Is there any way to get into the chat from behind a Uni firewall. Only ftp and http ports are open (8080).

The client works fine for me through the local filter but it refuses to connect to anything. Oh well, I'll be home by 4.00 anyway for all the discussing fun (or perhaps just cussing fun )

You could try to force it through port 80, but then you probably wouldn't be able to view web sites.

I can't get it through a web based client because you still have to go though the 6667 port. What's the theory behind forcing it?

For everyone struggling with firewalls, Unfiction has set up a java client to attach to their IRC channels at http://www.unfiction.com/chat/
Select syzygy as your channel (I'll assume the rest is obvious).

Yes, if you can't get on using mIRC, then you can't use the java app, it's on the same ports. It would have to be on port 8080 for most office and uni computers.
