So apparently we have the key already (the repeated sequence).

Except he's tweeted a code we haven't seen before, "45cea2" (shamrock). Not sure what that means in terms of a key.

Well, he did 'begin again' so maybe the first attempt was interrupted?

Just thought I'd share this. I'm finding the Wikipedia list of standard Crayola colors easier to use because the list is sortable. Not sure if it helps. I see some inconsistencies, like the fact that Wikipedia list Black as #000000 and Unmellow Yellow as #FFFF66. That's Wikipedia for you.

8 hex values tweeted, then "##########################" then "Begin Again" before the sequence repeats. Except now there's a ninth hex value in the sequence. Hmmmm.

Another avenue for cracking the code

I googled "Color cipher" yesterday, and I found this page.

http://turing.cs.trincoll.edu/~ram/cpsc110/tutorials/colorcipher/

It looks very similar to the code used by R.U.

There is a download for Android devices that implement the cipher. I don't have any Android devices, so I've been trying to write my own version in Java. I don't have any good way to test if my attempts are the same as the described program.

If anybody feels brave and is able to run the program, please let us know.

That color cipher is really basic.
And the example it gives is horrid because the starting key is so much bigger than the scaling factor.
Basically, they start with 4287743357 and multiply 14336 by the letter you want encrypted (A=26, E=22, space = 0).

If they used this method, then determining the scaling factor and the starting key should be simple.

We can now add

fcd975 Goldenrod
fdbcb4 Melon

I've been using

alongside the Wikipedia list.

Ah- I asked him about that on tumblr last night. (I'm sure other people did too).

Though, MrToasty, since you cracked 'you will meet her by the sea' I don't see any reason why we can't figure out what he's up to before he's done tweeting these colors.

In other words, I say patience, smatience. Smile

I was hoping others felt that way too Smile No sense stopping now.

Oh, lovely, a self-important "narrator".

I agree with Gently. Patience Schmatience.

MR TOASTY, I choose you! Quick, use Convoluted-Code-Breaking-System-Bonzai! (You're a pokemon in this scenario and I don't know why). IT IS SUPER EFFECTIVE!

Now, I have two questions:
1) Was the typo in the word YOU intentional?
2) Is it disrespectful to the PM to push onward after he or she has specifically asked us to wait?

Who wants doughnuts? I'm buying.

I am thinking if hex color codes ruartist twitted are letters of alphabet that are missing from first sentence.
It is obvious that cipher is simple substitution since II and EE letters cause that hex color is also doubled in cipher text. So one hexnumber decipheres to exactly same letter every time.

Code:
FCB4D5 y   y  1
008078 o   o  2
414A4C u   u  3
5A75CE w   w  4
86A968 i   i  5
FF6B84 l   l  6
FF6B84 l
6E5060 m    m  7
6BAE80 e    e  8
6BAE80 e
FF5E4E t    t  9
FFA086 m
6BAE80 e
00ACD8 b    b 10
DBD7D1 y
FCB4D5 t
FF5E4E h    h  11
6BAE80 e
FFBCB3 s    s  12
6BAE80 e
F21F4A a    a 13

1dacd6 ?    14
dbd7d2 ?    15
232323 ?    16
ee204d ?    17
1974d2 ?    18
fdfc74 ?    19
414a4c ?       U  (already used in previous sentence)
ff1dce ?    20
45cea2 ?    21
fcd975 ?    22
fdbcb4 ?    23
fd5e53 ?    24
c5e384 ?    25
6e5160 ?    26

If he adds another code my theory is destroyed.

Missing letters from first sentence are :

Code:
c d f g j k U n p q r v x z

(U was already used in previous sentence)

I dont think there is any anagram of it, but we must find out how ruartist decided which hex code to assign to each letter.

The colours so far with crayola names up to the time of this post

@ bambusar - Great theory! It had occured to me too that the 26 #'s RU tweeted might indicate that we're getting a whole alphabet here. I guess we'll wait and see.

Minor correction to your work: it's YOU WILL MEET HER BY THE SEA
but I don't think that jeopardizes your alphabet theory any, in that it still works out to 26 letters minus the repeats.

Here's bambusar's (awesome) work with corrections:

Code:
FCB4D5 y    y  1
158078 o    o  2
414A4C u    u  3
5D76CB w    w  4
87A96B i    i  5
FC6C85 l    l  6
FC6C85 l
6E5160 m    m  7
71BC78 e    e  8
71BC78 e
FD5E53 t    t  9
FFA089 h    h 10
71BC78 e
1DACD6 r    r 11
DBD7D2 b    b 12
FCB4D5 y
FD5E53 t
FFA089 h
71BC78 e
FDBCB4 s    s 13
71BC78 e
EE204D a    a 14

1dacd6 ?       r (already used in previous sentence)
dbd7d2 ?       b
232323 ?    15
ee204d ?       a
1974d2 ?    16
fdfc74 ?    17
414a4c ?       U
ff1dce ?    18
45cea2 ?    19
fcd975 ?    20
fdbcb4 ?       s
fd5e53 ?       t
c5e384 ?    21
6e5160 ?       m

Letters missing from first sentence:
c d f g j k n p q v x z

EDIT: Updated so that hex colors are consistent with Crayola colors and those on the google doc. This changed the count a bit, so if this is what's going on we can expect a few more tweets of colors that we haven't already used.
