I really don't get the criticism for the flipping off slendy scene? It was something that took balls to do, and they pulled it off really damn well. It didn't even look hokey or contrived, it was well done and I'm so happy they took a risk like that with something so untried in slendervlogs. I really love how TribeTwelve breaks the mold with every video.

Because it makes Slenderman not scary. Why should I be scared of something that Firebrand casually flips off? That's not to say a character being unafraid of Slenderman will always destroy the horror but a line is drawn somewhere. I'd say having Slenderman get mocked like that and then even seem put-off by it is way over that line.

1. There's MUCH more to the series than scares.
2. The scene wasn't mocking Slender Man's scariness because there seems to be a canonical REASON for him not to attack. The finger flipping wasn't the reason he didn't attack, it was a consequence of something else preventing him from acting, which was heavily inferred by Firebrand when he mentioned the journal's immunity and Habit's intervention in the DEUS EX MACHINA video. While parody videos make by 'Slender' fans mock Slender Man because they are primarily trend jumpers that exist to make fun of him for views, TribeTwelve had Firebrand giving him the finger because there is something preventing him from destroying Noah/Firebrand. Firebrand basically said that he was invulnerable due to the journal, making Slender Man more dynamic by not being able to touch something... which just so happens to be an existing motif in TribeTwelve ever since the journal was mentioned to be untouchable. And that makes the head tilt less of a known expression and much more of a mysterious gesture - considering we have no idea why Slendy didn't attack, which is frightening in itself not to know why. TribeTwelve is more complex and thought out than you think, and when the creators have the balls to pull off a scene like that so well, it just makes the verse that much more interesting to me. Some may be against giving Slender Man limits like that, but I think if it's done well it can make for an even deeper and more dynamic antagonist. To be perfectly honest, an all powerful antagonist seems inherently boring.

hold on have to go change my pants

i for one liked the flipping off of the Slenderman, sort of showed there's a little Noah in Firebrand.

however, no talk of Deadhead? we'll see what role he plays soon, i hope.

I agree. Plus, didn't Zeke Strahm of the Seeking Truth blog flipped him off too and spat blood at him or something along those lines? He was a badass and did similar things, but where was the outrage? Confused

That's great post!
And I think it gives a bit of insight into how a good series keeps going through creativity.

This, I can't wait until Deadhead makes another appearance, him & Swain. They're both so mysterious & I want to know more about them. Plus Deadhead just looks so awesome.

I loved the Slender-Bird scene. My previous favourite scene was the end of Device Findings, where Noah said he was going to kill Slender Man. Love this character's determination to win. It's a huge, welcome change from every other 'herp derp what should I do' protagonist in the Slender verse. Laughing

For me, any action in a series is acceptable if it's consistent with the character and his motivations. Let's face it, Noah is the kind of guy that upon finding out Slendy couldn't hurt him would ABSOLUTELY flip him off. We've seen elements of Noah's personality in Firebrand before ("You're fucking welcome!"). Think of everything Noah has been through, the emotional and physical wringer he's been put through. He has nothing left. How cathartic must it be to look a demon right in the face and give it a big FUCK YOU without repercussions? Noah wants to win. He may be the most determined protagonist of all the Slendy-series. I thought it was a fantastic part of what has become a very well-done, character-driven Slendy series.

Who'd a thought a single finger could cause such controversy.

I dunno why it stirred up so much outrage, it was perfectly in character.

This controversy is about as crazy as the ending to Lost.

I'd day the most obvious is either the date of his first video or the date of Milo's death.

Since the combo is likely a code, can you tell me why you think your combo is numerically significant? I don't want random numbers.

Probably the date of upload or something to do with the year of his death/ year Noah accidentally put down before he edited it. Could even have something to do with video length. Thoughts?
