Damned, too late.

I typed all the text (by hand) to finally find out someone posted the solution in the meantime Laughing

You know that you can change the source code to see the text without going the single letters?

Oh cool! That's why they were pointing towards "Style" in the quotes, I guess. Thanks AUZ, learning a lot thanks to this game Smile

Hi Amandel,

you are not the only one who is already infected. I had a look at sequoya google+ page and guess what picture of what animal I saw first? Shocked

Off to Sleepyville, AUZ, but must admit I <3 the idea of 'savvy sequoya' as a patient-zero...she DID appear at uF again after an unknown-where-hiatus. Laughing

I have written:

Hi Richard,

thanks for your kind reply.

It was some hard work to code the algorithm. That is also one of the
reasons why I hesitate to send you the cource code. Why will you need
the code and how can I be sure that the code will not be used by you
for commercial or other purposes I would not be happy with.

Somehow it is still unclear for me what Avecira Solutions is really
doing or what Project Toilworn Diamond is about. If you give me some
more information about your project(s) it is easier decision for me.

Best

end got this reply which includes a new puzzle:
Quote:

Hi AUZ505,

I appreciate your efforts with the algorithm. The face you produced looks really good! I understand your concerns, but I assure you that I will personally take care of the code. It will only be used in Toilworn Diamond. The project will some day be the biggest thing in technology worldwide, and your code could be part of it!

I'm sure you understand that without the source code, your face challenge submission is just a nice picture and not useful at all in our project. However, it proves that you are very skillful programmer and definitely able to solve difficult problems. That being said, maybe you can help me with another problem while you reflect on the positive sides of sending me the source code?

I accidentally fired a person recently who was taking care of a very important piece of text. This is a very delicate issue, so I'm sure you understand that the result should never be seen by anyone else, if you are able to find it. However, I haven't been able to solve it myself, so I turn to you.

I rummaged through all the things that the person left behind and I found this from his notes:
MD5: b2193e96ec41acc4330ed490b7ba09b9

I also remember that the text has 7 letters and starts with a letter 'N'. But that's all I know. Do you think you could help me with it?

Best Regards,
Richard

I can think of two possibilities: the most straightforward is to find which string N?????? sums to the MD5 hash, but perhaps the MD5 is a red herring? I think it's possible to convert the hexadecimal value into a string, maybe this is an alternative...

I checked some some MD% converters online, and none could decrypt this file, but this was very unlikelly anyway...

Using brute force seems unfeasible (creating every combination of words and checking if the MD5 hash matches), so perhaps there is a way of "decoding" the MD5 if you know the first character?

Tricky problem for tricky AUZ! Nothing MD5 online coughed up anything for me, also. Am consistently trying to find ToilWorn Diamond's Achilles Heel. Richard mentioned that his data-mining device was called "Precious", an anagram of res cupio (I want things). Capitals are mine as it may be an interesting avenue for us ALL to explore.

Richard Exaltego in an email wrote:
'Precious' was a working title that was never meant to be public. It describes how special and meaningful the project is for me, but I never though anyone could dig up the other meaning hidden in the name! You truly are a person with a sharp mind! Collecting data (or things) about people and building up the register is very essential part in the project.

I appreciate your warnings and we have taken different threats into consideration. I know that the data we have collected (and will collect) is really valuable. Another thing that worries me is that some people don't like the idea of a register with detailed information about them. Of course that kind of opinions are totally groundless, because we will use the data only for their own benefit! Nevertheless that kind of people exist, and I could be in a big trouble if someone revealed the whole content of our project! That's why I can't stress enough the importance of trustworthy collaboration partners like yourself!

I have also created a little backup plan in case everything goes wrong, but hopefully it will be never used. It would destroy all the long and hard work, but at least I could save myself from the accusations of those ignorant people…

Brute force revealed it:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

NOTJIVE

No idea what it means. Isend the following message to Richard. I hope he likes it Wink

Quote:

Hi 18-9-3-8-1-18-4,

you said that the answer should not been seen by anyone. Since we both
know that all information on the internet might be processed and
stored and used in many different ways (especially if you look at my
email address Wink ), I was not sure if I should send you the answer in
clear text.

Therefore here something that you (or someone at your company) should
be able to decode easily:
14-15-20-10-9-22-5

Does this mean anything to you. For what reason do you need the text?

How long did it take to check everything? Did you try every combination of letters after the N and checked if the hash matched?

If so, did you stop the program once you reached the first match? Its possible that there are more seven letter words starting with N that have the same hash, perhaps one of them makes more sense

EDIT: Well, the chance of two 6 letter string having the same hash is about one in 10^36, so never mind that.

Beaut AUZ Rock On Am just offering for consideration that it may complete the earlier msg phrases: THEY CAN DIVE BUT (NOT JIVE)...

ETA: Possibly this relates to code debugging and it's this JIVE http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/jive/ and this DIVE http://eclipsediver.wordpress.com/

My google trail ended up leading me to read about Hawkeye, the world's only scuba diving cat. I think your suggestion is probably much more sensible. Laughing

(Yeah, I got nothing, sorry.)

I think the backup plan Richard told you about definitely sounds like something we should pursue. Perhaps Beth or Hubert have heard whisperings about it, I wonder...
