Probably not required and/or redundant by now, but I thought I'd post my translations of the mottoes here (no one else here studied latin?):

quaesitum quaerere sapientiae initium est - the one I like best is "To ask a question is the beginning of (knowledge/wisdom)." Also could be "To seek that which was sought is...," "To obtain that which was sought is...," "To investigate the question is...," "To desire the extraordinary is...," "To think over (ie, meditate, plan) the question/that which was sought is..." etc etc.

quaerere sapientiae initium - "To (seek/search/look for/ask/desire/require/examine/think over) is the beginning of (knowledge/wisdom)."

The Latin said Quaesitum Quaerere Sapientiae Initium est.
Mikey J got a translation = "investigation to seek wisdom beginning is " which made me wonder at the time if they got the quote wrong. Then I thought - maybe MJ just used a dodgy translate page. Then I tried to find one (Babelfish don't translate Latin). Then my boss asked me to do some fracking work.
Bugger.
What stegging stuff?

Ummm...not me! My translation would have been dodgier. I think it's probably a genuine error, they uploaded an earlier version of the crest which they hadn't sorted out the latin on.

Edit: on the bull front there's also Bullring in Brum. I agree with Seej we definitely need some sort of synthesis of the horoscopes if they are a puzzle simply to be sure that what we've cracked is actually there.

Well I studied Latin at GCSE level (and got an A Very Happy ), but that was over 4 years ago, so all my skills are a bit rusty...

It's gotta be a mistake tho - surely I am not alone in thinking that what we have been doing over the last coupla weeks is waiting for the next screen? Or is there still something to crack? I'm both new at this and simutaneously brain wracked and cynical already. I feel like I've been pulling desperately at each individual byte for my whole life... christ knows what the Vets feel like...

As for the bulls - everyone seems to be focusing on just a few of the futures. There's no indication that these ones are any more or less important than any others so I don't feel that we can accurately extrapolate meaning from a single mention of bulls. Besides, there's lots of bulls out there; just off the top of my head, Manchester had a city-wide art exhibition where various artists decorated bulls and they were left all over the place for drunks to climb on and then gracelessly fall off (or maybe that was just me), and a steel works in Sheffield next to the M1 (Aveda?) has (or had) a big steel bull outside as it's logo. I don't have any reason to think either of these examples are what we're looking for, nor do I think the bulls people have mentioned are connected in any way other than just being bulls. Sorry - it just feels like apophenia to me.

I think you're probably right. But taken in combination with the idea that we may find something at the NY public library (the Charlotte's Web future) - going south from 5th&42nd gets you to that bull. Seems to make some kind of sense. But maybe i'm preoccupied w NYC...

Hate to be a nitpicker, but the Bull statue in NYC is at the corner of Wall St and Broad St, not south on 5th ave (a good 2 or 3 miles south). The library does have a copy of Charlotte's Web that I'm going to check out at lunch time today, but I'm not holding my breath for anything.

Well, that goes to show it's important to be precise, especially in an ARG forum... I didn't mean that it was on 5th, which ends at Washington Square. Anyway it's probably a long shot.

brat, just to make it clear, 3pm in London on friday would be 2PM GMT, not 4pm as you thought earlier*(edited)*

I really think "district" is the important word- district always refers to a geographical location, whereas "zone" can imply a marked-out section of a map, ie time zone. So though i think there pribably will be a webcast and/or email, I think something is actually going to happen in greenwich, london on friday at 3pm London Time (BST at the mo). The webcast might even be live from there. so i think its worth going if you can- you won't miss much if there isn't anything there, cos emails/ webcasts can be accessed anywhere. If I can get off work early I may go along, as it's only about half an hour by bus from my dope den.. any other takers?

lol...i should be able to head over in about an hour. It's only 10:45 in the morning here and i just ran out to get a coffee a little while ago.

for the record, the Midtown Manhattan Library that had the postcard in Alice in Wonderland does not have a copy of Charlotte's Web. There is another library right across the street (Arts and Humanities Library) from that one that has the copy of the book (I checked their online catalog). Who knows...at least it gets me out of the office for a little while.

Very Happy
Hi Gang
Error here living in London and getting dangerously drawn into the cubism.
Here are some things from the book that Charlotte did with her web:

http://www2.lhric.org/pocantico/charlotte/chpt11.htm
http://www2.lhric.org/pocantico/charlotte/chpt13.htm
http://www2.lhric.org/pocantico/charlotte/chpt18.htm
Probably Red herrings but some kind of web communication sounds likely to me.
I also posted this to the futures section.
Although I'm a newbie might I suggest splitting the general and updates section into 2 so it's easier to keep track of updates as they happen ? Laughing
Thanks
error
