[Trailhead] There is only one Writer
Found in the ARGFest swag bag

Apologies if this is known to be part of another game. I looked but didn't find anything.

There was a USB drive in my ARGFest bag. It contained a folder called "greetings" which held the attached four images, this video, and "useful.txt" with the following urls:

Quote:

http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/dq.aspx
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/mm.aspx
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/az.aspx
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/dwh.aspx
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/bec.aspx
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/eo.aspx
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/cs.aspx
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/rw.aspx
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/pm.aspx

Near the end of the video at the bottom it says "Paragraph by paragraph, word by word, letter by letter" which suggests the numbers in SCN004 are a book cipher, but there are only nine stories linked in the txt, and twelve lines in the cipher, so I'm not sure how they're meant to line up.

I assume that the cipher is going to lead to a twitter account (the obvious bird in SCN003), but since the video says November, I guess there's no rush?

I only meant to peek at this one, but HP Lovecraft. May have to poke at it more later.

Just a thought. With the code being on the back of Dreams in the Witch House I would guess that's the one you use to decode the book cypher.

Anagram?

This looks interesting.

Used
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dreams in the Witch House
for a decode on the book cipher.

I managed to get the following:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1, 141, 1,2 = shook = SH
2, 77, 2 = last = A
4, 107, 6 = unpeopled = P
7, 34, 2 = direction = I
8, 27, 12 = mathematical = L
11, 106, 5 = vampire = I
15, 7, 4 = vortices = T
19, 134, 4 = space = C
18, 38, 1-4 = fourth-dimensional = FOUR
40, 73, 2-5 = slippery-looking = LIPP
7, 6, 3,4 = size = ZE
5, 119, 1,2 = room = RO

So -
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
SHAPILITCFOURLIPPZERO
. What on earth does that mean?

Obviously the numbers
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
four
and
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
zero
feature, so they could be taken out?
The rest of the letters could be an anagram?
You can form 'Phillips' with them, which is suggestive given the HP Lovecraft theme, but we are left with
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A P I T C FOUR ZERO
.

I'm afraid I don't know Lovecraft very well - anyone help?

Nashman (In Defence of Summer as Iris)

Spoiler tags, Iris, spoiler tags!
But anyhow, I got pretty much the same. What to think of it? I don't know. I do think it's a twitter account because of the obvious hint, so I'll try to find it.

Oh, shoot, I didn't mean to sound so harsh. Should've used emoticons Razz
But, yeah, when you solve a puzzle, it's usually put in spoiler tags so others can try to solve it on their own.

Well I found something that may be it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There is a Antarctic Treaty Consultative Parties AKA (ATCP) found in an article here http://www.cambridge.org/asia/catalogue/catalogue.asp?isbn=9781107020825&ss=exc Also it is mentioned page 7 of this Pdf http://fds.oup.com/www.oup.com/pdf/13/9780199697687.pdf

Now it may be nothing, but considering Lovecraft wrote one of the great Antarctic stories, At the Mountains of Madness, it may be something.

But how that helps who knows.

also

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Although incomplete and probably going down the wrong track, I found

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you ROT "lipp", it translates to "hell". Add that to "zero" and you get hello (kinda).

If you ROT "itc" you get "ten". Add that to "four" and you get 10-4.

Using the left over letters, in order, you can also ROT "fun" and "had".

Making the whole thing say "fun had 10-4 hello".

Which is a very unlikely solution.

I found this comment on the youtube video that you linked.

What a fascinating video Mr. Tonamel. Did you make it yourself? #SHAPILITC4LIPP0

That doesn't sound right.

The hashtag code corresponds to the deciphered code Nashman88 posted, with only a slight difference. Logic dictates that this 'Jeremy Nigellus' person is not Nashman88, nor anyone following this thread. Looking at the profile of this person, the account was made on 1 August. Two days after this was posted.

Well it's somebody following this thread. That's an unlisted video, and the only place it's linked from is here.

It could be the PM dropping a clue because we hit a wall and he didnt want it to die before it started?

That's about the only thing I can think of. Though I wonder if we just missed something in the clue and they ran with it, or if they chose to make it hard.
