 [DEAD SERIES] NatureTRAILHEAD
The First Dutch Slenderman Series

When I logged back on Slendernation I saw that the threads of two series I have been following where closed done by the same director.

I then saw a new thread it seems like the creator of projectbigfoot1 is changing series quite fast but.. yeah anyways he asked me if I could post it on the Unfiction forum.

Here is all the stuff he had to say about this.

Quote:
So yeah I got quite some explanation to do here lets start off by apologizing for stopping "The Bigfoot Project".
The reason why I had to cancel it which I really hated was that my friends who wanted to be involved didn't want to talk english.

But I had this feeling inside.. that I could not stop doing slenderman vlogs so I showed them TEA13TIME and asked them if they wanted to make a slenderman series in our own language which is Dutch and after uploading I would give it English subtitles for the most of my Projectbigfoot1 and they accepted

So after a little while of thinking about how our ARG would start.
We decided to use the classic Forest introduction.

So yeah without furthe ado.

I hear by introduce you to "NatureTRAILHEAD"

I hope you will enjoy this series as much as we love making videos.

And here is the first Video

Note that this series is full Dutch. but is subtitled if you turn annotations on
This might a problem for viewers using there mobile phone or tablet

Doing subtitles in all caps is a horrible idea. I get that English is not their first language but they're also really confusing. I mean I watch shows/movies with subs all the time but either their conversation is covering five topics at once or some of the subs aren't actually there/some of the lines aren't actually subtitled.

Also immersion, what is immersion? Does immersion even exist in the SMM anymore or does no one give a crap? "HEY GUYS I'M MAKING SERIES COME WATCH."

Anyway. Yea. The subtitles are really confusing (there are lines that have no subs for them- even if they're not imoortant it's fairly annoying to not be able to understand the whole conversation and so far I just can't get past even that.)

EDIT: Okay, so the video went quiet. Better than loud distortion. The tree shaking was a nice, if small, scare.
Their SM isn't too bad.

Eh, I'll give it a shot I guess.

No, the subtitle idea itself is fine, it's just that the subs themselves aren't very well done. There's a reason that there are fansub groups and not just one person doing it by themselves. Subbing is confusing work, normally it's someone with the native language as the first and English as a second who translates most of it and then sends it to someone who has English as a first langugage and the other as a second to help clear up any mistakes in the subs and it goes back and forth and then a proofreader makes sure that the English version is grammatically correct and such. (this is what I've seen fansubbers/fantranslators do, anyway. I don't know about professionally at all)

It's just not really grammatically correct and IT SOUNDS LIKE EVERYONE SHOULD BE YELLING REALLY LOUDLY and some of the lines (like whatever Aaron says when he's in the tree...) aren't even translated which is hella annoying.

The subs themselves are fine. If I knew Dutch I'd love to help translate...

The unaccented "WHAT THE FUCK?" at the end was hilarious though.

So, uhm...

Has it already been said that the subtitles are done really badly? And I don't just mean how they are written -- they seem to appear in random places on the screen. It's just...weird. And then there is the question of why they even have subtitles? At least Tea13Time slightly addresses this. Here, the video just has random subtitles for no apparent reason whatsoever.

I'm not a big fan of the Slender Man appearance, or the seemingly complete pointlessness of the video, but that's just taste.
The lack of character development bugs me, though.

And, finally, the immersion aspect. What is immersion anymore? I'm starting to be glad that I stick on Unfiction, since at least here we have basic rules about immersion. .

I can't say bad things without offering some positives, though. I definitely like the fact that it's in a different language, as it lends more to the feeling of realism character of the series. And, while it might not be something that I'd watch, I'm sure that others will enjoy this series.[/i]

While this video is fine, it put into stark relief the things I enjoy about Tea13Time's presentation and performance. This did not feel "natural" in its dialogue, and the subtitles were generally unpleasant to read and poorly typed. And, yeah, Tea13Time has some light explanation for why they're posting to a wide audience.

Not giving up yet, but can't say I'm thrilled for the future either.
