Mechanic concurs with location

New question answered by the Mechanic:

heathian asked: Decoding and interpretation of the recent Fragment 05 clues suggest the location of the drop may be in Franklin D. Roosevelt Park in Philadelphia PA, near the Naval Yard. Do you concur?

Mechanic: That sounds like the most likely scenario, based on what we currently know.

In the future, it might be helpful for us to remember to query the Mechanic when we find ourselves with no clear answers.

OK, so I have been going back and reading everything so I can work on the wiki for the last couple days and I hit a detail that is bugging me. It's in the most recent after action report audio file, the April 26th one. It's the last line that I'm curious about:

Quote:
There's a photo of a female on the desk. There's a message on the back… It's hard to make out in this light… 'To my beloved sister. Love always and forever, Anika'

For context, the Operative is reporting from the Mathematician's 'office' where he's found this note, which is signed by Anika. My issue is that it's addressed to her sister, where as I've been working under the assumption that Mathematician was a man. I don't see any sign of another sister in any of the notes he/she has written so far, so either there is a new mystery character upon us, I'm crazy and the way that note is addressed makes sense, or we're wrong about his gender.

I noticed that before as well Sinewave and thought maybe the Mathematician was a woman, until I got a good look at the one file that was found that had his gender clearly listed as M.

So yeah it's an unanswered question thus far.

im still new to the Blackhollow project and ARGs in general, but I'll still put in my 2 cents

correct me if Im wrong but I believe alternate realities were brought up at one point; and if that's true then the Mathematician could be female in one history and male in another, like the Lutece Twins

A little late but proper props to arthurdent who wrote, in part, way back on page 43-

I will make the case for Philadelphia:

"white rabbits" may refer to the song by Jefferson Airplane, which was formed in San Francisco in 1965, but extrapolating further, it could refer to Thomas Jefferson, who helped write the Declaration Of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776.

"elephants" may refer to the baseball team Athletics, currently playing in Oakland in 2013 (not San Francisco), but called the "white elephant" in 1902 while playing in Philadelphia, where they were still playing in 1943.

"peeled" (or "pealed") could refer to the ringing of the Liberty Bell, which is in Philadelphia.

Until the Connie Mack card pointed to Philly, a case could have been made for almost any city on the list. I think the clue was purposefully vague to fill in some time due to the skipped drop city, which may have been caused by problems with the drop-ee. Scheduling that many drop agents must be a bitch!
Good luck and have fun to the pick-up agent(s) Smile

We know the Mechanic is a man from his OSS ID badge.
We know the Operative is a man from the tapes.
The phone recordings are an English woman. The artist maybe?

Back to my old topic. Help me figure out which one is the Mechanic. History might have been changed on their background info or we might be being lied to, (this is the OSS after all) but you can't change your looks. Which one matches the OSS ID?
James Chadwick (J.C.) William George Penney ID_badge The Mechanic's OSS ID badge.

I do not see that the Mechanic necessarily has to be an identifiable figure in history.

Agreed... and kudos to MrToasty for his additional work in identifying the drop site.

Philadelphia fragment information - the Mechanic

Recently posted:

New information has just come through the QFDA. As always, stay safe when picking up the fragment.

At the intersection of a line south of S 20th St and west of the fountain, three benches reside. Knowing the number 7 will do you well. Sit on the bench to take a breath, then locate the fountain within the lake. With that in your sight, turn around, cross the street, and move directly towards the fence. There, a five-fingered tree resides along the fence. Behind two coincidentally well-place logs, the fragment rests, waiting for your arrival. Aside from preventing a time-related calamity, watch out for flying objects.

This may be the fountain referred to. It is in Meadow Lake with the Gazebo in the background.

West of Meadow Lake there is a path (maybe where the benches are) and then a road (as mentioned) and then a fence that separates the area from a golf course to the west. (My interpretation from far far away)

Unless someone else was planning on making the trek, I can head out there tomorrow. Seems to be somewhat close to one of my jogging routes.

In a view from Bing Maps there appear to be 3 picnic tables between the path and the road. I don't know whether they may be considered benches or not.

7th Hole is just just south of 20th street but its a ways from the fountain? I think heathian has the spot.
