More rage about university: in some days I'll have an English Oral exam where my English pronuntiation will be tested.
I know it is necessary to test my oral skills, but what bothers me is how in the heck am I supposed to practice and improve my pronuntiation in Spain? Even my English teacher this semester was from Spain and his pronuntiation was quite disappointing! Am I supposed to talk to my wall? I don't really think it helps because my wall can't correct me ¬¬ And I feel even more upset knowing that it is a Spanish man who is going to decide if my English is good or not. Cursing

I have yet to have an English teacher with an acceptable pronunciation.
Yeah guys, Spain.

To the people having issues with oral English. Get you some friends on skype, who are native English speakers. Then, talk to them repeatedly. Smile Or do what that rowcow guy does on youtube. Make let's plays and ramble on in English about nothing because you are wanting to practice your English. Smile

Those are great ideas, but if I had any English speaker friend to talk with, I would be doing it already Sad
(The 'let's plays' is a great idea, seriously. Saddly my laptop will explode if I play and record something at the same time xDDD Thank you anyway, Puppet Very Happy )

You could always try an emulator and some old school games. Or Rom hacks. Smile

Well, I wasn't exactly saying I have much trouble, just that it seems to me that anyone here can become an English teacher. When I stop to think about the one I had when I was like 10 years old, I seriously can't understand how they let her teach with that pronunciation. Oh my God.
Anyway, I try to practise as much as I can, actually rambling as you said, but just to myself. Almost like thinking out loud. I'm careful not to do that when someone may hear me, though Razz
And well, singing. I'm sure that helps a lot.

With a touch of Skype, I could help you polish up that Southern drawl in no time, y'all.

You don't need to make let's plays to ramble on. I do that anyway, but that may be due to the fact I watch too many let's plays anyway

Well, I DO rumble on too, but I don't think it is the same as talking to someone x)
And as Jiime_6 has said, I guess singing helps also, but, I wish I could have a conversation in English with someone from time to time.
I guess I will have to keep doing it alone and run the risk of people thinking I'm crazy xD
(Well, they'll wouldn't be that wrong...)

Don't worry so much. There are plenty of people who speak English natively who can't pronounce words correctly. Wink

Accents and dialects are a bitch sometimes.

XD

Which of course, raises the question of which kind of English pronunciation our Spanish friends are expected to speak. (I mean, if I were to get on Skype, you'd end up sounding like... well, maybe I'm not the best example. I don't sound like anyone from around here.) The point being, are they looking for British English? RP? I could probably try to approximate that, but then again, you might end up sounding like Monty Python... Laughing

I would die happy sounding like Monty Pythons Laughing how can anywody be as funny as they are? xDD
Well, just kidding, but they have a clear pronuntiation (at least for me). They don't really care about from where our pronunciation is. Britis, RP, American, Irish... everything is ok while it is understandable, I guess? I think I've got a ridiculous mixture of RP (or something like that), American and Spanglish pronuntiation Embarassed At least I can say my pronuntiation is better than other Spaniards' is... Anyway, I wonder if you could understand me xD

The listening tests we take at school are British pronunciation, and that's the one they try to teach us.
In my case, however, the English I learn at school is about 10%, or less, so my pronunciation ends up being a weird mixture of all the ones I listen to on the Internet. I'm pretty sure the MH guys have actually had an influence on my accent. Which means it is totally American, but I can't really say exactly from where.
Whenever I have a new English teacher, I always love their faces when they first hear me speak Laughing
