Wait wait wait!

Looking at Markiplier's let's play channel it seems that there's a new level released in the latest version!

EDIT: Looking at the video it's just a remake of the original game, but when Slender Man cataches you he says "I have plans for you Kate."

It's also in the exact same text font as used in the "secret" level.

So....what plans does Slendy have for Kate? Personally I'm sticking with the "Kate = Proxy" theory as being Slendy's plan for her, which makes more sense than the "proxy is talking you in the secret level despite never appearing."

That this is a brand new level that has more work put into it than the "secret" level, and is selectable from the main menu, whilst still being a good tribute to the original game.

Wait, is it a remake of the original, or brand new with a lot of work put in?

I'm just asking questions because it is going to take me forever to install the new version. But this could be the first legitimate evidence at the proxy's identity. Doesn't really explain WHY she is proxified, though. Does Slenderman just do that to everyone?

Though Slenderman talking does raise questions about canonicity.

It's a remake from what I've seen. Pretty much exactly the same layout but with new textures to make it look like the rest of the game.

Just played it, & yeah, that more-or-less describes it. Pretty cool, but not much of a "finale" or "after credits" scene.

It is called "Genesis," which to me means one of 2 things:

>The Genesis of of the Proxy.
>The Genesis of a new story.

I think of the 2nd option only because it is positioned as the last level, but that could simply be because it was too much work to arrange the displayed order of the levels.

Well I don't think he is talking. It is likely a kind of telepathy. Since SM has been known to alter the mind. And he needs someway to communicate his will to his proxies.

I always thought he communicated through a series of tentacle gestures and sublte movements of his head. Or that he really isn't communicating with anyone and the proxies are just insane.

Seriously though, a lot of works have had the Slender Man "talk" to characters without actually speaking, so I'm not going to disgard this out of hand.

Still, they could make it clearer. Especially since this is all supposed to be shot from someone's camera.

Edit: I like how they make a level that most likely IS explaining the origin of the proxy, & there's no discussion of it.

I have an incredible hate for Parsec Productions for both gaining money off a free idea and not giving proper thanks to the Granddaddy of Slendy, Victor Surge.

When you want to make a game or novel off an idea that's floated around the web or media for quite awhile, you give credit where credit is due, damnit

You better hate this forum because we all helped beta test it.

Edit: They did give credit where credit is due.

And not to mention, the removal of the mythos section for the final game. Now that I think about it, why the fuck is this thread even alive and allowed to live on this board? This board is about discussion of ARGs and series of the slenderman mythos. The game has nothing to do with the mythos or any series/ARG. The irony is that the game, while being inspired by the mythos, gives all the others that laid the foundation for it so little credit. It really sickens me that this was allowed to happen.

Surge's name is plastered all over the game.

Do you send ABC angry letters for using "free ideas" about fairy tales for Once Upon A Time? Do you picket every vampire or werewolf movie for using those "free ideas?" What about Dynamite Comics, or Alan Moore for using public domain characters in their comic books? Posting bad things on message boards about them?

The reality is that Surge had a germ of an idea, that looks very different from what SM is today (He had a face!) and he wisely put that idea into the public domain. If he had kept a stranglehold on it and insisted it was his property from the start it would have died in it's cradle. Instead, the other posters at SomethingAwful, and Troy and Alex and the EMH guys, and all the other hundreds of creators out there grew the seed and reshaped it.

Just because Parsec is one of the only people to figure out how to successfully monetize it doesn't make him evil.

Also, it's worth noting that Surge GAVE Parsec the rights to the Slenderman, and allowed them to make money off of it. So it isn't like Parsec used someone's concept without permission...

What do you think he did, advertize his game all over the web?

No. In fact, Parsec didn't even want to make money when he made his game. The original Slender was made as a way for him to learn how to use the Unity engine, and maybe as something for the community, nothing more. It wasn't until a different user suggested the game to some major Let's Play-ers that the game was popular. After that, people started asking for a sequel, it had a huge fanbase/market... How can you blame him for taking advantage of that? It isn't like he asked for money or fame when he made the first game. It just kind of happened.

