at this point it wouldn't surprise me if the message was projected onto the moon's surface, visible only to those who can see it at the time. Fits in with wanting/requiring a worldwide group even if it is a bit unlikely.

I looked through a calendar of astronomical events for 2005 and there wasn't much going on for Friday, April 22 so I chose the meteor shower because a write-up mentioned Sagan's movie.

The log is different too. I now fully accept that Kermeen and Noi are two distinct names.

EDIT: Uh, I just checked the sentinel and someone changed the logo back! The Latin is 3 words again and the names to original order.

Very Happy lol, they realised the mistake, either someone in game made a mistake, or someone wasn't concentrating when making the image.

Anywho, they have a corrections listing saying that the academy crest was incorrect on 18th April.

They announced the change in the corrections page of the sentinel, http://www.perplexcitysentinel.com/corrections/. We should compare for differences.

I think that we don't need to worry about the timing of the event for the moment, because in my opinion, the 'leak' was introduced to create hype for the event, and to make sure that we all check our email for anything new.

I don't think Sente was counting on the leak to get information to us, if the event is so important, he will address us like he normally does, through laconic and cryptic messages.

I was going to post the Corrections ... but I have the wiki logo url here.
The names were in a different order:
Noi, Adamek, Kermeen, Delaney, Zeller, Carrick, Taversen

and the Latin is too hard for me to read the letters. Anyone? And all that stegging stuff too.

The Bull reference

Quote:
It's like I used to tell my sister: if you're going to head south, make sure you bring the spray. If you mess with the bull, you'll get the horns.

This could be a reference to the Merrill Lynch bull statue in South
Manhattan - just off Wall Street.

The three words of latin translate roughly as "beginning of the search for wisdom". I've forgotten what all five mean. Do a search, it'll be about.

The Latin said Quaesitum Quaerere Sapientiae Initium est.
Mikey J got a translation = "investigation to seek wisdom beginning is " which made me wonder at the time if they got the quote wrong. Then I thought - maybe MJ just used a dodgy translate page. Then I tried to find one (Babelfish don't translate Latin). Then my boss asked me to do some fracking work.
Bugger.
What stegging stuff?

Ran Stegdetect on both the old logo and the new one. On both I get a message saying the test was skipped because a false positive was likely. This keeps happening even when I whack the sensitivity right down to 0.0001.

I was wondering if it's possible to run some sort of comparison on the two pictures. Running something like a binary sum wouldn't work because the two files are slightly different sizes, but perhaps superposing one over the other might reveal something exciting. Or perhaps nothing at all, but still worth trying. I'd do this myself right now but I don't have the s/w at work.

As for the bulls - everyone seems to be focusing on just a few of the futures. There's no indication that these ones are any more or less important than any others so I don't feel that we can accurately extrapolate meaning from a single mention of bulls. Besides, there's lots of bulls out there; just off the top of my head, Manchester had a city-wide art exhibition where various artists decorated bulls and they were left all over the place for drunks to climb on and then gracelessly fall off (or maybe that was just me), and a steel works in Sheffield next to the M1 (Aveda?) has (or had) a big steel bull outside as it's logo. I don't have any reason to think either of these examples are what we're looking for, nor do I think the bulls people have mentioned are connected in any way other than just being bulls. Sorry - it just feels like apophenia to me.

'quaesitum quaerere sapientiae initium est' translates again to 'inquisition is the beginning of seeking knowldege', or something along that line, it isn't much different from just 'quaerere initium sapientiae'.

Yeah, like they'd found a better, more appropriate form of the phrase. Why tho, would it turn up after all this time - you know what I mean? why would it change now - given the (presumtuous possibly) announcement of the date of commencement of core game?

At the moment I can only think of one way that the error could have come about. That is, the person in charge of images selected one of the earlier versions of the motto/letterhead, and didn't realise until today that they had made a mistake. The possibilty of the error being in game is less plausible since the acadmey has existed for a long time in their reality and you would be too stupid to not remember the motto correctly.

Unless the error is some sort of message for us......
