[UPDATE] new sentinel article 18th April

looks like we're finally getting going:

Secret Kiteway Plans Leaked to Sentinel
By CHO KAPLAN
The Sentinel has received documents indicating that Sente Kiteway's highly secret plan to retrieve the stolen Receda Cube from Earth may soon come to fruition. The documents, leaked by an anonymous source within the Academy, discuss a plan for Kiteway to address some form of communication to a large audience of Earth inhabitants on Friday, April 22, at 3:00pm in "the London time district."

These documents reveal, among other things, that the Academy, working in conjunction with an Earth-based company, has received tens of thousands of volunteers to aid in the hunt for the Cube. The nature of this volunteer effort is not clear, and no specific information about how the effort will proceed was included in the leaked documents.

Kiteway and his staff have come under increasing public pressure in recent weeks to show some sort of progress on the Cube retrieval program, for which the Academy received PCL14.8 million in extra funds last summer. Kiteway has never revealed any specific information about the plan, the use for those funds, or the status of his investigation, citing security concerns.

In recent weeks, City Council member Kyra Anghanda has been agitating for an oversight investigation. When informed of the leaked information, she said, "At least we can be reasonably sure that Sente has been doing something with all of this time and money. I won't be satisfied, though, until we know exactly what."

Council Leader Camryn Scott could not be reached for comment. Kiteway's office released a short statement reading, in part, "We would have hoped that public media could have the sensitivity to show some discretion regarding matters where the public interest is at stake. ... As usual, we feel that the nature of our investigation requires absolute secrecy, and are unable to comment specifically on the progress of our project."

The Receda Cube was stolen in mid-January of last year, and subsequently traced to Earth.

New futures and letters too Wink

Was going to say Grenwich too, or possibly Big Ben Very Happy, Hopefully its a real life meet up, I'll be there. But if it's a 'large audience' maybe they mean the Internet and that the time just means GMT. Either way it seems like we are getting somewhere... but then again I've said that before Wink

well, hurray for everything Very Happy

do you think we are supposed to be working out where / how we will receive this communication on Friday, from other clues in the Sentinel? possibly from some of the more cryptic new entries on the futures page?

For example,

Quote:
Get to the library and ask yourself, "What would Charlotte do?"

Whats that all about?

Quote:
It's like I used to tell my sister: if you're going to head south, make sure you bring the spray. If you mess with the bull, you'll get the horns.

Could be directions to a place in London?

Quote:
And remember, the most amazing journey happens without taking a step.

This could suggest an Internet communication?

Also, good to see there is another H2G2 ref ("When the revolution comes, it'll be people like you against the wall.") and a AIW ref ("Quite lost down the rabbit hole, aren't ya?") - at least they are consistent Razz

Whats up with the letterhead?
It isn't the same one as on the perplexcity page, and the motto is no longer just 'quaerere initium sapientiae'....

I think this is pointing us to the book 'Charlottes Web'. Remember the postcards found in the Alice in Wonderland Books?

The "mass audience" referance may be Television, any idea what program?

Hmm....yes good point. So possibly someone needs to go back to that same library in NY and find a copy of Charlottes Web?

Just to note for our foreign friends, local London time will possibly not be standard GMT as we're in Daylight Savings time.

Other than that, it looks like it's time to strap yourselves in, make sure all garments and luggage are firmly secured and prepare to enjoy the ride Very Happy Very Happy

Now, do we know how to recieve this message yet or will that be revealed later in the week?

I assumed straight off that the "London Time District" was Greenwich too.

And I've got Friday afternoon off work.

Anyone for another shakycam offering?

Well, it could also be radio, perhaps there's a frequency to be revealed later on? Or it could already be hidden in the sentinel..

The new latin text on the Academy Logo translates word for word to

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
investigation to seek wisdom beginning is

Obviously the words should be rearranged somewhat, but the gist is there.

The original translation was

Acquisition is the beginning of knowledge

So it's similar.

Maybe the logo got changed after the Cube was stolen. Interesting.

Your thoughts....?
