Musical ratios

CNM, whenever you get around to it, could you possibly identify which scale is being used in the robostep song? I think the ratios of the notes in the melody might hold an answer. i know i've heard this ascending scale before somewhere, and also the bassline sounds like a four on the floor blues progression... let me know what you think, you're probably light years ahead of me in music theory, but i do know a little and might be able to help you.

OTP22 Music

Part of the reason I think there's something to the notes is that there have been pretty consistent references to "tones" or music. Specifically, in one of my long phone calls to Material Order Desk, my good but long-lost friend Robby mentioned his ABISM modem being "a vectortone" modem. I wasn't familiar with this term, so did a bunch of research. There isn't a whole lot out there (and what is out there is buried under the mountain of references to vector graphics). In particular, one of our players (nadando) has decoded those "vectortone" ABISM sounds (which can be heard in the background of every call to MOD). The tones translate directly to console output. It needs to be said that it doesn't look like the musical transcription will reveal a direct message ("ALOHA OTP22 PLAYERS AND URMOM!"). Instead, I believe the output will be significant in regard to something else -- much like you need a text to XOR against for all of the Black OTP messages. And therefore I'm asking anyone interested in the music to give some thought to what this significant thing could be, i.e. what's the lock for this key?

One link of interest is a Wikipedia page describing the internal vector of music: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-relation

Another is a PDF describing something similar: http://whatismusic.info/chapters/whatismusic-5-vector-analysis-of-musical-intervals.pdf

Thanks again to anyone giving us a musical perspective on these "tunes"! Don't hesitate to pop into #ARG if you have questions or comments.

PSK31 guitar Transcription
(from http://dialer.otp22.com/2013-06-24%2003-45%20UTC%20-%20202-999-3335%20-%20674826.wav)

Transcribed all the notes, disregarded the rhythms. Also disregarded some octave jumps

May have more to do with the intervals (amount of semi tones/half steps) between the notes than the note names themselves?

Omitted the "Pluck" non-note you hear twice during the recording (one at the beginning, another at :46

BELOW is a jpg of the transcription...

Also, here is the Grid view of my midi editor - if you want to count the intervals manually....

INTERVAL OF KEY CHANGE FOR THIS SONG:

I - bVI - natural VI - V - bII

(in C major, you have C - Ab - A - G - Db )

Thank you VERY MUCH for this. You've done us a great service. Smile I also want to thank you for being so thorough in explaining what exactly you have omitted. That will help us in the future if we have questions about the transcription itself. Thanks again! Very Happy

FYI, The volume on each event (maybe v=?) is arbitrary, makes no difference. But the note (n=?) is where you can determine intervals, etc.

@drawbars
thx yes i know voluome is not exact, also time intervals arent percise, i just used that format since it is better for processing, but so far i didnt find anything apparent in it (didnt even try very hard to manipulate those numbers if i am honest)

this is examople of message hidden in midi format from some other game:
http://pastebin.com/UpPsi6jn <--example of cipher hidden in midi song, but i dont think we have same thing in our case

04:31 <L0j1k> and i will comply
04:39 <L0j1k> in global response codes, A33815 is Anchorage Alaska
04:39 <L0j1k> 2022042303 is "unavailable"
04:39 <L0j1k> 888-854-2402 is classy tango
04:40 <L0j1k> wtf
04:40 <L0j1k> i just got a fucked up message on 303
04:41 <L0j1k> "250.075 selected, please wait for sync"
04:44 <L0j1k> here are two recordings... the first is what i am getting constantly, a direct message when answering... the second on the same recording is me dialing an agent code and getting the same message afterwards... so... yeah, sorry for the silence in the middle
04:44 <L0j1k> http://vocaroo.com/i/s1ak5q2IQAq8
04:46 <L0j1k> i'm going to drop my name and shipping address on message desk if it comes up
04:52 <L0j1k> okay, now i just got the "MD redirect" on the second ring from a unique inbound number to 303, like it was previously
04:53 <L0j1k> i HIGHLY suspect MD is about to come back onlin
04:53 <L0j1k> online*
04:54 <L0j1k> and that was from a number that i had used previously, so it appears that the MD system might have been completely reset, and will now redirect all new unique numbers on the second inbound ring to MD, even if you used it previously
04:55 <L0j1k> interesting that 303 also now immediately disconnects any attempt to dial an extended DTMF tone ("A B C D") instead of accepting it like before

Hey all. I'm just posting the specifics from the IRC log since people are asking for a summary.

Code:
06:01 <L0j1k> 202 is all fucked up
06:02 <L0j1k> there's definitely something new on it
06:03 <L0j1k> it's a "fast warble"
06:06 <L0j1k> alright boys and girls... without further ado...
06:06 <L0j1k> i give you: FAST WARBLE!
06:06 <L0j1k> http://vocaroo.com/i/s0pwTxYT48XE
06:08 <L0j1k> shit
06:08 <L0j1k> it changes
06:08 <L0j1k> i mean, the LENGTH of the audio changes
06:08 <L0j1k> it still warbles, but sometimes it doesn't change to the upper tone for longer
06:09 <L0j1k> here's a second recording of fast warble, but this time, notice that it takes much longer for the second higher tone to kick in
06:09 <L0j1k> http://vocaroo.com/i/s0iGQ7djD2BG
06:10 <L0j1k> okay
06:10 <L0j1k> fast warble does NOT respond to DTMF A-0*#
06:14 <L0j1k> seems fast warble does its first tone for about 12 seconds, then flips up to the higher tone, then that higher tone goes for about 20 seconds, then it disconnects
06:14 <L0j1k> here is a third recording of fast warble:
06:14 <L0j1k> http://vocaroo.com/i/s0KBpHFdmxjc

06:59 <L0j1k> the fast warble tones change
07:01 <L0j1k> they are higher now than they were previously
07:01 <L0j1k> i'll upload a recording when i'm done with this call
07:03 <L0j1k> here's a fourth recording of the fast warble, at a higher tone:
07:03 <L0j1k> http://vocaroo.com/i/s0MMWea0SsSD
07:04 <L0j1k> whoa, the recording i have now is SUPER SUPER long... 30 seconds of the first tone, then 26 seconds of the second! i'll upload it for posterity
07:05 <L0j1k> here's a fifth recording of the fast warble
07:06 <L0j1k> http://vocaroo.com/i/s0k4L9h2Sxmj

08:26 <Braco> so its never consistant when called twice?
08:27 <L0j1k> it feels like it was on teh second and third
08:27 <L0j1k> but i can't be certain
08:27 <Braco> hmm
08:28 <L0j1k> one time i called without recording it and it felt "familiar" since i watched the times
08:28 <L0j1k> (12 seconds to tone change, then 22 more seconds to disconnect, which had happened before)

Message Desk is back:

Recording:
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0XHYBKRJsD4.

A33815 is ZERO.

MD answered after warbles. Transcript: warble, "message desk", background talk at 3:50, "A33815 is ZERO" at 4:40.

Unexpected, it should ask for names.
http://otp22.referata.com/wiki/Message:07/12/2013/18113/08:19

So we are not sure what A33815 is supposed to be.

In the Global Response book (PINK BOOK) location for code A33815 is Anchorage.
