I caught the evasiveness comment too. My first thought was that they somehow weren't being replicated but stolen. My second thought was that someone here was sending information on "what's hot" and sources aren't being revealed yet.
Of course I also caught the second unexpected mention of Alice in Wonderland pop up in less than 24 hours too. Maybe I'm just short on medication...
I'm all for the puzzle bars though, and that's no speculation. Anybody finds one let me know. First round's on Jeb!

wild spec i know- but seeing as we've talked about sentinel articles echoing real life, could the evasiveness be a reference to Brett's evasiveness when asked questions? (as discussed here http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=142048#142048
just throwing it out there, though i've kinda already dismissed it! [/url]

Okay, maybe we shouldn't look down this line (the brett one), since those bloody halloween tentacles scare me greatly...
On the other hand we have the brett links with the evasiveness and the alice in wonderland... I wonder if his play.com job is full time, or whether he has time enough to run a shop...

I suppose it could be.
But let's be objective here:
Aside from that, the hard-coded strange "counter" numbers on his pages, the apparently magical submission of the ambigram to a blog he didn't know about by a character he addresses by name as real, the Alice in Wonderland DVD of the week on one of his other sites, the links to Rubik's site, his hobbies of gaming and web-design, to include mazes, etc. There's really nothing suspect at all.</sarcasm>
(Just for sake of logic, the Rubik's reference along with the thought they might start using places/people who'd already been set up both came from the old Syzygy ad, talking about how it's a combination of games, including Rubik's Cube, and how the new immersive game they were creating would "change everything" implying they'd play by a new set of rules.)
I'll go with the assumption he's completely OOG, and I have no problem with that. I'm still checking out his sites and his friends' sites, but not for Perplex City, but because there's some awesome stuff there. (Especially some of the other ambigrams one of them has. You'll have to find it yourselves though, I'm not about to get in trouble for naming somebody else here, even who's obviously OOG. And no, not even a source view there, just some interesting artistry.)
I'll respect that it's a dead end, and if it's not someone else will have to figure it out later, it won't be me. But to act as if there's no reason to even suspect he's IG is just silly.

Maybe Mr Alba is being evasive because he's been stealing the items from earth having somehow found a way to get things from our world to theirs (and presumably the other way round), which would make him a prime suspect for the cube theft if it turns up over here. Perhaps the entire thing was a grand scheme to boost his sales somehow, by bringing earth to everyone's attention when Sente announced he was enlisting our help.
Maybe he's perfectly innocent salesman who just doesn't really want to talk much.

As an aside:
The author of this article is named Foster Liddell. The young girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland, etc was Alice Liddell.
Interesting.

Geologists Plan Survey
Geologists at Perplex City University are designing a low-cost submersible probe to deploy in Alchemy Bay to create a highly detailed digital map of the sea bed. "Maybe we'll find a few of those old silver Leks in a ship down there," joked team leader Lucas Sevig. (Full text)
It looks like they definitely have a seaside then, and had at least boats and silver coins.
But for me the interesting thing is that there also seems to be a University, so we have a third academic institution in the city...what's the difference between the Academy and the University? And Marmalejo College for that matter.
The Academy to me seems to be something a bit different...more like a research institute.

Personally, I'm a little more concerned about the implications of the phrase "reality researcher". Let's assume that we don't find the Cube quickly. Somehow I don't think that the Academy is going to stop doing research on alternate alternate realities. Suppose they do find another reality besides ours, we'll call it Penny. Isn't there a chance that because of their inherently trendy society that they would just call off the Cube hunt, say "Thanks, but you guys took too long. We're going over to Penny now".
I'm worried Sente and Scarlett are going to get bored of us.

I'm not going to get into the whole Brett thing - I think the truth of that will become apparent some point in the near future. I'm going to focus on on what my interpretation of the relationship between PC and Earth is.
Alternate world. Pretty much given, this one. The similarities to our own are just too great to be parrallel evolution on another world - PC has to be in an alternative reality, running alongside very close to our own.
"I practically live over there." I think this is more true than we know. It's my impression that Lyssa and the rest of her team can actually move between the worlds. I think this is Project Syzygy - the attempt and exploration of moving between our worlds. Part of this is the research of our culture (eg shoes! )
The gateways. These are most likely physical security gates in PC, gateway 24 being part of the Academy's research area. However, it is possible gateway 24 is actually the connecting portal between the two worlds. It's possible all of the gateways act as 'windows', too.
Scarlet's comments about not being able to get things across confuse me a little because we've already been told the Cube was transported from PC to Earth. And why does Lyssa need to get a cobbler to make up suitable shoes if she can't cross over to Earth? The point of those shoes is to fit in and look like everyone else. If she wore PC fashion, she'd attract attention.
They have to have known about or world for a while now, measuring in years. I don't think there's anyway to make an estimate over how many but it is likely to be related to the discovery of the Cube in PC. However, Earths existence was doubted and nay-sayed by some scientists and the media of PC, as the Sentinel's editorial retracts a statement of scepticism on the subject.
OK... that's enough of me ratling on. Sorry to disturb you. *Bows*

Interesting.
Probably nothing, but (OOG) - Adrian Hon studied in Oxford I think... AIW has many connections to Oxford.
More likely just allusion to the whole AR/through a looking glass thing.

That got me thinking, what was scarlett wearing in her illustrations? Seemingly a denim jacket and normal top (tho orange top with red hair... :S) Are their fashions actually all that different to our own, I realise we haven't seen any PC shoes, but on the other hand they have cobblers who are able to make earth-style shoes... Something just isn't sitting right with me about all this, just thought I'd share my ramblings...

It could be the weave, or the material prevelant in their fashion. The illustrations don't give a great amount of detail. They might have strange accessories... the keys they carry (I imagine a kind of memory-stick sized implement) would have to be camouflaged... false ID made... *Thinks* I'll get back to this.

In the emails over shoes, it just sounds like they've been studying earth and really like the shoes here. They want to wear shoes in PC that are amazing and stunningly different from the norm there. That they talk about trying to get them paid for by expenses, which surely they wouldn't if they were actually using them to come over here for work, it would be perfectly easy for them to get them paid for.
Furthermore, I would say that they need to get them made in PC is further proof that the Academy can't bring objects from earth to PC, it would be a lot easier to walk into an earth shoe shop and buy them (assuming they have a way to get money I suppose, but I'm sure they can think of a way of making some) than to have some made up.

Pineapple - I was refering to her comments in today's Sentinel story.

I understand that the emails are about just wanting to copy our shoes, of course. Just... well, her comments in Sentinel seemed to suggest she was coming here to me. Just another interpretation.
