The issue of time compression vs instant change is answered for us in this video - watch the shot where TO is in the tall grass. Within a couple of seconds the shadows from the sun move across the ground towards TO in manner which would normally require hours. This explains why the light through the windows goes from midday to sunset as they walk out of e bedroom to the basement.

The Operator has had a face in #40 and #43, and he has it in this entry before turning to look at Tim. I don't think it's necessarily something specific to attacking, because he seemed pretty nonplussed in 40.

He also sorta has it in #6.

Regarding time distortion.

You can clearly see a difference between shadows when Jay and Tim are outside. Compare 0:19 and 6:25 and there is a massive discrepancy, and that's before we see TO in the tall grass.

My take on it is a production flaw, I think it is irrelevant to the story. There is two cuts in between the aforementionned time period and they haven't pointed that out like they did in the basement.

I subscribe to the instant change, door teleportation theory.

Well, my first reaction when checking this was going all "holy shit, you're right".
But then I thought it might just be distortion making the image darker. As in #44, when TO appears inside Alex's bedroom and the image gets darker and darker until it's almost pitch black.
I still want to believe it's time compression, though. That would be awesome.
But I really don't know. Confused

One thing that makes me think more in the "door teleportation theory" is that the first time they open the basement's door, it is really dark inside. I mean, it obviously was going to be darker than the rest of the house, but when they open the door it is so dark that you don't even imagine there are windows down there. Well, I have never seen a basement with windows before, so I cannot really say how dark should it be. Has someone had/been in one so can tell us if I'm wrong?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Even if this shot is clearly made during the daylight, they could have covered the windows with something to make the basement look darker even during the day and then remove whatever they used to cover the windows while shooting the night scene.

My house has a basement with half-windows and a "cellar door" external exit. (I couldn't tell if that was the case here, with a cellar door-style exit, or we were just seeing time and tape distortion covering how they actually made the escape, but it does look like you see a door down there.)

In the daytime, there is enough light to navigate the basement and at least see decently what's there. I wouldn't want to try to read in most spots, unless I was near a window with good light on that side of the house, but I can pick out most objects, find things, etc. It would have been easy to tell that there was nothing in the basement - barring maybe a piece of paper in a corner or something - without any flashlights.

It's possible that they didn't know there were basement windows and so expected it to be dark. At the start of the video, the side they enter on has no windows to the basement. It's probably built into a slight incline, with that side of the house being the high side, and the small windows in the basement being on the other side of the house where (presumably) the land slopes down somewhat. A cellar door entry would have an opening just dug down next to the building with stairs leading down.

I don't know if anyone already pointed this out, but around 9:10, when Tim asks Jay what time is it and they turn around and TO shows up you can hear someone saying something, like a loud whisper or something slowed down, can anyone make anything out of that or i'm just hearing things?

An element that hasn't been pointed out in this thread is found at 11:53. Right before going ahead and facing TO, Tim says to Jay "Hold On". I think it as a lot of significance in the debate whether Tim decided to stand off with TO or he was drawn by the latter through mind control.

I definetely support the theory that Tim decided to face TO in order to protect Jay. Another element to weigh that idea, pointed on the Reddit thread, is where TO's face was looking at Jay and then TO's attention gradually switched to Tim, suggesting, once again, that Tim decided to face TO to protect Jay.

I really want to know what was recorded on that GoPro now.

Don't we all. Laughing

Anyways, hi everyone! I've crawled out of the hole I was lurking in, and have returned to the forums.

As everyone else has said, this entry was one of the scariest entries we've had in a while (when TO appeared in the field, it was a definitive "oh shit" moment that was much like some of the moments in the earlier entries). Hopefully we'll see more of those in entries to come.

OOG:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When I saw that TO had facial expressions in this entry, I though back to some of the original pictures that Victor Surge made of Slender Man. Cool little coincidence, eh?

The answer given by Victor Surge in one of the links you posted (Slender Man House Call): http://oi43.tinypic.com/2n8ngvo.jpg

Scared the hell out of me for some reason.

Did anyone else notice that when Jay stops running, a few moments before Tim's encounter with Oppy, you hear a pill bottle rattling followed by the sound of him swallowing and gasping for air? It's when the camera is facing at the ground and he's not running...

I think you mixed some things up. I do indeed hear the pill bottle, and him swallowing, but "him" is Tim, not Jay.
If I'm not mistaken myself, it is Tim holding the camera, looking for Jay.

Jay handed Tim the camera (why? Who knows). But Tim took the pills.

But still turned into his Masked state (at least we can assume from the way he limped over to the operator).

I think Jay handed over the camera so both of his hands would be free to climb the fence.
But yeah, Tim took the pills. And WAS in his Masked state.... so what the hell.