Finally played the secret level, as well as "Genesis". Yeah it took me that long to play the secret level. I think my game was just buggy until I updated it. Wouldn't have been the first time a bug screwed me over, this time it kept me from getting into the secret level for 5 months. Did I mention this game is way too buggy? I am slow on realising that Genesis was added though, I guess I let things like that slip off my radar when I think getting into a secret level requires extreme luck I don't have. I will talk about my thoughts on both levels in this post. First, the secret level.

Now just to fully clarify you don't need to walk by the swings or turn on the radio or any of that crap. Hell you don't even need the flashlight, though it may be useful for having any clue of what's in front of you while looking for the poster. Simply pick up the poster, go to the menu then back into the level again, then repeat picking up the poster two times. Before I updated the game, I never even had Lauren comment that she'd keep an eye out. It was a very good sign when I finally was seeing that.

General thoughts:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Very creepy level. I kept gravitating towards Kate's room so I guess I wasn't playing by Slendy's rules. It was really cool feeling like I was playing a video game edition of MH Entry #23 as well, with all the teleporting through doors.

Speculation:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Right off the bat, I didn't feel like I was playing as Lauren. I felt like this was Kate's encounter with the Slenderman before "Flashback", which made her start closing all the windows and doors. As for whether it comes before "Genesis", I'm not sure.

When the text appears saying "I'll find you instead", we start hearing those all-too familair growls. At first I was petrified I would see Growly again but I didn't. Then I thought... so if Growly's not appearing, where the hell are those noises coming from? What if they're coming from the character themselves? That's the conclusion I came to and it was pretty creepy, I think. Only thing is, "I'll find you instead" is a strange choice of words. If it's still Slenderman, shouldn't it be closer to "Now I'll find you"? "instead" makes it sound like something more than that changed... maybe it's just me. It just seems to imply a different person from before is now playing with the character.

Finally at the end, the player character is burned, presumably to death. This keeps very in line with CR's death by fire, the forest fire and one more thing. Ever notice how Slenderman looks like a burn victim in this game? Maybe in this game, he enjoys killing people with fire because of something relating to his origin. Which leads to pretty unfortunate implications for how CR went out. Maybe he wanted to use fire to kill himself and Kate because the Slenderman was getting to him more than he realised?

But honestly I'm not sure who the player character is simply because of the burning. I have my doubts it's Kate since she looks fine in "Flashback". I'm not so sure it's Lauren, it feels weird having such an alternate ending for her which is just a less interesting death. Maybe it's Charles? It does seem likely he used to live in Kate's house...

Now for Genesis. It was really cool to play through the original Eight Pages revamped. And a lot more satisfying. The Eight Pages just feels like a chore because it's so slow, so goddamn ridiculously hard and the ground is so flat. Every time I hear those same slowass footstep sounds again as I slowly approach the abandoned hospital, it just seems like "back to work" instead of playing a game again. And I play it again and again because I can't damn well beat it, not because it's fun. Whereas this new version was actually possible to complete while still feeling challenging BLASPHEMY!

About the ending of the level:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"I have plans for you, Kate" so this is canon. I think it's referring to that letter from CR to Kate (can't remember which) where he mentions he found her in the park with a broken camera and a bunch of pages. But what plans? It really does seem to imply more than just following her around. It makes it sound like he did want her to end up as Growly.

So more recently I'm now leaning in favour of Growly being Kate, not Charles. Not only because of Genesis but because in the end, it's much more interesting to feel that Lauren was being chased by her childhood friend gone mad instead of some random dude she's never met.

Still I do have to wonder how Charles ties into all this. I like the idea that he was the one who stopped her jumping out the window but where did he go after that? Did Slendy decide Kate was a better minion than him and banish him to help out with the hidden level?

Also for anyone who does think Kate made it through that window, please do explain to me how she could have done so without suffering serious injury. I just don't get how she could get up a mountain after falling one floor.
