[OT] The 2 Tone Game
puzzles, codes, fun places in San Francisco

I just heard about this, I have no other info, and I won't be playing it myself, but I figured it might be of interest to those of you playing other puzzle trails in San Francisco:

http://www.2tonegame.org/about/game
Quote:
The 2 Tone Game consists of some activities. These activities are puzzles, codes, or stranger things. You "solve" each activity to find a solution: a word, name, or phrase. When you enter that activity's solution word, you "unlock" more activities.

Some of these activities, you can solve wherever you are.
Some of these activities only make sense at certain places in San Francisco.
Altogether, there's about a dozen activities.

You need to login to play, it seems, from their home page http://www.2tonegame.org/

ok so far this game is pretty interesting but i have to say i don't understand the whole points thing for hints. i don't see anything about the point system anywhere on the site so i donno if using points counts against my final score or if i have a cache of points that i'm unknowingly taking out of. i ended up using all the free hints at the march task because the end clue didn't make any sense to me (and still kinda doesn't because i can't recognize languages easily.) and i accidentally just spend 80-something points on a hint because there were two before it that were free. at the very least the people who're making this game need to tell the user what the points mean or else they won't use the hints at all and stop or they'll use them whenever regardless of point value because it doesn't mean anything...

also i found this:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/eve/1686797259.html

it says the 11th-25th? is that the actual time frame or was that just a date they put in arbitrarily because CL makes you put down one?

anywho. i guess i gotta take a trek uptown now...

I have some behind the scenes info which might be of interest. It's a discussion from/by/with the PM about the pacing of the game, and things he has observed from the server logs and watching players at various locations. He begins with "(I don't think there are any spoilers here)" but I'll hide the links so you won't be so tempted to click right away.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First, there is this blog post which is an excerpt from an email exchange. Then you can scroll down his Twitter account for random comments, which might be closer to spoiling specific locations, but no puzzle solutions (that I can see).

"...i donno if using points counts against my final score..."

Yep, that's it.

"...a date they put in arbitrarily because CL makes you put down one? "

Yep. Congratulations, you have solved the Craigslist event listing puzzle. :-)

"need to tell the user what the points mean"

Points mean different things to different people.
