for help on the "quartertofour" file.

Ian is in Memphis and likes BBQ. =)

EDIT: ian calls the file "quartertofour" but the name of the file is "quarteroffour.zip".

I pretty much agree with you Rose - I just have not time enough at the moment to follow and post the way I'd like about this.
Anyway, that would be 1) very consistent with Virgil's egocentric, twisted brain, and 2) damn cool: Virgil being the "puppetmaster" of all the things happening to Ian&Nisha. Virgil manipulating peolple and things just to "play" Nisha (he seems quite obsessed for her, and I bet iit's gonna get worse). Like the game he's designing is not the ordinary laracroft-style videogame: it's the game he's playing with Nisha - or, using Virgil's words, the game that is playing her. A game and a metagame. Jeez...

Uhm... like in 3:45 ?

"threefortyfive" is not the password anyway. Bugger. I'll leave to you mothertongue folks to try some variations on that... Wink

Ian calls Nisha and they have a little spat over why he took a detour to Memphis instead of going straight to Atlanta.

New email from nivra to Ian about the ppics.zip file and the location of the American photos (Macungie, PA).

edit - fixed link & spelling of nivra's name

Oh, by the way, I sent the other photos to a couple of guys who live in Florence, maybe they can help us to locate the exact spots.

New e-mail to Nisha from Ian. He'll be posting a list of everything we've done in less than an hour. Are we finally winning him over? Or is he going to expose all the stuff that we've been reading that perhaps we shouldn't have been reading.

New e-mail from Ian as promised. He still doesn't like us (or virgil) much.

About the Florence photos: courtesy of some Florentine friends, we got an exact location for 2 of the photos.

DSC0094 is: Piazza dei Giudici n. 2 (a guy went there personally to confirm);
DSC0095 is Via del Castello d'Altafronte (still waiting for visual confirmation but it's 99% sure).
The other 3 pics are harder to identify, they're just, well, doors... But I guess they've ben taken in the same area.
If you look at the map I'm attaching, where I have marked the two spots with red dots, I think there's no need to say what major museum these two places are very close to... Wink

Journal entry by Nisha. It seems she is a little suspicious that Ian is hiding something.

No, you're not the only one Rose. He could be setting this all up as the plot for his game.

Just something I came across today. There are other hints that I can't immediately put a finger on.

Interesting spec. Full of possibilities.

I just got home after a really long drive, and I was thinking the same thing.

She mentions in her journal that the thinks Ian is up to something, possibly shady. The fact that the security for their website has gone to the dogs, and general noises that she thinks Ian may somehow have something to do with what is going on with the car.

What if Ian is in cahoots with Virgil...

What if the story is really that this is all a set up to be a viral campaign for Virgil's new game?

(An ARG within an ARG? How Shakespearian!")
