Considering Steinitz's love of chess, I'm imagining we'll fill an 8x8 grid with these.

and maybe the Steinitz Press logo. There seems to be a disagreement over this on the Puzzlers forum.

What about a crossword?
Seems unlikely since the squares are purely alternating white/black, but it just came to mind.

grid letters? I'm wondering if this spectrocraniometer is a made up piece of machinery or a real one. Googling the word only brings up this game reference, so I'm leaning toward made up. If it is just an in-game thing, then could the
be another grid of numbers to go with the others?
And what are the other letters and numbers for?

grid I think that the letters from the machine are definitely part of the grid.
Also, it really helps to see them together ( thanks T_L) because it is easier to see where the parts will fit. It seems to me that the alternately pattern, which resembles a game board, must be preserved, so we need to fit the red/white grid ( natalies) in a different spot. or perhaps these are two different boards?
any more grid like letters floating around??

I can't put them together to spell it effectively, but there are defitiely the letters there to spell "Dagobert," and they ALMOST match up if one moves diagonally... almost.
It seems to be one "I" short for spelling "Steinintz."
I can't imagine how this could not be trout, but I didnt' see it here anywhere.

Here's the grid arrangement I've been using. Just realized that I hadn't posted it yet.
