Ill try and get the handwritten note pic up. The envelopes have no info or return address. My address is written in the same hand as the handwritten note.

I am just brainstorming out loud here so it's probably nothing, but could the writing on the tag be a reference to a waypoint? (like in geocaching)

A search for 2270.14 E yielded this:

http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~dunigan/wpt02/m.php?wpt=227

Like I said it's probably nothing, but if you are anywhere near Haw Ridge Park in Tennessee, it might be worth checking out.

So I received two more journal pages, again in a sealed manila envelope as the last set inside an unmarked envelope from Canada.

Here is the text and an image of the drawing at the bottom of one of the pages

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We have arrived! Days spent surrounded by the crates of our equipment trying to keep some manner of comfort in the cargo wagon of a freight train got us most of the way. The rest was done on foot, dragging our gear on the sleds provided by the Eskimo. Thanks to our guide the journey was one of beautiful stillness and awe-inspiring scenery. Neither McHollister nor I have been this far North and the region's landscape takes my breath away. Interestingly, our guide took us within eyesight of our final cargo, and then refused to take a step further. He maintained the silence and impassiveness that had marked our entire journey with him, but without explanation makes it clear with gestures that this was as far as he would go. We tried in our broken Eskimo to determine the reason of his reluctance, but he simply shrugged and walked away. No mind, we have arrived and our base camp has been erected. We will have a warm meal and a cup of coffee from our new Primus stove, and then to bed. Tomorrow we break ground. I shall have difficulty sleeping with the anticipation.

I suspect I'll be getting more pages in the near future. I'll keep everyone updated.

This is irrelevant, but is there really a need to use spoiler tags, since you're the only one getting these letters? Smile

Anyhow, this is interesting and great that you'll keep us updated even though this probably isn't an arg.

Searching 2270.14 & LVS

What I found when searching "2270.14" was an address (2270 14th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94116)
The other thing I found is a (John Deere 2270 14 foot platform with steel conditioner)
as for the LVS I found Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) on E*Trade and (LVS.N) on New York Stock Exchange.
I'm sure it's nothing but thought I should post it anyway.

I can stop posting the info if people want, but I think this is a slow lead up to an ARG. Just let me know if folks want regular updates or else I'll hold off until I have an ARG like puzzle that needs to be solved.

Oh, and I'll ditch the spoiler tags. I was erring on the side of caution.

What intrigues me (though i know for 100% that its not related) is all the little clues that are very simular to the old "The secret world" video game ARGs - "A friend" was one of the characters, the story was about exploring and digging Antarctica to find a gate to the center of the earth "Agartha" with Roald Amundsen. http://wiki.crygaia.com/view/The_Photo

as i said, i know its not related - but it intrigues me non the less.

In my opinion we need to find this "website" as they have sent 2 parcels now, and we have not moved further on.

daaaaaaaaaaamn i want this to be a good arg Razz

edit: having a quick look for artic expeditions around 1913 (100 years ago) came up with Canadian Arctic Expedition 1913 - as its coming from canada it could be something to bare in mind... though looking through the crew list i cant find any McHollister... infact looking for Mchollister on google doesnt bring up much at all

Yes, please keep posting! If this ends up being something we can join in, I want in!
My skills will probably end up not being that useful but I read and write Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. It was probably just for fancy seals, but if the languages come up again
And I have family ALL OVER Ontario.

EDIT: And that way-point posted is near where I grew up (Knoxville) which I go to regularly...

I suspect I will keep getting pages, two at a time, until the story of the expedition is told. Then I expect a clue to the website (at least I hope so).

We shall see.

Dangit, I get sucked back in for this.... Rolling Eyes

Wondering what we (or just DrTachyon, as it were) should make of the specific mention of a Primus stove. I had to google it but apparently this would be part of the normal kit for an Arctic expedition c. 1913.

And what about the drawing... what's the ship? Is that the target of the expedition? Where the heck is it - I might think of an icebound shipwreck in the Arctic Ocean, but the ship in the drawing looks like it's in water, not ice.

What's that sleeping animal? I figured sled dog at first, but the letter specifically states they had to drag all their stuff themelves. On foot. Which just sounds weird to me for some reason (based on my wide knowledge of snowy things gained from living here in the Deep South). As in, they took a freight train "most of the way" (how far north did trains go back in 1913?), then had to walk the rest, dragging their sleds. I dunno, I still would think you'd want to hire dogs if you could. Maybe none were available... and yet there was a train stop there.

*brain goes round in circles, then asplodes*

I guess we could also try to figure out what kind of ship that is. While we're waiting and all. Three masts, 7 square sails... yeah, I got nothin. Sad

Oh yeah, "tomorrow we break ground" - so they're definitely digging. Not just hopping over to board a ship trapped in the ice. Still, that is not a 1913 ship, right? Urg.

Actually yes it does look like a 1913 ship, except one extra mast http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Karkuk_whaler.jpg - also break ground was a term for landing the ship in the ice afaik, like arriving at their destination.

i still think the most likely expedition is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Arctic_Expedition_1913%E2%80%931916

Yep, you're right about it not being a 1913ish ship. I found some of that stuff after a little more searching but by then I'd updated my email address on here and inadvertently got my account inactivated. That's what I get for being gone so long!

I'll keep an eye on this one - it has lots of potential imho.
