here's somthing that i dont think has been said, and probably for a good reason Confused .. ok so im pretty sure i read someone saying something about how the word 'star' was the only word not covored up by somehting at all in ''all star game' so wut if u made a star in the cryptic letter box thingy and like the letters in or around it forms a word.? kinda out there but figured i would jus say it

Just tried typing in 1900222589 on my phone, with predictive text both on and off. Without T9 you get nonsense..but with it on after the 0's i got "BACKTY"...doubt its relevant..just throwing it in for someone to mess with Wink

Cryptanalysis?

I'm by no means an expert, but I've noticed that the text looks, well, too normal for a crytogram. I did a quick frequency analysis, and here's what I see:

I think this might be a word find. Completely not what anyone would be looking for.

There's TEMCO

and GAME FIND in there.

Considering his heavy reliance on numbers, being the key to the truth, I think we have use matrix co-ordinates deciphered elsewhere to get the correct letters in the correct sequence to solve this puzzle.

Solving as a Matrix

The resulting matrix is non-singular, and thus has only the trivial solution to the corresponding homogenous system.

If it was a polyalphabetic substitution cipher (like a vigenere square), then the letter frequencies for the entire dquare wouldn't matter as these are masked by the cipher, and the columns aren't long enough to be conclusive.

The fact that the text can't be read normally means it isn't plain english.

It could be a keyword cipher where certain letters remain unchanged, but that's not proving fruitful.

Like it was said at the beginning of this thread. The vigenere line was taking because it is a 9x9 square, raising suspicion it was a vigenere square with keyword length 9.

Didn't see the point in following the same line as everyone else.

If it was JUST a word search, it would have been solved by now.

Bonusuk- Since you seem to know a little about cryptography (or at least have some software) the ACA page lists some autokeys in deciphering Vigenere, Variant or Beaufort codes. I can't make sense on how to apply it here. Any ideas?

Also, I was under the impression from reading the site, and others, the key is inside the string of letters.

More cryptanalysis?

I've been dinking with the Vigenere idea for a while now (wrote a quick decoder) and I've been doing a little more research and analysis.

According to http://www.trincoll.edu/depts/cpsc/cryptography/vigenere.html, there is a cryptanalysis technique for dealing with this type of cipher (the Kasiski/Kerckhoff method.) The idea is that repeated bigrams can assist in identifying the key length; this hasn't gone anywhere, though, since the few repeated bigrams do not share a common divisor (possibly because the ciphertext is really short).

I've been running a number of ideas originally posted as solution ideas through as the key, and I'm coming up empty. If anyone has a huge list of words that they'd like to throw at this thing, I'd be happy to give it a shot.
