I understand this; I can even respect it -- their boards, their choice -- I am merely a visitor here. But does kind of piss me off when I see the same set of trolls doing the same tired schtick over and over, when nearly every one of us who've been here any length of time knows (including the mods) that these are trolls, and nothing ever happens except that newbies who don't know better are scolded for posting in fake threads. It seems a bit... off to me.

I never claimed it was a good reason. However, it is the reasoning given to me by the admins of the site, to whom I must defer. The most recourse I have as a moderator is to delete, close, or consolidate obviously fake threads with no substance and request spammers be banned from the board.

The admins ban linkspammers all the time. However, when you start getting accounts that use multiple IP addresses or proxy services, it becomes a game of whack-a-mole that we will always lose.

But again, that's not what this thread is about.
