[TRAILHEAD] Wonder Scouts
Scouts Wanted

I noticed this image posted over in the /ARG subreddit: http://i.imgur.com/mqCI9mF.jpg?1

. . .which led me to poke around the internet for Wonder Scouts, which led to:
    * a Facebook
    and
    * G+ page which features a number of juicy and bizzarre tags like: #wonderscouts #prescience #peril #adventure #beyondargs #nextgen #transcentience #canyoufindthedoor #thesoundofsilence #beginhere #kidsaresmarter, and on another, simply #endoc

According to themselves:
Quote:
Wonder Scouts exist to become, discover, rescue, and encourage wonder, in mutual excellence, beauty, learning... and mystery.

As best as I can tell, the story has something to do with a non-human intelligence which has accessed the internet and used it to transmit "active transgenic psytext" into people's minds, effectively infecting them/evolving them, for some as yet unknown purpose. I'm not quite sure yet if the Wonder Scouts are encouraging this or fighting it.

Since they did post one quote from it, it might be worthwhile to take a look at Will Ludwisgen's short story "We Were Wonder Scouts"

Oh, and there's a few posts about locked doors, which I can only presume we must open somehow. Smile

So far, there are two straight-up codes/puzzles on the FB page which seemingly remain unsolved:
Quote:
Although we do not exist, we can offer some extremely vague guidance in the form of the following code, if you manage to decode this, kindly let us know.

I don't normally play games using FB, but I shot them off an email just to see where it goes. Apparently, I should't expect to receive a reply until I do. . . something, according to this G+ post:
Quote:
WS Operations Update

We receive many queries from the curious, from spectators, from parties interested and obscure. We have no comment. If you have sent us an email and have not received a reply, you have received a reply. Please enjoy your continued position of passively abject decrosimility.

(They also tend to use made-up words quite a lot.) I think they want us to impress them before they make contact. Have fun!

Interesting. I've sent off an email, awaiting response (or not, perhaps).

That first code, the only thing I can see is that there's a sort of pattern. So far I see:

aB1EcDve2fgIh3ijDkY4lemeRpN5dFcfr6qEGsf7otucRv8RwigHx9TbDyZ
aiB1cDDe2nfgh'3ijkYt4lmeRhp5dafrP6qGspf7teucv8RwgHxn9TbyZ

aB1cDe2fgh3ijkY4lmeRp5dFfr6qGsf7tucv8RwgHx9TbyZ

...it's the alphabet, vaguely. Maybe some kind of code in the letters that don't follow "order"? But the alphabet is kinda fucked up, at least in the first one, it goes aBcDefghijklmRpnqsotuvwxyZ.

...I'm so confused. Looks like no Wonder Scouts for me just yet.

Looking for patterns in that string of text and then finding characters that don't match the pattern gives you the following:

WTG on the solves, MrToasty and GuestUser17. I had a feeling y'all would make short work of it.

Now on to the problem of being ignored. WS posted this on G+:

We have received a number of emails, nearly all of them lacking essential features of obvious or covert transai. Kindly use the appropriate address, and tell us in detail, what Wonder Scouts is, should be, might be, must become, or could transcend. This makes it sound like they want a bloody application essay, but I feel like they are expecting something else. A codeword, or something like it perhaps?

I answered in the comments,

You can't be ready, but you can be brave.

Which is the last line of Will Ludwigsen's 'We Were Wonder Scouts'.

It may be just a coincidence but I just sent that phrase typed out in wing dings to thisreplySPLAThotmail.com yesterday with the subject 'wing ding dong'.

No official reply yet...
