So, if it is in Toronto, do we have anyone planning to be in the area this weekend?

I'm from Toronto but I'll be at a friend's cottage about 2-3 hours North of the city all weekend when it happens. I can definitely make a drive down if I'm needed, but if anyone (I'm looking at you, Bruce) happens to be closer I'd say you should go for it. (little bummed I'm not in town for it though Sad I was all stoked for the Toronto one)

As for the clue, all the ideas I've had have been dead ends (it's been 46 years since the Leafs won the Stanley Cup, There was a story that the song "Fifty Mission Cap" by the Tragically Hip was based on where a player from the leafs went missing after wining the cup with the team several years in a row, and then when they found his body 11 years later, they started wining the cup again for several years after a slump for those 11 years, but he was number 5, not 53. I don't even think Jersey numbers went past the 20s until the late 70s or the early 80s, so 53 seems unlikely to be a jersey from the original 6 era)

I don't know if this is the missing 53 we're looking for, but It's a thought...

Quote:
The Love Bug (1969)
In the original film The Love Bug, the original racing stripes differ from those in later movies; the stripes do not cover the valances or louvers of the car and the blue is a lighter shade. Also, Herbie features color-keyed running boards, while in later films the running boards are standard black.[5]
During the film, depending on the scene, the wheels change from standard VW wheels (although fitted with plain hubcaps with no VW logo) to specially widened wheels on the racing Herbies. During one scene (when Tennessee is hanging out of the window), the "53" logo (a.k.a. "gumball") on the passenger-side door is missing.

Maybe we're mishearing it (the '53') When I slow it down I hear "the missing city -?- makes it number 3" I almost want to say the missing word is 'team' but I'm not sure.

Anyone else want to take a stab at cleaning up the audio?

It could be. I will admit I was suffering from a migraine when I made the transcription so I could be hearing it wrong. But I can't tell from the recording we already have.

BTW Asked the Mechanic a question just to see if I could get anything else out of him...

tenshiakui asked: Is there anything about yourself you'd like to share with us? I feel like we hardly know you, which may very well be the point. But what would you like us to call you?

You can call me The Mechanic. It's not something I've been called in many years, but with all that is happening, it's quite fitting, isn't it? Otherwise, ask, and I may answer, depending on whether or not I believe it will be helpful to you and I, both.

OK, after listening to that one over and over, it definitely doesn't sound like 53 to me any longer. If it is a number, my vote goes to 63 or 73, or maybe even 17 (doesn't sound like an F sound to me, more of an S sound). It might just be me forcing what we know onto it, but it almost sounds like it's saying "City Team"

The sound file may need more work. The simple answer may be just too, well simple.
Best I can do ATM:

But the missing 53 made it number 3. If you are in the (person?) true location, you will find this very simple

I can't hear anything but 53/63, and that's from calling the direct number about 10 times this morning (yay work paying for long distance). I'lll farm the question out to my Toronto and Maple Leafs peoples and see if that get \s me anything.

And if Bruce or anyone else can't make it to the drop on Saturday (assuming we keep the same sched, I can head down there. Give me a reason to go visit some friends Smile (though I'll need at least 2 days notice, so if anyone else wants to go grab it make sure to make your intentions known)

ok i'm back. took some time away after the drop.

i have to say SUPER COOL hearing my SN in that sound clip.

so to me it sounds like she's saying
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"that's 5 of 6 but the missing city may make it number 3."

but i have no idea what that means.

EDIT: the only thing i noticed is that only 2 of the listed cities are on the map of future locations. and Toronto would make it 3.

I believe I could make a trip to TO on Saturday... not sure on the reference though (53/63/etc). Checking out the clue/message...

ETA: Does seem like NHL rivalries... the 'original six' includes those cities mentioned, except for the missing Toronto

Which other cities are those? I'm at work and the main website is blocked (though for some reason unfiction and tumblr aren't?), and I don't exactly remember all the map locations

Ok so they said this one had the potential to be solved easy.

Any Toronto or close natives, was that your first thought as well? Or are we just letting the first "solve" pigeon hold us?

Just seems odd to pull out an NHL reference in a game about WWII is all

the listed cities are Detroit, Boston, Montreal, Chicago, and New York.

the only ones of those on the map are Chicago and New York. so if you add Toronto (which is also on the list) it makes 3.
