[META] My day in Atlanta

Friday: April 15.
I took the day off to prep for the trip. This involved installing new speakers in the car since my old ones were shot and a road trip without tunes goes against the will of God.

First thing in the morning, I sent an email to Nisha requesting more information as to location and expected attire. I had sent a similar email earlier in the week, with no response. I logged on to chat to follow the progress and set up a support infrastructure, and then went out to work on the car. Once the speakers were installed, I checked in again....nothing in email, nothing at LRR.

My concern grew and I expressed it in chat; "I have no idea where I'm supposed to be going." Imbri suggested I email Nisha's recon picture to several Atlanta dealerships, which was a brilliant idea (thanks again Imbri). I shot off an email to the Internet sales manager at Jim Ellis, and then went to pack.

My initial plan was to drive in on Saturday, but was convinced a hotel stay would be in my best interest (thanks Diandra). All packed (shorts, T-shirts, and Tevas) and still no word from Nisha. More concerned, I left a chat message: "Arrrghghgh, I can't leave until I know where I'm going!" then went to mow the grass.

When I returned, I had a new email from.....Jim Ellis in Atlanta; "Yep, that's our dealership here's the address". "Wooooo freaking hooooo!" (Imbri rolls a +1 free meal of choice). I made reservations at a lovely hotel in Norcross which turned out to be 5 minutes from the dealership and went about finalizing my trip preparation (collecting the proper documentation, phone numbers for everyone, addresses, maps/directions, tunes, camera, etc.) As a final item, I forwarded my email to my wife's account, just in case.

By this time it was getting close to 8:00 PM, and getting chilly out, so I scrapped my original attire plans and threw on jeans, sneakers, and a long sleeve shirt. I loaded the car and set off for Atlanta at about 08:30.

Diandra and Rowan kept me informed of updates during my ride. At about 10:00 I had my wife check email. Nisha had sent a reply. "We're hitting an Audi car dealership in the middle of the day, dress upscale like you belong there." "Well, that's just freaking lovely" I thought as my ILB T-shirt and shorts sat tucked away in the suitcase in the trunk. I'll leave out the choice words I expressed upon hearing that news (sorry about that Diandra and Rowan).

Touchdown at the hotel was 01:00 AM. Diandra informed me that Val and Meghan had reported in and that Val seemed to have more information. A 01:00 AM phone call home (sorry about that honey) disaffirmed any further communication from Nisha. Diandra offered to contact Nisha as to my whereabouts, and I agreed.

I dictated the following:
"I have to go shopping tomorrow morning so I have the right attire. But I will be there".

The reply was:
"Great, thanks for getting him the info. He doesn't have to look like a million bucks, just maybe a couple of hundred. Anything but a tshirt and shorts will prob be fine."

"Well, that kills the ILB T-shirt idea"

So the plan was set, it was 2:00 AM and I was going to bed. I flipped on the TV for some mindless wind down.
"My goodness, The Oblongs is an odd, odd show, is that a penis on that poor girls head?"

cont...

Saturday April 16:

Woke up about 7:00 AM, hit the snooze until 8; at which point anxiety got the best of me and I got up to take stock of my situation. "OK, jeans should be ok, belt's ok, my 'good' shirt is nasty from the drive so I need at least a shirt, sneakers may work, but I'd rather change them if I can...yep, time to go shopping"

Clean and sparkly, I went down for breakfast and to determine checkout time (noon, great!). Enjoying some fine complimentary sausage, eggs, and rich dark luscious coffee amongst a gaggle of college kids I called home to get directions for some discount stores in the area. I wasn't planning on paying full price for clothes I may never wear again.

TJMaxx was just up the road and proved to be a perfect location for the acquisition of discount attire. I went through the shirts, wondering what "look" I wanted to portray. "Hmm, black silk, Miami/Cuban, polo..." I took a few back to the dressing room and decided on a knit polo shirt. I found several I liked and was just about to check out when Imbri called.
She would be in the area in about 45 minutes and I was to meet her at the Waffle House then. That gave me time to look next door for shoes and go back to the hotel to iron my shirt and check out. I didn't linger long at the shoe store since their "clearance" shoes were significantly more than I was willing to pay.

Sporting a new royal purple shirt, I picked Imbri up at the Waffle House where she was waiting for me and drove to a Wendy's up the street. I was nervous we'd get in the way when Nisha arrived and didn't want to mess anything up. I forced Imbri to claim her "+1 free meal" and we sat and talked about various and sundry. We still had 1 hour until go-time so I decided to see if I could scrounge some shoes to dress up my image a bit more. I accosted an older couple on the way out the door and asked if they were local and knew of a close by discount shoe outlet. They gave detailed directions to Value City, which I promptly forgot. Luckily Imbri was listening.

"Let's go shopping!"

We motored down the boulevard and I missed the exit as Imbri politely pointed out that "I think that was our exit". U-turn.
I took the correct exit and, followed the directions of my "Guild (not gilled :p) Navigator" to Value CITY! No spice was consumed in the process.

Once inside, we headed straight to the shoe department, where I proceeded to look for appropriate (i.e. cheap) footwear. After looking at some...interesting selections, and being very picky in the process "I'm such a girl!" ("No offence") I settled on a lovely pair of "slides" because a) they looked good and b) they were cheap and c) my dog ate my other ones. Imbri agreed that they were appropriate attire for an Audi shopper. Now a problem, my shoes were brown, my belt was black. "Unacceptable! I need a belt" So we were in the belt section and Imbri holds one up
"How about this one?"
"No, gold buckle, I need a silver buckle, I won't wear gold"
"Ohhhkay...how about this one?"
"No, the shade is too red, I'm looking for more..burgundy....have I mentioned I'm a girl?"
"You ARE!"

After much searching a belt was finally secured and we checked out. The cashier conned me into buying a tube of Mentos with the promise of huge future discounts. I made the requisite "Mentos gesture" and we left the store eschewing the line at the signup place for "huge future discounts". I donned my new acquisitions in the parking lot and proceeded to drop Imbri off at Wendy's again where she would wait for her non-existent colleague to not show up for hours.

Next stop....Waffle House

lol I like your writing style, very descriptive.

Now, if I may make a friendly teasing comment...
You really are like a girl when it comes to clothes.
How was your hair that day?

I'm glad you guys were on our team, you all did a fantastic job, especially describing the events to us. It makes it so much more interesting.
Thanks guys.

Really, though, you don't know the half of it. I'm like that for everything.
I had the top down all day, I was going for that tousseled California guy look.

His hair was perfect.
