I'm gonna go ahead and say that the reason TO and Alex's intentions are so ambiguous is because they have no real way to communicate.
Maybe the reason that so much here is so ambiguous is because of the breakdown in communication. So far as we've seen TO has no face, and therefore no way to communicate as we do. Alex keeps trying to do what TO does, but can't because he doesn't understand what he's trying to make him do. That explains A TON of things that happen here. For instance why TO may know where Jay is but Alex doesn't. Maybe TO can only communicate with Alex much in the way that TTA communicates with Jay/us....Has a lot of interesting implications.

The idea of Alex spending days or even weeks waiting in Jessica's house for her is really fucking creepy.

I wouldn't put it past him. How many days did he spend in Tim's attic?

To me, honestly, for a group of people that tried to popularize the character, they somehow turned The Operator into a minor character at best in the Marble Hornets Story. I'm sort of disappointed really. The only thing that keeps me going in this series is the story between Jay, Alex and Tim.

There wouldn't BE a story between Jay, Alex and Tim if not for The Operator, though.
TO is the root cause of the entire story. The whole thing is about the effect that the presence of The Operator has had on these otherwise ordinary people. If not for him, everyone would have lived normal lives and none of the events of the series would have happened in the first place.

Huh, that's rather intresting. I've never actually ever really thought about how Alex and The Operator communicated before. *Feels stupid*

I've thought for a while, due to Alex's seemingly random actions, that this is the case.

I really need to stop reading crazy theories before bed. Every nightmare I had last night involved someone in my house, waiting for me.

Is it weird that I always thought the operator was just bored? I always thought that was much creepier.

Not really, he's got no face and you've got to feel in the blanks somehow Smile

*Geek girl in the fedora is dressed in her Tim pjyamas. It has been the end of a very, very long day. She places her fedora next to her computer on the desk next to her bed and switches off the light and get's into bed*

*She turns off the light*

*Unbestknown to her, her web cam is still on.*

* Moments past. Nothing.

Then, The Operator is there. Just there. He stands placid, unmoving, right at the corner of her bed.

Alex walks into the bedroom.

Alex: Is she...is it time?

*The Operator merely stands, placid, unmoving.*

Alex:

I'll get ready.

Sweet dreams Smile

As far as communication goes, entry 65 shows us that the operator can communicate with his victims. Tim's "get out of my head, what do you want, WHAT DO YOU WANT!" implies the operator is capable of getting inside his head

Also on one of Alex's drawings, it says "talks to me" so there's more proof he can communicate

But how coherent is this communication? It doesn't look like anyone enjoys it "talking" to them.

Yeah I understand that he's the root cause, but he's not all that important in the grand scheme of things. This story was started because of him, but now the story has evolved into the Jay/Alex/Tim conspiracy hour. He's more or less just there to provide a scare factor. Which overtime, resulted in diminishing returns sadly. Oh no, there's The Operator, what's he gonna do this time? Whoop, he's just standing there getting our characters sick or teleporting them to... only god knows where. Yeah sure, I react when he's on screen, but mostly cause I have the sound almost the way up just before the loud sudden "we're supposed to be scared now" noises flare up.

I'm not saying he's not a interesting of a character, cause he is. It's just he doesn't really do much of anything. I'm not expecting him to fight, or dance, or convey the ultimate answer to the ultimate question or anything like that. I don't want him to be more active other than just standing there. But it's the lack of interaction with him which makes him largely un-important. Yeah sure he appears at critical junctures, but mostly just to clean up or reset everything. Now that I think about it, he sorta reminds me of a janitor. Yes, The Operator is now a ghost janitor. I just made him that much less scary. Your welcome. Razz

If anything, TTA replies are much scarier than whats going on in the Entries.

Yeah, I think there is some kind of "communicative" contact, but not actual communication?

I'm sure its more like post-hypnotic suggestions to their subconscious. He doesn't really talk to him outright, But Alex/Tim get the general idea of whatever he's saying. Actually, communication through the subconscious would explain the dreams that occur due to The Operator's. involvement. The dreams are just sort of a by-product of that communication.
