Artistic interpretation?
The brilliance of Kevin's mind expressed in the digital world as he wills CLU back inside himself?
Or maybe my best answer...
Not worth fretting over?

The film cost $170 million to make, and has just grossed a bit over $171 million. Yay for profitability!

...or getting uber-analytical, why does the data card visibly pulse and audibly pulse? What size batteries does it take? Razz

Its the size and shape of a unicorn tear, because that's what it really is. Its power is infinite and so is its compactness.

uber-analytically, i thought about using an smd led peering out of a pinhole found at the triangle portion of the tray. someone at rpf suggested using a cr1216 battery, which is thin enough and just the right diameter to fit right behind it. audible pulse might not be practically possible. a diy work in progress still in the research stage. Well, according to this article: http://www.soundonsight.org/%E2%80%98ispec%E2%80%99joseph-kosinski%E2%80%99s-commercial-that-helped-him-get-the-job-to-direct-%E2%80%98tron-legacy%E2%80%99/
$170 million was spent on the film and $120 million was spent on a 3 year marketing campaign. I'm guessing that includes the ARG.

Although I don't think ticket sales will cover the $290 million price tag, I do think it will end up in the black after all the DVD and merchandise money is counted.

Also, in the article is a link to Kosinski's commercial for iSpec that apparently helped him get the Tron job.

It confuses me when people start talking about Encom's servers where this movie is concerned. While Kevin got caught in their machine in the original movie, He recreated the environment on his own hardware and got lost, again in Legacy. If Kevin's hardware were connected to anything more than the phone line needed to call the pager, we'd have Clu pulling the whole Colossus/WOPR/Jobe Smith thing in the real world.

Far from it. I'm sure they'll make much of $290m, after all the toys, collectibles, licensing, games and whatnot. And I think the DVD/BR will sell very well for home viewing. It kind of shot itself in the foot by advertising IMAX 3D so much in a controversial 3D market, instead of encouraging people to see it in 2D just as much, and it smacks to me like one of those movies people will eagerly, eagerly await the dvd release. At the very least for collecting as well.
They may very well market the hell out of the dvd release too tho Razz

Two new things I noticed

In Sam's place by the river, in a few shots, you can see Kevin Flynn's old Ducati off to the side. It's white, and it appears to definitely be run down.

At the end of the movie, when Alan walks out of Flynn's Arcade, he's very visibly wearing tennis/gym shoes. If you go back and watch the original, I believe there's a good shot or two when he's either heading to or coming from talking with Dillinger, and he's got the prototypical programmer outfit: cheap sportcoat, simple shirt & tie, business casual pants, and gym/tennis shoes. Nice touch to see that even being on the Encom board, he's still rocking the programmer gym shoes. Nope, I'm wrong. Lora is wearing them. Alan is being a good corporate worker and wearing his dress shoes.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Also, in the flashback sequences when Clu is ambushing Tron/Flynn, there's some digital noise effects on there when combat happened, and I could SWEAR I saw a flash of digits on the screen. We're going to have to wait until the DVD release to catch that frame by frame.

I just came home from another screening of the movie and I'm not sure if this was mentioned or not, but I noticed something that could be a subtle nod to the ARG.

In the beginning of the scene at Sam's place in the shipping container there are 3 photos stuck on his fridge, and they are shots of him kickboxing. Now, it's not the same photo used from the site http://amazoncapoeira.com.br/quem_somos.htm but I'm pretty sure it's from the same photoshoot.

And seeing as his martial arts training was not mentioned at all in the film but was relevant in the game, I'll take it as a nod to Flynn Lives.

Link to photo of the original TRON's "big door".

The original 'Big Door' was shot on location at Lawrence Livermore labs. That door was truly truly huge. This door - while definitely big - was a hollywood facsimile.

I could be wrong. It could be the same door - and the lighting and camera angle could have been different, but I don't think so.

Here's a link to a picture of the "big door" shown in the original TRON: http://www.flickr.com/photos/llnl/5795116114/ When it was made, it was (as the caption says) the world's heaviest door on a hinge. A safety requirement was that it be so well balanced that a single person (in this case a secretary we used) can open in.

(I hosted the crew for their four days' filming at the Lab.)
