A warning about the police website

Apparently Andrew does not want anyone trying to gain access to the police log in information.

"AndrewGrayPI: closing remarks, for one thing
AndrewGrayPI: someone mentioned wanting information about the local police officers
AndrewGrayPI: for the purpose of trying to guess their passwords
AndrewGrayPI: I do not want you trying this!"

SIGH!!! this again... PMs of games do NOT want us hacking their websites as a way to maintain info!!! And if they do want that, they will send an ingame char to help us do so {such as Ed with 7th sons from the Urban Hunt game}. I mean, with ILoveBees, people were trying to hack into dana's voicemail, Aunt's email, as well as generally the ILB website.... and were told not to. It's generally considered in bad taste, and like cheating. IF/WHEN you are supposed to find something out, you will have a means to do so {either by puzzle, hint, or char interaction}. until then, sitback, enjoy the ride, and don't ruin it for the PMs as well as the other players.

I refer to comandment number three of ARGs{located bottom of page HERE]:
Thou Shall Not Brute Force

[EDIT]This was inresponse to a post that got deleted by someone who still insisted he wanted to brute force his way in, and even used the term. [/EDIT]

Please, stop the hacking attempts.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

Do NOT try to hack the websites these pages are hosted on.

1) The PMs are hosting these pages on PAID sites. If an administrator of these hosting sites sees what you're doing, you could be in some serious legal trouble because you are committing a crime. If the hosting places find out the real cause, they could cancel the accounts for the game because of too big of a risk.

2) This is not how you should play the game. If you do succeed, you'll just see everything you're not suppose to.

3) Hacking CAN be part of an ARG, however you'll get clues as to what you should do. For instance, in Urban Hunt, one of the characters made a "hacking tool" that was a flash thing. It wasn't real hacking, but it was hacking in game. We'll know when we should be doing something like that. We'll get a clue.

So I implore you and everyone else, please do not try this again.

But if you were paying attention, he encouraged my idea and even said he'd put in a good word for me.

I have an idea. If someone, (not me) can try and get to know one of the officers, it is possible that their password might be guessed. That's not really "hacking", is it? If one of the officers is dumb enough to let slip info like that, why not?

mantis, the login s off limits. They do not want anyone trying to gain access to the site. We should respect that until we hear otherwise.

It's not that they don't want us to access whatever is behind the login, eventually we need to, that's obvious. What they don't want us doing is attempting to hack into the servers these pages are hosted on. The login is purely in-game, but we have to get some other information that will clue us into the actual login -- if not the login/password itself.

I think Andrew is warning us against the guessing because the police are monitoring the logs of the site and will go after people who are "hacking". Exactly what any real police department would do. Remember, he's a character and doesn't know this is a game.
