[UPDATE] April 15th

New IRC chat between Ian and CG:

http://iannet.lastresortretrieval.com/ian/001227.html

Ian is searching the computer for a bug but is trying to be careful to avoid the system being wiped. He also says Nisha figured out where the car will be via "social engineering". Ian needs to do some research on the site.

Related to this, one of my emails yesterday included this:

Quote:
Relax, mate. You'll get through this. I'm pretty sure you've got a bug in the computer, the same one Nisha has in hers from Audi. It's transmitting your GPS position. You could rip it out but if you think the Gunter hacked the system to wipe with any changes you'll be stuck with it.

I am guessing Gunter put the bug on when he added the encryption software -- probably so he could find the car again once he got out of jail (or so that his associates could find the car for him).

That means it could be part of the same program Ian's trying to preserve, meaning there's really no way to get rid of it.

SD cards *do* have a write protect switch (meaning no wipes could occur, the GPS could be unplugged, etc.) but the decrypt software would probably refuse to work if it was on.

Bad IP address

the IP address that Ian talks about with CG can't exist. The subdomain of 260 is too large, the values must be between 0 and 255. But let's just say he mistyped it, all of the IP addresses 13.XX.XX.XX are owned by Xerox-PARC in Palo Alto, close to SanFrancisco but not L.A.

I live 15 minutes from Palo Alto... you think it is related? or is this OOG too?

Edit: just looked up CG's IP addy here and it si an IP addy for Marina del Rey... which is in South California... which is a long way away from where I am...
